Must admit it was slightly awkward watching that with my 8 months pregnant wife. We both really liked the show tho and neither of us were triggered.
The people complaining are only making things worse for those who actually suffer from PTSD. I mean, before some movies or shows would say “This contains adult content that isn’t suitable for some audiences. Viewer discretion is advised.” But now it’s like they want it to say “This has rape in it, better not watch!” Which completely defeats the purposePTSD is a real thing as are PTSD "triggers."
But we can't really expect TV shows to give us some list of possible triggers as they often can't even be guessed... and I can't help but think many complaining don't actually have PTSD or anything close to it.
Either way it's a "you" problem, and you need to deal with it yourself, as it's unrealistic to avoid triggers to your PTSD.
But I also think some of you could have a bit more empathy towards PTSD sufferers.
My mother-in-law was six months pregnant carrying my other half, when she watched Alien at the cinema back in 1979.Must admit it was slightly awkward watching that with my 8 months pregnant wife. We both really liked the show tho and neither of us were triggered.
what bothers me more are the spoilers in those trigger warnings on netflix. SUICIDE! Spoils the goddamn episode.Protect me censors, you are my only hope.
Generally curious if this is effective or will people still watch and then complain, potentially more so since they know for definite the content is problematic? I see these warnings plastered all over Sky/NowTV.Protect me censors, you are my only hope.
There have been multiple times, particularly since COVID started, where I'll see a headline somewhere about what "Twitter is talking about" only to see, like, ten people talking about whatever the headline says. It's crazy, ten people with some insane opinion isn't a news story and never should be.Also, when you read the article it's basically just one person talking about their reaction. News outlets need to stop treating a few people on Twitter being upset as a news story.
As a man with a dick, that scene was deeply traumatic to me and I felt my personal agency was violated by them not warning me that a dick was going to be chopped off in this show.twitter yells at cloud, what else is new
The scene is meant to be traumatic. It's to show that during medieval times, childbirth is quite dangerous and that the woman didn't have control of her body. Aemma never had a choice whether she wanted a C-section. Plus the episode had way more gore with the dick chopping, arm breaking, face to the axe, but the c section is where they draw the line, lol wut.
Tell her to give you an heir or you'll ditch her, marry your sister, aunt, or cousin and do it the Targaryen WayMust admit it was slightly awkward watching that with my 8 months pregnant wife. We both really liked the show tho and neither of us were triggered.
I think you’re right, but the lack of empathy is, I think, a response to crying wolf with this stuff. If everything is racist or sexist then nothing is, if everything is triggering then nothing is, etc…people just get tired of trying to bend over backwards for every little inconvenience people wail about as oppression.PTSD is a real thing as are PTSD "triggers."

Frankly pretty much all of present-day media is simply disgusting and repugnant. Unfortunately it has degraded so slowly for the past two decades, with the commercially driven "push the envelope" need to shock more and more, that people just swim in that garbage now and barely notice it. There's scarcely a single show I can tolerate anymore... Better Call Saul was the only recent series I was watching, now there's nothing worth watching again.I didn't see a single tv show for over a decade and when I came back it was like everything had to be agonizing and dark and horrible. I don't watch shows very often at all. Maybe twice a year. When one is in a hurry to show people suffering and dying in awful ways I'm done. So no trigger warning for me. I can handle turning it off and somehow manage to not be traumatized.

I think there is a difference between empathy for victims of trauma and demanding trigger warnings for various scenarios someone may be offended by or cause emotional distress.I think you’re right, but the lack of empathy is, I think, a response to crying wolf with this stuff. That’s not an excuse for not having empathy toward people who have actual trauma to deal with, it’s more an indictment of the idiots who try to co-opt legit issues because they want attention.
Seems like a fun lighthearted show.A dude got his dick chopped off, a man got his face caved in with an axe, and multiple people had limbs forcefully amputated. All with full gore. We literally saw the chopped off dick. We watched the guys hand flop off onto the ground.
But yeah the birth scene where there was just a lot of screaming and a lot of blood was the one that went too far.
Okay.
Oh boy, imagine a repository of traumatic experiences for millions of people being stored in TOTALLY TOP SECURE cloud server somewhere…He thinks streaming services should try "tailor the warnings to each user, possibly even recommending what to watch based on a user's specific triggers".
No sex? Please, no, I'm tired of these spoilers each time a TV show starts:
Underrated post here.Daily reminder that trigger warnings don't even work or may in fact cause more trauma:

It's purely performative nonsense.
I'm seeing more and more calls for entertainment to come with trigger warnings. Many universities in the UK are adding trigger warnings to classic literature to avoid students getting upset or offended.
It's all so fucking tiresome. What's next? Calls to ban certain works of art or entertainment because they don't stand up to modern sensibilities?
