So, with 80$ games becoming the norm are you gonna be pickier about purchases?

My game purchases have slowed drastically for the last decade. So at this point, either this is where I finally give up gaming OR buy very sporadically to play some discounted games with my two girls.

We still play our Switch catalog quite often though. I don't play for myself really anymore. Just a different gaming phase for me now and I guess with the price hike was the final deciding factor for me.

Cheap or not, Im always picky on choice of games. Well about price increase, inflation, tarrifs, I understand what is happening and there are more important matters in this world than gaming, and in the end it will bear fruit. Personally, I dont mind since I have a job and I have funds to spend for me,my family, and extras for gaming.

I've not even paid 60 bucks for any game in a very long time.
Key Seller Sites be praised... and occasionally a Gamepass trial.
With amazing games like Hades, Satisfactory or Expedition 33 available for 30-40 bucks there is no way in hell i'd ever pay 80 for any game, no matter which.
Exceptions would be physical games I can resell but that doesn't exist on PC anymore.

Soon as i heard Expedition 33 was gonna be $50 i pre-ordered a physical copy immediately. But, if it had been $70 or $80 i would've waited till black friday despite loving the fact that the game is turn-based.

So, yeah i'll be buying less games day 1.

Yeah I already was slowing my spending after the jump to $70

From now on it's Game Pass + Nintendo 1st party. Everything else is a wait for sale unless it's something that looks truly special

I've been fine waiting for 30%+ off sales on games I've wanted for awhile now with the exceptions being MP games that my friends want to play at launch.

Some 10/10 games and devs though I wouldn't mind paying $100 for like Doom: DA but those are few and far between. Most AAA games aren't worth more than $50 imo.

In conjunction with physical games becoming less available or just a code ina box, that opportunity to trade is going to dwindle fast. So I suspect a lot of people will be more picky. I am already picky as it stands with purchases.

There's very few games I buy day 1 as is. I started playing the Like a Dragon games because it was on sale Black Friday for $10

I would only pay this amount for Nintendo exclusives that I like or some spectacular game like Elden Ring.

The rest I'll get from Steam promotions, mixing my backlog with the GamePass subscription.

I'm not really bothered by the price increases. While I think the average quality of games is much higher today than ever before thanks to the convergence of genres, control schemes, design philosophies, etc., It's hard for me to be interested in the vast majority of what is released these days as the sameyness quickly leads to feeling of tedium. And while that average quality has risen, I don't think the highest of highs today reaches the heights of the past. The good news is that there are so many fucking releases these days, it's hard to swing a dead cat without finding a game that one might be interested in and there are so many ways to play games for free or in a very inexpensive manner that we are spoiled for choice, but maybe that's part of the problem as well. I remember joining Gamefly when it launched back in the day and it really didn't save me any money. I'd still buy all the games I normally would and used that service to play anything I was remotely interested in (and sometimes not even then) which was a complete waste of time and looking back, I wish I'd just focused on the games I had purchased instead. Where am I going with all of this? Fuck if I know.

Find a trustworthy friend or fam member, go digital, and do home sharing. Two gamers play for one price. Even better, wait for a deal so it's cheaper and the game company gets even less money.

Yeah. As a punitive measure I'm paying $35 at most and if games cease to drop that low I just won't buy them. I respect the hustle, but they can all blow me.

I'm already extremely picky so nothing new, but it doesn't matter too much since I only buy physical game that I can resell att pretty much full price if I don't like it.

If I love the game, I don't really care about the price. It's worth it for the few gems out there, I don't have the time to play mediocre stuff anyway.

I'm already pretty careful about only buying games I'll actually play so I'm not that worried about 10 bucks

You can't even get a burger combo with fries and a drink for 10 bucks these days lol

I'm already picky.
I use Gamepass whenever possible and wait for Steam sales or claim free Epic games.

The games I've bought this year so far:
Wreckfest 2 early access, 24€.
Shooter Ultimate, 9€.

I threw in the towel at $70 games. I've only bought 2 new games at full price this gen.

