So anyone get Mechassault 2 yet?

I'll admit I never was able to get into the original. Just felt too shallow honestly, but the Conquest online mode in part 2 is making that $40 price at Fry's look very tempting.

Anyone get it yet?

I'll be picking it up tomorrow morning, as I don't get off until 9 tonight and Gamestop closes at 9.

I'm definitely looking forward to Conquest mode though, hopefully it's close to the fun I had with Multiplayer Battletech: 3025 that EA ran a few years back, and then canned. :(

One dude has been posting impressions on IGN. He says the online is "slower" than in the first one and the maps are pretty big.

One dude's impressions:

meeeeeeeeeh, it's nothing special.

Conquest is already over-run with jerks. Everyone's talking mad **** and it's already not fun. The idea is cool but its flawed because everyone on Live sucks (not in game skill, just in general). Everyone is ALREADY bitching about not being able to pick your mech, which I was expecting because like I said, people suck. And everyone has ALREADY chosen a house, one house (the one I randomly joined ) is already in control of 26% of the damn galaxy

The game is slow, the framerate is ok, and the sensitivity for the aiming is to fast fast (you cant change it)

The houses are supposed to be unbalanced for control at first. It's based off of Battletech lore. That's the reason House Liao only controls 12 percent of the galaxy and Davion and Steiner control 25 percent to start.

I'll wait for more reviews throughout the night, hopefully still pick it up tomorrow.

Crap, I should have checked Fry's. I picked it up at Gamestop this morning. Do you know if Gamestop has any sort of pricematch guarantee?

I've just been playing single player. Haven't played online yet. Never bought the first so I figured I should play a bit of the single player to get myself used to the game mechanics. So far so good.

I ended up giving in....I had it pre-ordered and a bunch of credit at the store. Won't be playing until later tonight. The IGN quote is nice and all, but the reviews that are out there made it seem like it would be worthwhile on LIVE (my only real interest in it).

:lol Caved in again, bitch. You're so weak.

Yeah, so I snagged this during lunch today. I'll probably be on later tonight.

I was thinking about picking it up, just to have another Live game to play...But seriously, no matter how man Live games I have, I don't think I'll be able to pull myself away from Halo 2. Every night, Xbox Live, 10-2.

haha, I so know your consumer habits, bitch.

See you on there later.

If someone could get away from online long enough to let us know how the single player campaign looks....it would be appreciated.

You'll be back to RTCW before the night is over!

I'm awaiting more impressions on the conquest mode before picking this up.

Leaving now to go pick it up; didn't pre-order this one, but don't expect to have any trouble getting a copy. I'm sure most people are still broke from Xmas anyway.

Picked it up an hour or so ago and played a few levels (2-3) of single player. So far it's definitely better than the single player in the first at the same point in the game graphically and funwise.

Mech jacking is particularly cool I'm gonna have loads of fun with that feature online :lol. The whole feel of the mechs is a lot better this time around, much more weighty, even the light mechs... which makes it more realistic.

The updated visuals rock, especially the mech explosions. There's a very cool effect now where the surrounding area visually gets sucked into the core of the explosion (think mini black hole effect)... then boom! Also, the flamethrower is actually a flamethrower this time around heh. In motion it looks very good, but you can't light stuff on fire. While I haven't tried it on people yet (tee hee) you can't ignite trees so most hope is lost.

The addition of the tank, battle armor and the like give a lot of variation to the battles this time around. I can't wait to head online to take advantage of these changes, but that'll have to wait till I'm through with single player. ;)

So far the music is pretty good. I hate to compare it to Halo 2, but you can't play MA2 and not get a Halo 2 vibe from the music. At one point I swore I heard the melody from one of the Halo 2 levels. :lol

Right now the main problems I have with the game are the controls.
1- There is no control customization. (wtf?)
2- In MA1 the x/y/b buttons were used to control weapon selection which was a much better alternative to using L to cycle. With that feature you could do various weapons combos. In MA2 the face button weapon selection has been removed and you're forced to used the cycle method.
3- MA1 players will often find themselves jumping out of there mech/armor/tanks accidentally at first because of problem #2.

