jarrod said:Soon I hope. WestOne is a tiny developer focusing on mobile content right now... maybe a DS game is probable?
It should've... or at least ports of Monster World 3 & 4. WestOne recently reformed themselves though, I'm guessing at this point DS would be a better option than GBA. DS actually seems to be getting lots of crossover mobile development, particularly in Japan. Companies who've only ever made mobile games like Interactive Brains or Tasuke are jumping aboard DS development too now.SantaCruZer said:yeah but why did it never happend with the gba?
Differnce being, the Wonder Boy/Monster World team still exists.SonicMegaDrive said:Right after they bring back Streets of Rage, Alex Kidd, Block Gal, Fantasy Zone, Mister Viking, and Golden Axe. Meaning, of course, never.

I think Golden Axe would a good big budget PS2 revival after Shinobi and Altered Beast. Give it to Amusement Vision and have them craft a SpikeOut-esque 3D roaming brawler.mumu said:A new Golden Axe would probably sell 4 billion copies.

What?! AM2 or AV could've done an amazing 3D Golden Axe, no question. :/chespace said:After they killed the promising but horribly excuted Altered Beast, Sega thought about reviving Golden Axe since the LOTR hack'n slash games did pretty good. But they didn't have any confidence in their internal teams to deliver that style of game, so after a half-hearted search for an external developer, they dropped that idea too.
Their last full game was actually Amazing Island on GameCube. They usually do sound or illustration work for other developers though, such as Dokapon the World on PS2 recently. They have a tba game coming for PS2, let's hope for a Beyond Oasis revival.belgurdo said:Do they still make games? The last thing I saw them release was Car Battler Joe

Altered Beast was a victim more of bad mismanagement and team shuffling rather than the actual people involved in the game. It probably would've been best for Wow to scrap the game entirely when Sammy closed down Wow Shanghai in the restucturing and let Rieko Kodama's team start over from scratch.
duckroll said:Actually Altered Beast hasn't been killed at all. It's still going to be released in Japan, a demo is out, and it's still horrible. It's just not getting a US release.![]()
I dunno, look how Shinobi turned out. Nevermind that Sega blew the followup though.chespace said:Moreover, I think the point is that most of Sega's old franchises are all but commercially irrelevant for Sega in this day and age. They seem exist for a small minority of diehards (most of whom seem to populate forums) -- which is cool -- but not really the right steps to put Sega back on the road to 3rd party profitability.

DOA, AFAIC![]()

If done right, I think Golden Axe would make a great revival.
On the other hand, look at Shinobi or PSO. Sure there's bombs like Toejam & Earl, Outrun or (soon) Altered Beast, but there's precedents for commercially successful revivals too.Warm Machine said:I wonder how many die hard Sega fans actually buy the games they bitch about Sega not releasing. Looking at the dreadful sales of Out Run 2 I seriously doubt 50% of people who wanted that game actually bought it.
Sold 600k+.chespace said:And what did Shinobi do for Sega in this day and age?![]()

I'm not so sure about that. SOA sold around 300k worldwide and it was a no-name RPG, while PSO only moved about 500k. I bet a straight up Phantasy Star V would sold just as well as PSO did initially.Warm Machine said:PSO was a groundbreaking title for consoles and a great game to boot. It if were just another RPG on DC like Skies of Arcadia was it wouldn't have sold near as much.
So all GA would need is being a decent game with decent advertising.Warm Machine said:Shinobi was advertised pretty heavily by Sega and got a lot of press in magazines.

ONLY!?!
Thats still not bad. Also considering the fact that they are STILL getting revenue for the subscription fees. What does it take for you people to consider a damn game a success?![]()

Worldwide. About 250k in the US, about 200k in Japan and at least 150k everywhere else (likely more actually given how Sega nostalgic Europe is). It's outsold Ninja Gaiden worldwide in all likelihood.chespace said:Is that 600k worldwide or in the U.S.?
Sure, I was talking about only the DC originals. I think had PSV been released in place of PSO, it would've done just as well probably.AniHawk said:PSO, in all its incarnations, has sold over 1,000,000 across the world. SOA/L, reportedly, has sold 500,000 WW.
