So how bad is the Switch stock situation?

If you select global express shipping it should give you a guaranteed date of early next week (unless their stock is running out?)

I just went back and checked and this time it did says March 14-15th so I guess i'll bite the bullet and give it a try. Hopefully I can find an AC adapter.

There's no region lock, and it's an EU Switch so everything will be available in English. The biggest concern would be having some way to power the console, which would require either a universal power adapter or an AC adapter (both of which would have to be purchased separately). The only other change is that the EU version has a 2 year warranty rather than a 1 year warranty for NA, but it also means you would have to deal with shipping to EU for repair if you need it.

You don't need a power transformer (i.e. to convert 220v to 110v), you only need a cheap adapter made of plastic and metal just to make the plug fit in your wall/powerstrip sockets.

All Switch AC adapters are multi-voltage and work anywhere in the world as long as you can plug them in.

Getting a local AC adapter is more convenient though. I'm in the Middle East and we have same plugs as Europe. I got my Switch from Japan (which uses same plugs as America), so I ordered a Nintendo AC adapter from Amazon.es to use on my Switch in portable mode (so that I don't need to deal with an additional plug adapter), and I'll keep the AC adapter that came with the console connected to the Dock all the time, since it will be out of the way and I won't be moving it doesn't matter. Best of both worlds.

awesome, great info. I think I might jump on the amazon.es stock.

edit: if I buy the nintendo AC adapter for 110v (eventually) I can just swap it easily right? Then it's 1:1 with a US unit.

If there were to be any "blame" (for lack of a better term) placed upon an entity, who would it be. Is it just a lack of patience on us or is it squarely Nintendo and stores allowing for bulk purchases that are being scooped up for resale. Its crazy cause here i am in a situation where for a amount extra i deem as justifiable given the situation of unavailability and lack of waiting i will possibly be purchasing a console.

Yes. Also see the edit of my previous post. Getting a second AC adapter has its benefits if you plan on using your Switch in both portable and docked, so you won't need to keep taking out and reconnecting the same AC adapter every time.

ah good point! What plug type comes with the unit from amazon.es, is it Type-F?

I have power adapters for several regions already and also purchased the AC adapter (though I got mine from US Amazon). Thanks for the explanation.

I'm not sure which do you mean by "power adapters"... If it's something like this:

Explorer-110-Power-Supply-plug.jpg

Then yeah, that's what you need. But if you mean a step-down converter that takes 220v and outputs 110v:

not recommended with Switch said:
I wouldn't recommend it. Because it's not needed and might make the whole thing less efficient and produce more heat and possibly damage the official AC adapter or the Switch.

AC adapters are plentiful over here (US). So you'd likely be out $30 extra for one.

edit - hmm.. are you sure all switch adapters are 110/220v? wall warts I thought usually weren't. I could be wrong though.

I guess I'm considering plug adapters when I say power adapters, for other solutions (such as yours) I would use the term 'converter' or 'transformer' as appropriate. It's a confusing terminology for people not familiar with it, so thanks for the clarification as I'm sure it will be helpful to folks considering an international purchase.

yup! for anyone that did this amazon.es deal, look for a Type-B adapter - that'll accept anything and will work in the US.

edit: this is a good brand but you can prob find cheaper:

Yes I'm sure. We knew this since the FCC filing for the Switch long before the system launched, and also there was a thread (also before launch) here showing high resolution pictures of the packaging for various Switch accessories and the AC adapter said it's multi-voltage.

I received my official AC adapter from Amazon Spain today, and even though it doesn't say so on the outside of the box. The documentation inside and the wall wart itself says it's 100-240v.

Amazon.es is enticing... The only thing I'm concerned about is getting customer support and repair, god forbid it's needed.

I believe with all Amazon worldwide, if you have a problem/defect with the product within 30 days of receiving it, you can return it and they will pay for shipping.

Edit: Took a picture of the documentation that came with the AC adapter, and highlighted two lines:

If it's still up by Friday I'll probably go for it. I don't know if I really buy the "no more until April" line from retailers, but if it's true I don't want to wait that long.

Wow, I'm impressed.

If it's any consolation, Zelda isn't that great*.

*Means it's a top 5 game of all time. Who knew climbing rocks and cooking was so much fun?

Ok so just so I am clear and don't burn my house down I could simply just buy one of those adapters to make it work in the US plugs or I could buy the US AC adapter and that will work with the console no problem either?

Yes. The only difference between the EU and the US AC adapter is the shape of the plug.

So when do people think it'll be relatively easy to order a Switch online or just walk into a store and easily get one? A couple weeks? A month? 2 months?

I mean, I'm sort of tempted to get a Switch for Zelda but I'm very much in that impulse buy stage right now since I think Zelda would be about the only big Nintendo game I'd be real hyped for. If they're not available for too much longer I'll probably get my hype back in check and just pass on getting a Switch...

I feel like they will be readily available within a couple of weeks as long as Nintendo continues to send stock.

Which side of Atlanta are you looking? I can look where I am if you are on the opposite side.

I'm in East Atlanta, but I've been looking up to an hour outside Atlanta through phone calls and online searches. Nothing. I don't have a car right now so going and looking myself isn't really an option.

Not sure if the amazon.es thing is working out. I got the order and everything, but now it's giving me errors when trying to view my order. I think they must have cancelled it.

Pretty dire here in SW Ontario Canada. Local classifieds has people selling them from 6-700 dollars for the console alone.

Somebody in the comments at http://www.nowinstock.net/videogaming/consoles/nintendoswitch/ said that's a normal part of the process, so hopefully it doesn't mean anything dire.

Edit: They might be hitting back order numbers, worst case scenario should be you just wait for back order delivery date (it won't charge til it ships) and cancel if you find something better before then? It sounds like the site itself might just be having issues atm.

My order was displaying perfectly as of an hour ago, now it's doing the error thing. Oh well.

Same here.

Went through successfully, but now it has just disappeared from my orders.

It doesn't even show up under cancelled orders. =C

Amazon order stuff is broken in general right now - check your regular accounts, you can't see orders there either. Lots of complaints about it from across the US over the past 10 minutes.

How can Nintendo suck this much when it comes to stocking enough shit in stores? They were even having a hard time keeping enough stock of games!

I'm in the market for a switch but haven't been able to get one. Lord knows ppl less hardcore than me will forget about it and never buy it later.

Yeah, I was wondering about that.

So the order may still be there?

Wonder if I can get Amazon to give me some free credit towards the purchase. Excellent, Excellent.

Amazon.es just e-mail en espanol to let me know that it could be here in as early as Friday.

We in this, GAFam!

Shoutout to whoever tipped us off about Espana's wealth of Switch gold.

Hell no. People are gonna be clearing out Switch stocks come the holiday season this year. Every kid is gonna want one.

Switch thirst broke Amazon :P

Actually this whole Amazon outtage happened a week or so ago too. It affected a lot of the internet as many companies rely on Amazon's servers for their stuff.

Strange that it would happen again so soon though.
