So where did the owls come from?

The rape time owl almost killed me. Well it felt like it, I was laughing so hard I was crying, then I started to get a stitch, then I couldn't breathe.

I haven't laughed like that since bloodninja.

I laugh all the time on the net, maybe not to the degree I just described, but if I post a :lol, it means I actually laughed.
 
Lots of things make me laugh on the internet. Few things make me laugh as much as some of these owls though. The Wednesdayton summary was just so funny, I was almost in tears :lol
 
Not like we'll be missing an arm when they are gone - but if fucking owl pics are the kind of thing that upsets you, then there is no hope for this world.

It's a snowy owl-they are notoriously hard to get close to, though. Best places to see them in North American is in the Canadian tundra areas. In the US, there are some good places where they often overwinter-Duluth MN, and Boston's Logan Airport (Snowy Owls love airports, the noise doesn't bother them and they are nice and flat like they like it) are good spots.

I saw one in Duluth earlier this year when I went to go check out the insane Great Grey Owl influx that happened. Was a really pretty bird!

I agree. I think they are hilarious and that wednesdayton round-up made me laugh like crazy. What's amazing is their incredible facial expressions.. You can see them actually saying the captions underneath :lol

:lol @ the pic, I think as long as they stay kinda cute and light hearted then it will be cool once people start laming them out with every catch phrase that hits the net then it will play out. But, hell the way I see it I think it's time to retire the old funny animal Mr. Monkey.
 
I don't understand all the hostility towards them. They aren't offensive or nasty or anything and it's just a light-hearted joke that a lot of people find very funny. Where's the harm in that? The WTF and STFU ones are great because the expressions are just perfect for each saying :lol

It's pretty much become an internet fad to be hostile towards other popular internet fads. It makes you feel like you're cool and above it all, when really you're nothing but an online equivalent of, say, an indie music snob.

Those owl pics had been around GAF for at least a couple weeks before the Wednesdayton. I saw a couple on some other threads, and thought they were friggin' great. I plucked the O RLY and YA RLY ones because I thought they were awesome; the facial expression matched with the caption. I guess my own personal reason why I found them so funny is that you CAN almost hear the owls saying these things, but it's in these very over-the-top, but very genuine voices.

When Wednesdayton came around, the ridiculousness of that thread was reaching insurmountable heights and I thought it was a good enough excuse to break out the ORLY/YARLY combo plus a few of my own (the first four in my original post.)

And I've thought owls to be funny animals ever since seeing the one in Ocarina of Time. The way he'd turn his head upside down while talking to you always seemed to crack me up for some reason.

My budgie used to do that. I think that's what makes it so funny to me. Whenever it was sunny, he would hold his wings out slightly and stick his tongue out
