Man, like 90% of your posts suck.

Yeah, okay Mister Anal Retentive Star Wars Nerd.

They're probably alien to you because most of them are out of context.

Or because they suck? Hell, even the Star Wars fan said they sucked. For those not playing at home:

Eh, most of the ones you're posting aren't very good, actually :p

So stop posting shitty quotes.

WTF? Considering that Anakin has to completely his turn to the darkside how the f*ck could this episode be light hearted?

Well maybe Lucas will have the all the bad guys together at the end of the movie. Then one will make a silly joke and then they all start laughing like the good guys do in all the other movies at the end, except they'll laugh evilly.

Did no one TiVo this or what? I mean I know Lucas likes to keep a lid on things for people who pay him 40.00 a year for the fanclub but seriously. I refuse to watch the OC and I need to see this.

Whose idea WAS it to put it on the OC anyway? I mean, completely different core demographics.

"The Daaark Siiidde of the Force is a paaaathwaaay to manyyy abilitieees, somme connsiderrred to beeee...unnnnnaturrralll..."

Bleh. It'll be fun. There will be some crazy lightsaber fights. I'm really over trying to get anything resembling real satisfaction beyond that out of these movies these days (the prequels, that is).

In answer to the original question, I finally saw the trailer, and it didn't really stir up a lot in me. That's good, because I'd rather go in with low expectations and be pleasantly surprised than go in hyped up and be disappointed.

At the very least, it looks like there'll be a good dose of action.

Small balls, big fun!
I just wandered into this thread, and I read the list of quotes Saki was posting, and thought "well, looks like someone other than Doug is stirring up shit."

Then I realized he's defending the movie, and is using those quotes as examples of good writing...

:lol :lol :lol Saki's own line of "There's much more but..." was the best in the entire post. :lol Good God those quotes sucked...

Even if Ep3 does turn out to be more tolerable than the past 2 contemptible synthetic monstrosities, it will still just be the finale to a pair of disappointments. If it's a cherry on top of a shit sundae, that doesn't make the movie that much more appetizing.

I disagree. My own perspective on these movies has been that the first two didn't mean shit anyway. The only one that matters to me is seeing Anakin turn into Darth, and seeing him tip the scales in a huge battle that eventually lead to the defeat of the Jedi. If that had happened in Episode 1 that would've been cool with me. It happens to be Episode 3 that has that, so that's the one I want to be decent. I don't need great, or even good...just decent. Gimme some tolerable transition scenes between a bunch of people kicking each other's asses, and ships blowing each other the fuck up.

I like the Star Wars movies, but never once got wrapped up in them the way others did. Never once were they indelible moments of my childhood...they were just really cool movies to watch at the time, along with Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ghostbusters, Animalympics and whatever else I liked watching back then. I haven't even seen the prequels, save for the last ten minutes of the first one.

Anakin going bad. Jedi vs Sith in a climatic battle. Darth being born. That's all I need. Hopefully it's done well enough that I'll want to catch it at the theatre.

Ok, this bugs me.

Does no one else think that ILM's CG kind of sucks?

I mean, it's good, sure. But compared to WETA Digital's pure amazing awesomeness in the LOTR trilogy? No.

Lucas picked the wrong goddamn time to make this trilogy. It looks all the crappier stacked up to LOTR, and ILM's work looks like crap compared to WETA.

I mean, the bluescreening was horribly obvious in the TRAILER! And Yoda still looks like shit, even though they've had three years to fix him. Gollum looks so much better.

Beyond that, I think that Lucas' battlescenes just pail in comparison to what Jackson and co put out. There's too much bright shiny laser shit going on without any real composition or decent editing.

Anyone have a link to a site that has the trailer up besides starwars.com? I'm not paying 40 bucks to be a damn "Hyperspace" member. I completly forgot about the trailer being on.. Though I don't think I would've been able to sit through the O.C. just to see the damn thing.

Nah. WETAs is very very good obviously, but ILM are probably better. It's the films that are the problems here. LOTR was filmed on location in New Zealand for the most part - a lot of the epic scenery is real. The stuff that isnt, is obvious. And Legolas flying up the elephant for example is just as bad as Anakin riding the stupid cow thing in the field in AOTC. Difference being, Legolas kills loads of people and it's in the middle of a battle, hence teh cool!

