So, what was Eno on when he made D2? (Kimberly nude monster scene video inside)

I just found this... :lol :lol :lol

An epic and often misunderstood amalgamation of the best and worst bits from Resident Evil, the Thing (JC), and various soft-core pron, or let's just say orally fixated porn. There wasn't much to do besides wander around in snow and find yourself attacked by beasts with tendrils. But the innovative nature of the game stems from the fact that one of the mosters was a giant gaping vagina; it's an experience not to be missed. Actually, it's a giant metallic vagina - you thow a "g-bomb" at the giant clit in order to get the vertical flaps to open, afterwhich you can hammer it, or pepper it with your ordinance. This makes it even more entertaining than the mutant old grampa that you meet earlier in the game, who grows a giaganitic shlong, waves it around, and spits white goo all over you. Fortunately at the end of that battle, giant doves appear, grab the giant member and fly off with it after dumping crazy grampa on the floor. This is something you just don't see in western games, or indeed in 99% of eastern video games. Needless to say, Sega toned down some of the more risque elements for the American audience.

That's the most bizarre cutscene i've ever seen in a videogame!!

That, combined with the fact that 99% of the board has probably never even played D2 is why I popped it in today for video captures for my website.

Warp's D2 was yet another game censored for the North American release. The scene where an infected terrorist shoves his tentacle down Kimberly's throat was thought to be too suggestive of oral sex. Ironically, later in the game there are far more sexually explicit scenes that the censors left untouched such as full frontal nudity, suggestive male ejaculation, and symbolic female sexual intercourse with a machine gun. It's obvious that the concientious individuals involved did not take the time to play the entire game.

Wasn't this game originally made for that M2 console or whatever? It was the one the was like 2X as powerful as the N64 and PSX but never came out.

I got the game. (US version, so its censored) I remember a lot of people yelling about this at that time. Kenji Eno is working at a place called From Yellow To Orange. They are a consulting firm. He doesn't make games anymore. Just consults about them.

What kind of yelling? Yelling for censoring the game? Yelling for the content?

The voice acting is quite decent.

The JP version has JP VAing, so this has to be from the US version.

There were more disturbing scenes in D2. Beat the game long ago (japanese Version, uncut). One scene I remember most is later in the plane... gapping... dripping....blood...

Care to make more videos, cow?

I took several dozen D2 and Zombie Revenge videos today. The real question is, who's going to click my ads and donate money to pay for my bandwidth so I can put them up? ;)

Kenji Eno was really fucked up on a lot of drugs (like, dangerously so) back during the D2 days. I don't know if he's cut down, but he was NOT a healthy man.

A lot of DC developers said a lot of bullshit in regards to their games being able to run on the PS2...couple that with the "Headhunter looks better than MGS2 and can never run on PS2" crowd and you had a full army of delusional gamers....all that aside the DC is still able to compete with any system now in terms of fun :b

Cool video...You are right, I have never played D2 due to the fact that it's not easy at all to get it...And that I want to play the SS original first.

Some of that was in regard to image qualities, and they were right. Just like there are devs that point out specific aspects about their PS2 games that can't be replicated exactly on Xbox. You just have to be aware of the context when considering it.

Kenji Eno's team and also the team of his friend, Tetsuya Mizaguchi, are still some of the few developers who have used sound for play mechanics. In Warp's Enemy Zero, you had to track an invisible enemy with only the beeping of a sensor to guide you - which made for a very suspenseful atmosphere. Warp also made the audio-only game, Real Sound. Eno played piano sections for D2's soundtrack which were written to express the depth of the "whiteness" that exists when you're trapped in the middle of a desolate field of snow.

Nah...I was thinking more about what Cubsfan was talking about...along with the smilebit guy saying cel shading could never be done on the PS2 or the Sonic Team dude saying PSO could *never* be attemtpted on the PS2

I got the first D game in a sack full of random Sega CD, Saturn, and Dreamcast games I bought from a pawn shop..

D was weird. What is the connection between D and D2, anyway?

This video rules. I must now acquire all region versions of D2 immediately.

The nudity makes me wish the game was made by Team Ninja (or Tamsoft!) though. :(

Speaking of nudity, it has given this thread upwards of 1000 views. I'll be sure to include it in all my topics from now on!

COCKLES

Wow totally shocking.

Two black characters in one FMV!

And considering it's a Japanese game, they weren't wearing boxing gloves!

I clicked on your ads man. Videos!

Except for the fact that I've just woken up to find 1,000+ views which was unexpected, and nearly one fifth of my monthly bandwidth used just by the video.

I really need a dedicated server for my lofty plans... but there's no way in hell I could ever afford it. *sigh*

I don't know if this is really Kenji Eno's blog, but I found a link to it while searching for information on From Yellow To Orange (note: when searching Google, be sure to include "-terror" as a keyword to filter out all the articles regarding the US' terror alert being raised). '"from yellow to orange" -terror +eno' led me to this page, which in turn led me to this page. The babelgrish translation of the latest post there seems to be talking about game development. If it really is his blog, it might be of some interest to those who can read Japanese. It might not even really be his, though, so make of it what you will.

Oh, and be careful when clicking on some of the links on that first link, you'll end up with banners covered in panty shots and the like.

I should add those to my site to help pay the bills.

I've talked with Kenji Eno back when he was still making D2. A lot of what he said about gaming made sense and may have sounded arrogant I guess for some since he couldnt make a game that lived up to his words.

He has a beautiful wife too. I saw them in Shinjuku like some weeks ago with their kid shopping. And they were on TV recently too talking about their marriage (it was like one of those "how to maintain a healthy marriage" show). He said when he was working on D2, it almost ruined their marriage...

I recall the original D2 on the M2 having a story-line that was along the lines of Laura getting in a plane crash (which happened in the DC D2, right?) and her unborn child's soul getting whisked into the past and you played him as a young boy trying to get out of a mansion or something. I recall Next Generation ooing and awwing over the screenshots, and at the time, I guess they were impressive.

One last thing, I don't know what caused the plane to crash in the DC version, but I think it was her dead dad's soul or something in the M2.

Anyways, I always admired Eno since he was always entertaining in the Japanese press (remember that whole anti-Sony tirade from a Tokyo Game Show from way back?) and his games had a few good ideas, like Enemy Zero and Real Sound, but I must confess I never really enjoyed playing his games. As cool as Enemy Zero was, I could never get far in it.

I played right to the final boss in D2 but I couldn't figure out how to not get killed instantly by the final boss nor how to do any damage to him at all. It had some rather ... interesting moments you could say.

Ha ha, that's right.

Actually, while I had played some D2 previously, I had almost forgotten how it looked. Damn, it really has not aged well at all. There was first gen PS2 stuff that absolutely destroyed this visually (The Bouncer, for instance). Eno was high if he thought this couldn't be done on PS2...

Of course, I also remember people saying Headhunter looked better than MGS2...which is almost sad.
