So, just how strong is Piccolo?

People arguing that Yamcha never got very strong are forgetting that during the Buu saga, Yamcha was training on the Grand Kai planet and clowning people that had been training there for centuries, including a guy that placed top four in the grand tourney. If anything, he is probably Frieza level by the end of Z.

That never happens in the manga.

Thinking of the greater good and doing something that makes you a bad parent are not mutually exclusive concepts.

I mean, Gendo fucking Ikari from Evangelion does this on a daily basis (despite how Goku's master plan did work mostly according to plan, it still involved leaving Gohan in the dark and throwing him at the super powered wolf, just like Gendo and... well, everything he does with Shinji Ikari). Still doesn't change the fact that he is still a really, really bad father in the process.

Throwing him at the super powered wolf is what was necessary to awaken his power.
How else was it supposed to happen? By giving him a hug and having a talk about his feelings?
Gohan understands all of this within the first 5 minutes of the fight.

In the anime Yamcha is easily the strongest human. Also those afterlife people were on par with Pikkon, who took out Cell in one-hit. Implying anime Yamcha can take out Cell in one hit. Anime Yamcha is probably about as strong as Gohan at the Cell Games.

Manga-Yamcha is weak as hell. In the manga the strongest human is either Krilin or Tien. but it doesn't matter as Mr. Satan is the most relevant human.

Tien beat Goku in the tournament because Tien got lucky and a car hit Goku. Tien even admits he considered it a loss.

I'm aware of the circumstances that ended the fight. I was pointing out that Tien's attack would have easily obliterated Goku to the person who said it never does anything. At the very least it forced the fight to end abruptly and for Goku to use a risky last-ditch maneuver.

Filler and movies do not count and should be ignored, especially with all the inconsistencies they introduce to established facts. That last line is absurd. Frieza's power level is 120 mil. It's debatable if the Saiyan's base power levels near the end of Z ever get that high, never mind the humans who have no transformations, fusions, zenkais, kaioken/multipliers, etc. Almost everyone agrees that Tien, Krillin and Yamcha are at the low hundreds of thousands at the conservative end to single digit millions at the very generous end. The latter two grow weaker in the last arc. Humans are just that weak and none could stand up to 100% Frieza (2nd form at best).