It's funny to me that I used to impulse buy games at $50 all the time. But now any game I'm interested in gets wish listed. And I wait until the game is in the $20 to $30 range. So by raising prices these publishers are saving me money, lol. I

already much pickier and i usually now wait for reviews and 2-3 patches. most games arent worth the asked price and its unlikely i buy a game thats more than 50eu now. i just wait or buy a used copy on disc.

I started being pickier with my purchases years ago, and it's Steam's fault. I realized that I'm never going to play about 50% of the games I purchased (at steep discounts, mind - rarely do I ever buy full-price). I'm only interested in buying a game if it really speaks to me, and I'm certain I'm going to actually play it.

I'm almost guaranteed never to buy a game that's 80 bucks. Nope. Unless it's something earth-shaking. Like if Julian Gollop were to 100% finish Freedom Ridge. I'd buy that for 100 bucks, easy.

I've been pickier about purchases since like 2014. The jump to $70 made me even pickier, and the jump to $80 will set the bar even higher.

As it stands there are very few triple-A games I'm willing to pay full day one retail price for. Especially knowing that I'll be able to get most games I want in 3-6 months on sale, or if I wait a while longer I can get a "complete" version cheaper.

It would be incredibly naive to believe that other publishers aren't going to price their next AAA title at $80. I understand that it's not "official" yet, but I can't think of an instance where a couple of publishers increased prices without the increase being quickly adopted by the rest of the industry.

Anyway, to address the thread's main topic: I already only buy games at full price if I'm really excited for them and trust that they'll be high quality. Probably at least 80% of my purchases are made at deep discount years after release.
Ubisoft already planning their next AAAAA quality game for $90 base

Yes since I'm not in any hurry to get any new games asap. Only the best of the best like GTA VI, Fallout 5, or Elder Scrolls VI will get a full price day 1 without question.

I rarely play games at launch anymore anyway so unless everyone also adopt Nintendo's policy of never lowering a game's price over time it won't affect me too much.

I don't buy games at full price now. I just wait a couple of weeks or months and get it for 20% off. At 80 bucks, I can wait years. It would have to be that rare exception of a game like GTA 6 that I really want to play to pay that. Those are very rare these days. I can live without all the Gaas and buggy modern game shit at launch.

I've been picky ever since full versions of most AAA games were $80~$100 for the season pass with all the DLC that in years past would have just been in the base game. For like maybe a decade at this point.

already buying 10-20% of what I used to in the PS3-PS4 eras. Games are just too expensive and I have a solid backlog to go through, no rush in picking up games.

These days on PC, I feel weird paying about £40 for new games from 3rd party sites. Microsoft games being £70 for the standard edition makes that price jump though. The deluxe edition of Doom was about £71 vs £99 on Steam (think the standard edition was about £51 vs £70)

I will not be happy going beyond that price for standard games and only in very rare times at that. Clair Obscure standard was like £26 and deluxe was £32 or something.

Game companies are so greedy for the most part, I hope they start to choke on their bullshit like (seemingly) Ubisoft is currently doing.

Very few games do I buy on day one. Most of the time, the game is not complete yet and you need to wait three to six months to get the better overall experience.
Yup, when you buy day 1 all that means is you paid the highest price to play the worst version of the game. Not even just bugs/performance, lots of games get new features and gameplay updates over the first year or so, not to mention season passes, expansions, etc

My FOMO is gone. So many times I wish I just waited. I'll only buy day 1 full price if it's extremely polished/complete and I see lots of good impressions from sources I trust.

I'll still buy the majority of my games on sale or used.

What this will most likely do paradoxically is make me more inclined to get special editions for the games I do want.

What's $99 or $150 if I'm already paying close to $100

I've been picky for a while now, since the £60-70 tag. Before I'd be buying and playing games every other week at lower points I was willing to take a punt on titles but now I'm a little older, got a family and less time to game than I did when I was younger, pair that with current price points and im a lot more selective with what I buy.
