so why did the president in MGS2 manhandle Raiden's meat and tatos?

As mentioned, I finally got round to playing/finishing MGS2 over the weekend and ... uergh.. what a game. Fighting all the gears with the stinger and that last boss fight made it worth playing through. I only wish there was more of it (gameplay.. damn, the 30 minute cinemas drove me crazy).. .:) :D weird, stupid, funny, overwrought and fun in equal measures.

so. what's with that?

makes no sense; here's a man who resigned to his death when his life signals get autheticated in an hour; in comes Raiden and he feels compelled to reach out and touch his penis?

what?

and lollers at naked Raiden interrogation scene.the sequence in arsenal gear was just insane. Running around naked and back flips (raiden jump) while holding onto his privates = :lol :lol

It was an homage to Crocodile Dundee. Kojima is a very big Paul Hogan fan.

was it a croc dundee homage? Kojima didn't mention it.

I found the whole Titanic + western homages that kojima talked about in the making of dvd to be funny. That whole business about JACK and ROSE... if I'd known before I played the game, I probably be unable to handle it.

Like the guy in your avatar? :lol

I KNEW you'd say that, I KNEW it! Zensetsu predictability +1.

I must admit i thought Serph was a chick at first too, but he's still cool, Raiden is not... damn whiney angsty bitch.

perhaps he wasnt being serious with the Croc dundee ref, it was a joke perhaps? ;)

anyways, original poster, you are asking for motivation of a gesture potus makes in a story which relys on ridiculous motivations for all its characters?

your question should be rephrased to 'why didnt potus try and kiss raiden too?'

the game was pretty OTT but I found that bit the oddest bit. The other bits were just overwrought dramedy

Also was fortune the daughter of the minigun weilding black guy from MGS one?

No, she was the daughter of the Commandant that was killed by Ocelot in the Tanker Chapter, Vamp's former boytoy, Scott Dolph (named after kojima's translator/bodyguard). Her railgun is awfully reminiscent of Raven's vulcan.

oh him? Is that right? Her skimpy leotard outfit also = lollers.

One of the most hillarious bit in this game is near the start where the russian chick puts up her arms and you see the old growth forests residing there. I laughed out loud. (theres nothing incredibly wrong with it, it was just totally unexpected)

oh yeah. Olga's hairy armpits were funny. :lol I love Hideo Kojima. :)

tbh, i think people credit kojima with too much, i personally do not think his a master of irony and satire, his popular culture refs are too low-brow to be 'beyond post-modern', i believe he thinks all his 'work' is as good as it gets.

dont get me wrong, i enjoy the mgs series, for the gameplay and the interesting situations, but the script and character motivation and the horrific exposition are some of the worst in the business.

in the end, i dont think its too wise to try and piece it all together, because its not intended to be. its actually standalone gibberish, but entertaining gibberish.

edit: entertaining is NOT spelt 'entering'

I hear what you're saying, but the "WTF" factor is what makes me love the games. The random stuff, the (totally) implausible stories....the bits where it suddenly gets all (badly) philosophical\supernatural that make you wonder what the hell is going on....its great.

indeed, i agree with you, hence the 'interesting situations' and 'entertaining gibberish' :)

mgs3 showed what happens when you lay off the crazy-juice a little. you get a great game and an entertaining story, although the final monologe took from an otherwise amazing final act.

2007 may bring the best one yet.
