So, can we all agree that Diner's Drive ins and Dives is the best show on the Food N?

My god I hope you are joking. It is the very downfall of the food network. I remember when it used to just be cooking shows, and now it's just fat dudes going around eating stuff. I'd say, not only is it the worst show on the Food Network, but maybe a close contender for the worst show on television. And Guy is by far the biggest tool on TV this side of Fox News.

Maybe I'm just too damn old, but I wish the Food Network actually still had cooking shows. Now it's just cooking contests and gluttony, and that's not what that channel used to be in it's prime.

I've learned a lot from some of the contest shows, and I would have never watched a traditional cooking show, I can get that on youtube though

real talk i can do a mean guy fieri impression

I didn't try too hard

You've convinced me.

You've convinced me.

Haha. Not trying to convince anyoneof anything. Just stating my frustrations. Hell, I never thought iI'd say this, but I miss Emril.

I get that shows like Chopped or DDD do have shots where they show people cooking, but I feel like they don't really try to teach you these recipes in detail like cooking shows used to. The Food Network taught me a lot about cooking when I was a younger man, but I don't think it could possibly have the same impact on kids nowadays. It's like FN tries to get you more excited about going out to eat than cooking at home. I watch DDD and I just want to go out for pizza and tacos instead of making an amazing meal like Yan would teach you.

But... she's so friendly and...

I probably should've seen it, considering how rough the TV business is.
I don't know how much stock I'd take in her sleeping her way in to TV. She is the daughter (or granddaughter) of Dino DeLaurentis. That type of nepotism will get you far in Hollywood.

EDIT: I see that was already discussed. Carry on.

I always get a kick out of watching Giada because she tries to always make the names
Of things (Italian or not) sound Italian. Pronunciation be damned. She can straight up sound like Mario.

"Darling~! Let's move to the UK~! Some Gaffer has a room for us there, and we can listen to the accents on the TV from 4PM to 9PM!"

Sounds like a viable plan.

The thing is, as an American looking to relocate to the UK, the most difficult part is getting set up over there. I mean, without having a significant amount of money built up there's not much to get going with, and it's very difficult to look for a job in the UK when sitting over here in the US.

And, we wouldn't need to watch TV to hear accents.
We could just spy on you while you're having conversations >.>

Oh man, I'm watching the latest Cutthroat Kitchen, and it is GREAT.

It's all of the Judges competing for Charity. It's Jet Tila vs. Antonia Lofasa vs. Simon Majumdar vs. Geoffery Zakarian (I have probably murdered all of the spellings)

Anyway, so many giffable moments.

That episode was great.

Current food network mostly sucks.

Good Eats was its best show.

Really, Mario Batalli carried that team. And you're just not beating him on Italian dishes. Ain't happenin.
We ate at his restaurant in the Venetian. It was pretty amazing, the wine list was insalely long, hundreds.

The wife and I actually love the next food network star.

Dvr it every year. Never have watched any winners shows though.

Something about amateur chefs competing to plate steak tartare out of 2 ingredients in 30 minutes never gets old.

Loved the sandwich guy from a few years ago. Good stuff.

Did Justin Warner ever actually get a show? I've seen him on a handful of Food Network things, (Beat Bobby Flay most recently,) but I don't think I ever saw his show. My wife and I wonder aloud about his show every time he shows up on something else.

I think he did a pilot or one hour show along the lines of "rebel eats" but has no actual show....

I liked the kid, thought he had amazing food range and imagination.

Fame and cooking are fickle I guess.

Bobby Flay....the poor thing. I can't remember, but I think he probably tried to stuff cilantro and pablano peppers into every dish.

Speaking of terrible shows, Bobby Flay's throwdown

Giada needed the help of Michael symon or emril himself to beat Rachel and Mario.

No OP.

In my opinion, Master Chef is the best show on the network so far. Cutthroat Kitchen follows next. For food adventure shows, I stick to the travel channel for Anthony Bourdain (although now on CNN) and Man vs Food.