I'm definitely looking forward to Conquest mode though, hopefully it's close to the fun I had with Multiplayer Battletech: 3025 that EA ran a few years back, and then canned. :(
I was all over Mutiplayer Battletech Solaris back in the days... I loved that game *sob*.

One thing I wished they carried over from that to both MA1&2 was the mechdamage. Because of that feature there was a lot more strategy to the battles in Battletech compared to MechAssaut. You have readouts of the targeted mechs which gave you weapon stats, armor ratings etc. I remember my clan having printouts of mechs, armor ratings, weapon locations, strategies etc

For example, if most of the heavy hitting weapons were located on the left shoulder/arm of you enemy you could blow off the whole left side of his mech and send him on the defensive. You could even blow off a leg or two and leave him stranded on the battlefield while you run around his soon to be corpse. :lol Then you could trash talk him and pelt him with weak weapons until either he ejected from the mech or you decided to end his pain. :)

Mechs also had weak spots back then, located usually in the small of the back or back of the head. One good alpha strike and they were done for. Those were the days... I miss strategy. :(

Get on Conquest mode! I need impressions! :D
Don't tell me what to do damnit! :p

But uh.. I'm playing some NFL Street 2 (picked that up as well), so even if I do decide to head online it wouldn't be anytime soon. :(

i got the game and it is really good online, i like the fact that you cant choose your mechs before battle. This keeps the playing field fairly equal. Im having alot of fun so far.

Didn't play online last night, but messed around briefly in single player and found that you can pkay multiplayer by yourself; certain modes have bots and other just let you run around in the empty maps.

Definitely a game worth checking out. :D

Conquest is alot of fun. The fact that the games have a purpose other then padding your individual stats makes it realy cool. Once this game gets going t seems like it would be a great clan game. However it can be kind of a pain to get a game going because there is not always enough people from a house to play a game.

I didn't like MA1 very much howver MA2 is a blast and it seems like it will have alot of staying power. The fact that you can't choose from any mech you want seems to bother people. I think it's a great idea though it forces you to actualy be a team and and to play role your role in the team.

Anyways great game so far.

T'was the same as the first one, nothing new there.

Anyhow, I finished singleplayer. It should only take around 5-6 hours, relatively short as expected since online seems to be the focus of this one. I'll head online later tonight and check out the online mode.

It's definitely better than the first as it actually has a story this time around. Graphics, lighting, music and visual effects are all top notch and swamps and jungles are added to the updated city/icy tundra/desert formula from the first.

The addition of actual characters now provides a lot of atmosphere. You don't really end up caring about any of them, but it's nice to have a reason why you're blowing stuff up. The missions are varied ranging from:

-Straight up mech combat.
-Stealing mechs to supply yourself + allies.
-Defending/rescuing friendlies.
-On foot mission destroying key enemy targets via planted explosives.
-Stealth missions via Battlearmor.
-Piloting VTOL aircraft.

Within those missions you pilot a variety of mechs, tanks, multiple types of turrets, standalone battle armor etc. I haven't used all the mechs yet, my beloved Timberwolf is mia from singleplayer. So I'll have to head online and pray to the mech gods that it turns up on a map I'm playing on since you no longer select mechs but are tossed into the map on foot resulting in a mad dash to grab a mech/VTOL/turret etc.

On a side note I laughed my ass off the first time I took down a Madcat on foot with planted explosives. :lol... only to turn around and see another one step from behind a building and fire four level 3 missiles into my chest. :/

MA1 singleplayer = 6-7
MA2 singleplayer = 8.5

Can anyone tell me if this game has Live coop, so that a buddy and I could play on Live at the same time via splitscreen? I've looked in every review and feature list I can find and it doesn't say.
