So, with 80$ games becoming the norm are you gonna be pickier about purchases?

Nintendo broke the seal and it seems MS and surely Sony will follow suit with first party games for the most part costing 79.99. Are you gonna still be there day one to support the devs are are you all gonna wait for massive sales?

I'm gonna be damn picky about what constitutes a day one purchase at that price.

Honestly, I've been pickier about purchasing for a long time now. It helps that I primarily moved to PC a long time ago, cause at least I know I can get certain titles cheaper there than I would on console.

But even then, I certainly ask myself if I can wait or not. With prices going up, it makes it even easier to wait. I'm by no means hurting on money or anything, but I do give myself a spending limit that I don't want to increase just because.

Very few games do I buy on day one. Most of the time, the game is not complete yet and you need to wait three to six months to get the better overall experience.

Hell fucking yeah, I am. If you want more money from me, you better believe I am going to up my expectations even more. (And I already am a picky motherfucker).

Subscribe or rent, buy/resell physical or buy digital on PC at a discount

Noting really is going to change for me

80€ is nothing new here in Europe and yes, that definitely affected my day1 purchases. I'm very picky about 70€ games already. I don't think I ever paid full 80€ on a new game.

People should be pickier not just because of increased prices but also because of the massive time investment gaming demands. You probably don't need to play more 100 hour long weeaboo shit.

Yes, but it's not gonna revolutionize how I buy games as it's only $10. I don't want to undermine anybody's struggle and it sucks that for some people $10 is a big difference but for me it's not make or break.

I already tried to be a little more picky when I stopped playing as many games in general as I was buying games and never touching them.

No. Gp. Everything else is a sale.
You guys are the vegans of the gaming world alongside PCMR and Steam Deck owners.

Nintendo and Microsoft only for now, so nothing of value has been lost for me, yet.

It would be incredibly naive to believe that other publishers aren't going to price their next AAA title at $80. I understand that it's not "official" yet, but I can't think of an instance where a couple of publishers increased prices without the increase being quickly adopted by the rest of the industry.

Anyway, to address the thread's main topic: I already only buy games at full price if I'm really excited for them and trust that they'll be high quality. Probably at least 80% of my purchases are made at deep discount years after release.

I mostly buy on Sony and Steam and those have not announced any price raises. I. Boy currently affected.

My solution to others that have an issue with this slop premium is to support another platform and bankrupt the competition. But too many idiots in gaming...

Also blacktout blacktout above me, everyone thought during E3 Sony was going to copy and follow Microsoft with the Xbox One. Everyone. And then they put out their legendary 20 second video showing us how you can borrow games on the PS4. Don't think Sony doesn't want to finish off Xbox by charging less until it happens. They recently showed off pricing for one of their big AAA games this year at $70 which is way bigger than MK.

I just did with Xenoblade X DE and love every minute of it.

Sony and Steam don't control the prices from publishers

I was already picky. I do not want a price increase, but I do not think I will feel it hit my budget.

I mostly buy indies and if I buy AA or AAA i often wait for discounts.
Higher prices won't change much for me.

That's why I'm saying 'for now'. Stuff like DS2 and Ghost of Yotei are at $70.
That being said, publishers will be naive as well if they think than anything other than the biggest series (GTA, COD, Mario Kart) will fly at $80, so I wouldn't be sure of it having a big effect on the grand scheme of things.

So which publishers are pushing out $80 games? So far, Nintendo and Microsoft unless I've missed something. EA doesn't make games, Ubisoft can't afford to mess up at all, and we'll, there's not many others making AAA games.

It's $10 more (+/- taxes) which doesn't affect me. Though for me I only buy games at full price if it's day 1, must buy. Sale otherwise.

Sony nuked the hype of that video when they announced in the same E3 event that online play would be paid.

Sony usually has really good sales so unless it's something I have to have (obilivion) I am going to be more discerning.

My old library system in Massachusetts had so many games to borrow. The 2 islands used to buy all the games cause it gets deadly boring in the winter. I used to play all my Nintendo games that way.

I've been for some time now, the last games I bought full price at launch are BG3, ASTRO BOT and KCD2, POE2 was 30€.
This year I was interested in MGS Delta but there's no way I'm paying 80€ lol, I'll rethink about it when it reaches 40€.

Yep, going to be even pickier then I already was. If the industry want to squeeze me I'll squeeze right back. Between my backlog, physical collection and emulation machines I'll have all the entertainment I'll need for many years to come.

I have been for quite a while now. I read about games far more than I play them at this point. Game Pass and PS+ have helped cure me of BUYING EVERY MAJOR RELEASE. I also used to be one to get collector/limited editions. Of everything. Ended up with a closet of misfit toys and just....stopped. FOMO doesn't hit me anymore. I didn't even bother with Switch 2. One...well, who cares. 2? Waiting on the inevitable OLED. Ridiculous they're launching a new system with a worse screen than their last release.

Last time I bought a game on day 1, was cyberpunk, and at that time, that had been my first day 1 purchase in like 3-4 years.

I have absolutely no trouble waiting for deep sales, since I have a huge backlog to play.

Certainly + I'm going back to selling and purchasing used games. I bought ac shadows 45€ 3 weeks after its release. That's perfect for me.

I rarely purchase AAA games day one now, mostly smaller titles and indies. However, where games are priced at $80 or £70 on Steam, I'll just go on gg.deals and buy from wherever is cheapest.

Mine wont change, I will still buy the games I want to play day one.

I did this year with MHWilds, Xenoblade X DE and Expedition 33 and I have no regret because I had a blast playing them.

Steam sales, baby.
Also, if I buy something I don't enjoy, i'll get a Steam refund.
As for Playstation and Nintendo, i'm probably just buying 4-5 games a year on those, and that's games where I don't care about price. (Zelda, Metroid etc). If they cost 50 or 100 bucks is no big deal, since I buy few of them.

Pretty sure that was the last physical game I bought on day 1. I wrestled with buying KCD2 for about two months and then finally downloaded it. Great way to break in the PS5 Pro.