My personal favorite food show is Bar Rescue on Spike. So much respect for Jon Taffer.

ready set cook was my joint back in the day

SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE'S DOING
or the producers do
.

One day, my sweet. One day...

But yeah, love the show format, hate Guy. Replace him with Anthony Bourdain or Alton Brown or something. Or just merge it with its more timid Canadian counterpart "You Gotta Eat Here".

Nowadays it seems as though it's more about the personalities than the food. I miss the old shows like Cooking Live which was more about the food and interacting with the audience with their live phone in segments. The host, Sara Moulton, had an awesome dorky mom charm but nowadays would likely not be photogenic enough to be a host on todays Food Network.

The show is great, you guys are so jaded.

I've been to a number of places they have recommended and they don't fail to deliver. The show isn't about Guy, it's about the locations.

Those still air. I could never stand the dude himself, go figure since I don't mind Guy Fieri.

In my opinion, Master Chef

If you can understand spanish, then I suggest you watch the Spain edition of Master Chef. It is easily the most incredibly produced cooking show I've ever seen in my life. The whole first series is on youtube, so maybe subtitles are available.

It plays up the high cuisine part and what it takes to make it as a chef, while it downplays the reality aspect. Also the production values are through the roof with each episode clocking in at like an hour and a half long.

Not to mention the hosts are also hilariously fun.

Speaking of terrible shows, Bobby Flay's throwdown

Throwdown always kind of seemed like a dickish show to me. "Oh, Food Network is here to do a special about you... NOPE. Bobby Flay is actually here to prove he's a better cook than you."

Beat Bobby Flay is better, since it's people lining up to take him on. It's dickish to Flay, but Flay's good natured about it, so it's cool. And you get the Who's Who of Food Network, which is kind of fun.

In my opinion, Master Chef is the best show on the network so far.

Master Chef isn't on Food Network. Although I will agree that it is the best long-term cooking competition show. Cutthroat Kitchen is the best short-term cooking competition. Food Network Star is great, but in my mind it's a totally different animal.

My wife and I were talking though that we really want to see an International Master Chef, with a group of chefs from all the different international versions.

They recently went to a filipino rest. in my old hometown in Hawaii. Disappointed they didn't showcase the best dish, chocolate meat (pork blood stew)

Best shows are Chopped, Eat Street and Triple D sometimes. But I find "You gotta eat here" better. I think the food network needs an "Anthony Bordain" type of personality for the long term. Not sure about the American programming but Michael Smith is great too. Haven't seen much Chuck's Day off recently and I miss sweet genius too :(

My sister in law is a make up artist on a few Food Network shows, even the "cooking game shows" aren't 100% real. On Iron Chef for example they all outline what they are doing before they secret ingredient is revealed. So all the scrambling during the show and outlining the game plan is for show.

Also Guy Fieri and Bobby Flay hate each other.

Bobby Flay is a great chef and I love how he represents Mexican food well and Hispanic food well, but he's always had an ego I can't help but feel anytime he's on camera.

Guy is godawful, fuck that asshole.

Only good ones are Good Eats with Alton Brown and the one with Giada, since Italian food is amazing and she's hot as fuck.

It's just a big commercial for obscure restaurants non locals wouldn't know about. Good if you're traveling a lot.

Although the places featured on the show are generally picked on novelty not food quality.

And he's annoying as fuck. Where's that parody video?

I hate everything about the show but the food. So it's a good thing that they show the food quite a bit. If only there was a way to mute only Guy and the crappy music that plays.

I always mean to check it out but keep forgetting. Is it on Comcast?

Yes. It's FN Lite though; standard cooking shows in the morning/afternoon but at night it's the typical kind of garbage you'd see on Food Network. They also run a lot of reruns and old FN shows.

Also re:Iron Chef
The original Iron Chef was the GOAT. Iron Chef America is what you get when you take all the soul out of it.

It's a shame the new Iron Chef Japanese series didn't do well, because it was better than ICA.
