I can definitely see op buying a ticket for 1500 then ending up homeless on the streets within a week with his mentality

Is it possible to get a sales/marketing/advertising job in Japan assuming you are fluent or am I just wasting my time getting experience in the wrong field? BTW I am almost 30 lived in Japan before and just back in America to get the relevant business experience so I can return there in 3 years or so with a real job.

They won't let us in Europe. :(

Fortress Europe.
I did meet some European chicks over there I would have married though. I had to come back to finish school though :(
You could probably get by most places with just English. Better than in Asia at least

Its the whole job thing. I'm not that bad at picking up languages. I might try to study over there for a masters, who knows. I'm still young.

The cost of living is cheaper.

Japan is very picky about who can get on JET. The EPIK Korea program is easier to get on if you have a degree, they're still picky but it's easier. (What I'm on.) The salary is also nice, I get paid $1500 a month for working 22 hrs a week, my accommodation and flights are paid for. I'm also exempt from tax so I keep my entire wage, it's nice.

You can always hop over to Japan for next to nothing in holiday season.

You need 10 years experience and nothing less. I was hired as a creative director/producer at a Japanese game studio and when I applied for a work visa with my 9 years 358 days experience, immigration told me that I did not meet their requirements. I returned to the UK, worked for 8 days at a friend's company, then went back to Japan with my 10 years + 1 day of experience and reapplied with no fuss what so ever. Quite ridiculous.

Holy shit that could be a movie right there.

The whole plot would be about Vince Vaughn landing his dream job but in order to get it he has to go back to his last job which he hates for 8 days, and his boss knowing full well that this is his plan is trying to make those 8 days the worst days of his life to get him to quit and ruining his chances at getting his dream job forever.

I want to move to europe. Its hard though.

I only know spanish and english so I only have like 3 choices.

Most of the countries speak English and most of them are of Anglo-Saxon languages which means that you could pick it up easier than say, Japanese or Korean.

People are awesome as well.

I advice you take a trip, the longer the better, to S.Korea and Japan. One month on each one if you can afford it, if not go for less time but the point of staying a month+ is to simulate living there. You'll know where to go after that, or you might decide to stay home or go somewhere else entirely after seeing the reality of things.

year 0-1.5

Moved to Japan with only the plan to check it out after finishing my minor in Japanese. Ended up with a job getting paid to drink beer with Japanese women.

year 1.5-8

Moved to Thailand, didn't know a word of the language or even that it was famous for sex tourism. Ran a game shop and bar, ended up fluent and can read and write Thai and Lao.

year 8-12/13

Moved to China with a sketchy job offer off the internet with people I didn't know in a town I never heard of. Asked the stewardess how to say "beer" in Chinese. Now I am the Director of an International School and my boss is begging me to stay another 3 years. My Chinese is good but at this point I'm in no rush to learn more Asian languages because I feel I will spend the rest of my life in this part of the world.

Only visited the states once in this time and it was "meh"

Wow. Thanks for the story!

So in 2013, what is the appeal to live in japan atm? The game industry is in the shitter. There economy isn't that hot. Dudes there don't want to fuck anymore. And you can get cheap sushi at your local chinese buffet in the US. The hottest anime are also broadcasted online with subs almost day and date.

Whats the reasoning for some of y'all?

Good job gentlemen, you have dissuaded the OP from his fully conceived and justified plan to move to Japan. All of his well formulated intent is now laid to waste.

I hope you're all happy.

Since this is a serious question.. Assuming you're actually bilingual (meaning business/your profession Japanese, not conversational) it is very possible to get such a job..assuming you're what the company is looking for. I'm assuming you're looking to work for an international brand or a subsidiary that's in Japan? As an anecdote, I was hired right out of college at 22 to work in my field, the trick is to not give them a reason to not pick you.

edit: just realized I use the word assuming 3x..that's a lot of assumption

It's one of the safest countries in the world. You can live anywhere you want without having to really worry about crime. Most people are not obese. Mega cities that are bicycle friendly. Some really cool bizarre bars you can't find in the states. That's just off the top of my head. Negative being hard to find a real job there as a foreigner.