The Star Wars Prequel trilogy has an inordinate amount of blue screen. Lucas actively pushes that kind of thing... he wants to be the first with a truly real CG human some day too. But using it on these films so much may have been a mistake. Some of the stage work looks great, there are a few shots where it's a shame. The one in AOTC where Yoda, and Mace are walking with Obi Wan ("He's grown.. arrogant") -- it's a really bright scene, and it just looks unreal. In Fellowship of the Ring, when they enter the caves, theres a shot there that looked bad, but the darkness helped somewhat. I also think these prequels should have had more humanoids-in-masks type aliens. They just seem more tangible. Think of the "Banking clan will sign your treaty" guy. AWFUL.

Key Orc characters in LOTR are guys in make up - it makes all the difference. One thing I didn't notice in AOTC (to ILMs credit) is that EVERY clone trooper is CG. They look awesome.

The scene where the clone trooper meets padme on the sand looks atrocious.. reboot'esque. And.. Golum >>>>>>>> Yoda (in model/animation). It isn't even remotely close.

Well, it's Lucas' own fault for relying on CG so much. Jackson was intelligent, realized that an almost all-cg movie would look like crap, and used an eclectic mix of special effects.

I'll give you the bluescreening in TTT, but all of the Star Wars films of late have been a good deal worse. The "green screening" in ROTK was very well done, for the most part. On top of that, Gollum just looks very lifelike, while Yoda looks like a PS2 FMV character.

Plus, WETA had M.A.S.S.I.V.E., which just made their huge battle sequences amazing and really believeable. ILM has yet to match it.

Beyond that, TTT won the best special effects Oscar over ILM's ATOC. Given, it wasn't all WETA digital, but they were a huge part of that.

Not me. I'll still watch it but the trailer left me unimpressed. We know the story already so what else is left?

Thoughts-

the more Portman acts, the more I think she's shit. She was great in the first one when she had all that face paint and didn't have to act
Ewan McGregor is a mistake, perfect mimicry of the accent or not
Anakin actor whoever he is, IS A MISTAKE.
Samuel L Jackson is also miscast
SW episodes 1+2 sucked eggs ergo...
George Lucas looks like he has lympahtic disease.
and
Digital Yoda is the right height to suck my balls (if he tiptoes)

so verdict. Movie chance of suckage = 80%

Ghost

Chili Con Carnage!
sp......na i wont go there..

Anyway back on topic, yes i am Lucas' bitch again. And i dont give a shit if WETA produces more believable CG than ILM, because WETA dont do massive space battles or epic lightsaber duels, all they have going for them is giant elephants...so they lose.

Anyone who goes into a theatre this may expecting Ep3 to be some piece of glorious cinema with a great script just needs to give up now, it's Star Wars ffs, the only good line it ever had was "Luke, I am your father" other than that it has always just been a special effects splooge fest. And that's exactly what Ep 3 will be aswell.

Blah. I'm not hyped for this movie at all. Too many let downs. I'll still see it but will likely be watching with a highly skeptical eye. The movie is really going to have to impress me.

Yep, here I am bitching about being "let down" but I'm still going to contribute to Lucas' bank account.

What is with the posted quotes in here? You might as well post this....

"Yeah, I'd like to order a large cheese pizza."
"Anything else?"
"No."
"Okay, that'll be about 20 minutes."

And that's about as mundane, dry and boring most of the dialogue is in the prequals. Oh, except for those bad puppets with pathetic attempts at Asian accents.

Erm, yeah, just watched the trailer. It's exciting, but I think it's indicative that the dubious quality of Lucas' skills as a director haven't improved at all.

Lucas doesn't make shit. It's a bunch of Yes-Men making what they think he will like. And the only good SW movie was ESB, and we have Kershner to thank for that.

This is what cracks me up about this thread...almost everyone who says it'll suck dick plan to see it anyway, either out of a sense of duty or some other equally stupid reason. If you think it's gonna suck, don't fucking watch it. It isn't like you're gonna lose your theatre privileges.
