So where did the owls come from?

Every time the pics appear, they make me laugh...but I still don't know their origin. What was the original thread/joke that started it all?

All I remember was a picture of an owl that said "O RLY?" and then one below it that said "Yes. RLY" :lol
 
Ah, I was always under the impression they were created on GAF.

Last night a fuckin' owl was in one of my dreams btw. I was letting my cat out through the milk chute in our house and there's this HUGE owl in it.

It was wearing a top hat too hahaha. I let it inside and it ran around my house like a fox with a really long tail. I thought it was gonna kill me but I went to bed (in my dream) and it slept beside me like my cats do, then went away because it said it's curfew was up. Tata, owl!

after a brief discussion with Matlock's bot master on irc, we agreed that matlock was actually a bi-directional copy/paste bot between sa and ga. This case is now settled.
 
the only reason why the Wednesdayton thread was awesome was because of the Owls I lol so hard when I saw the thread summary in Owl fashion that was great.
 
There's a store in my mall called ORLY. I fucking flipped when I saw it, I need to get a picture next time I go.
 
I hate the internet's stupid little lingo...

It's getting as bad as reality TV and that's pretty fucking bad.
 
I refuse to believe that something as lame as Something Awful could come up with something as awesome as the owls. Perhaps someone on the forums did -- I don't know, I've never been -- but not the actual SA guys. I don't think anyone can beat them in overall douche points, and they need to get punched in the face.
 
I still laugh at the "Rape Time" owl, its just really creepy.. which is why I can't figure out why I laugh at it. Probably beacuse its so absurd.
 
Ha, everyone that uses the internet is stupid, myself included. Yeah, I admit it. We're living in the dark ages man, face it.

It would've have to been a few months ago if SA got it started then because I've been seeing those owls on Killing Ifrit's Fairy forum for ages (It's the the server I'm on).

I don't know why Owls are so funny, but they are. Rape Time is hilarious. I just never thought of Owl's as funny creatures, like a monkey for example, but damn I was wrong.

The "O RLY?" owl in the Wednesdayton thread may be the funniest thing I have ever seen on the internet. If you don't agree, you can just go away, because you're obviously no fun at all.
 
But leet speak was never funny and slapping it on pictures of owls doesn't make it funny.
 
They're not as funny as people make them sound, but they do a smile on my face. the only one I found really funny is the O RLY, the rest are jsut ok. Where exactly can i find this pictures though?
 
Yeah, the O RLY owl is pretty damn funny. It's just such a goofy image.

Also, the "I see what you did there" owl is perfect. :)

I think that's what makes them funny for the majority.. we actually hear the owls play it out in our minds.
 
That's what makes it so funny to me. It isnt just an owl and a saying underneath. You can imagine the owl saying it in a certain way, and that's what makes the owls' expressions so funny. The "Rape Time" picture is a perfect example of that :D

I was looking for one to post here but I can't find it. It's the "Hay Guyz!" one. It cracks me up every time because you can just hear the owl saying it :lol
