So, can we all agree that Diner's Drive ins and Dives is the best show on the Food N?

Throwdown always kind of seemed like a dickish show to me. "Oh, Food Network is here to do a special about you... NOPE. Bobby Flay is actually here to prove he's a better cook than you."

Beat Bobby Flay is better, since it's people lining up to take him on. It's dickish to Flay, but Flay's good natured about it, so it's cool. And you get the Who's Who of Food Network, which is kind of fun.
Beat Bobby Flay would be a great show if it was more in the vein of Bully Beatdown and Jason Miller or some other MMA guy came on to beat the shit out of Bobby Flay on behalf of the people he humiliated on Throwdown.

DDD is a good background show, usually when we're winding down for the night we turn it on if there isn't anything else. It seems to be on all the time during weekday evenings.

My favorite FN show right now is probably Cutthroat Kitchen, yeah it's a Chopped/Iron Chef ripoff like 90% of what Food Network airs now, but it's pretty funny. It desperately needs a refined judging system though, it can be painful at times to witness as is.

I wish Iron Chef would be good again, hell it seems like everyone on the network is an Iron Chef now, it doesn't mean anything anymore.

Worst show is hands down Mystery Diners. Blatantly fake restaurant stings. One episode had them bring in the "Mystery Diners Spirit Medium" to communicate with ghosts in a restaurant, and they would "interfere" with the camera equipment.

LOL

A show like that would be an instant hit on the Food Network. It's not like its so much different from what reality based food shows the Food Network shows currently.

Yes. It's FN Lite though; standard cooking shows in the morning/afternoon but at night it's the typical kind of garbage you'd see on Food Network. They also run a lot of reruns and old FN shows.

Also re:Iron Chef
The original Iron Chef was the GOAT. Iron Chef America is what you get when you take all the soul out of it.

It's a shame the new Iron Chef Japanese series didn't do well, because it was better than ICA.

Now yea the original Iron Chef was the best show ever. Then they tried that short lived one on like UPN back in the days with Shatner as the Chairman. Then they retooled and went Iron Chef America on food network and it just really lacks any of the soul the Japanese one had. Probably doesn't help that their chefs have no charm.

Just once I want to see him dislike something he eats. Better yet, I'd like to see one of the chefs call him out for being a super unfunny douche.

He obviously doesn't like soul food. He ate a pork ear sandwich and didn't like it as well as pig feet. He's also was scared to eat chitterlings and fried testicles (not soul food but called calf fries or something like that). He also said he doesn't like eggs. He won't say something is bad to him but it's obvious.

It can be entertaining, but after a while you'll realize that he just says everything is good.

I don't really understand this criticism. What do people expect him to do? If he was honest about everything then no restaurant would ever agree to be on the show. Restaurants get free publicity, Guy gets fodder for his show, everyone wins.

This is actually my problem nowadays with Restaurant Impossible, and to a lesser extent, Kitchen Nightmares. Robert/Gordon is going to show up, dislike the food, dislike the decor, dislike the staff, there will probably be some resistance, then an emotional breakthrough, then everyone will be happy and on their way to success.

It's less formulaic with KN because Gordon is more abrasive, and he has actually quit before, but it's still kind of meh.

Guy is godawful, fuck that asshole.

Only good ones are Good Eats with Alton Brown and the one with Giada, since Italian food is amazing and she's hot as fuck.

I hate everything about the show but the food. So it's a good thing that they show the food quite a bit. If only there was a way to mute only Guy and the crappy music that plays.

I just don't get the hate; what did Guy do to you guys? He's a bit out there, but nothing we should judge him for.

Thanks, I'll for it.

I actually like MD - even though it's blatantly staged sometimes.

You joking OP?

Absolutely not.

do they still have new eps of Unwrapped? That was my jam

But yeah, I love DD&D. Nothing better than torturing yourself by watching delicious foods from restaurants that you'll probably never get to eat at.

Triple D is awesome. American Iron Chef has grown on me. I typically hate season based elimination competition shows but I enjoy Next Food Network & Great Food Truck Race upon occasion. Of course Good Eats.

No other food personality eats more and says less. Seriously, when he samples dishes he practically eats the entire thing. And think about how many takes they do.

"NICE CRUNCH THERE FROM THAT HOMEMADE PICKLE"

Also I haven't tried, but I bet Google images does a pretty good impersonation of his wardrobe if you search for "douchebag shirt."

I like that he eats - that's how food is enjoyed lol. The show is very lighthearted, don't get all of the critical insults.

Mystery Diners is not just staged, it's done with actors. People have found listings for restaurant workers on imdb who are actually working actors with different names. There's a disclaimer at the end of the show which flashes by.

I'm going to slowly remove it from my DVR :(. I knew it was staged, but hearing that makes it harder to feign ignorance.

There was an episode about R and O's restaurant where the workers were all family and a waitress named Dee Dee harassed all new non-family workers and rubbed a sandwich on her cleavage when a customer was difficult......
.....and here's her imdb listing as Deenie Castleberry! http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1220429/?ref_=fn_al_nm_9

All better shows with more likable hosts than Guy Fieri.

Dont forget chopped. That's pretty much all they show on the Food Network nowadays. That and reruns of Iron Chef.

Also, Giada <3

ah, I see the joke has been made already.

Lately I find myself rarely watching Food Network and spending the majority of my time watching Cooking Channel instead. Before it was just Unique Eats and Unique Sweets, Man Fire Food and Eat St. Now watching more of My Grandmother's Ravioli, Korean Food Made Simple and Spice Goddess.

Also, my friend Jaynelle was featured on the Oakland episode of "Cooking: Road Trip" (10:42 in the video under Season 2 episodes)

The whole food network is a bunch of bullshit these days. I want to see people cook food not fake reality shows and this redneck eat carnitas fries every episode. The cooking channel has basically turned into MTV2.

EDIT: word up on Cooking Channel. It's much better than the Food Network if you're actually interested in cooking food or restaurants that aren't hole in the walls.
