Some Dev Quotes from Edge on PS3/X360

They aren't mandating anything. I think most devs will support 720p as default though. Hopefully HS and some others give us a taste of 1080p though. PEACE.

Unless you have information more current than this interview, they haven't decided yet..

EGM: Microsoft's basically saying all their Xbox 360 games will be 720p; they're kind of making it mandatory. Is there going to be any kind of mandatory resolution for publishers for PS3?

KH: That's something that we're going to have to discuss internally and decide, and obviously talk to our publishing partners to see how they feel, as well.

I dont think anyone is suggesting the xbox 360 hardware is superior, just that the difference between them will be minimal. Common sense seems to dictate that 4 months of lead time will not make a huge difference. Power and graphics will play a huge role, MS and Sony know this, the odds of one unexpectedly blowing the other out of the water are slim to none. Certian people continue to try to suggest that ps3 will have have a huge advantage technology wise when almost EVERYTHING we have seen and heard says they wont.

Ok, then thats just Xbox 360 damage limitation guys realising they can't get away with '360 is more powerful', so they've retreated to the 'power difference is minimal' bunker.

We simply don't know, and won't for quite some time, until both machines have solid playable code, or some mouthy, multiplatform, respected developer speaks up.

People saying 'power difference will be minimal' are clutching at the same straws that the 'oh PS3 will be way more powerful' people are

I would agree with that if the consoles werent launching so close together. Sony/Nvidia doesnt have access to some ultra secret technology that will blow the competition away. They are limited by the same things MS is. The idea that the power difference will be minimal is much more believable given the way technology works. Plus the prices of both consoles will most likely be the same at launch.

Possibly, but the GPU is only part of the equation. CELL Vs XeCPU, different RAM types and configurations etc, all add to the ebb and flow of comparative power, and we know little about them.

And PSX held up pretty well against N64 and was quite a bit better than Saturn at 3D (desparately hoping the specific comparison will save me from hordes of Saturn 2D winged demons :P )

Agreed. RSX and Xenos will obviously have some strengths over each other but in the long run I think the difference (if any) will come down to what fruit CELL vs. XeCPU will bear. Not just graphically but in overall interactivity and realism. And that'll be a ways away considering the difficulty developers on both platforms will face adjusting to multi-core architectures. At least 2 years into the cycle before either machine has code that really makes it sing I bet. And it'll definitely be the exclusives and 1st party devs that end up pulling the real strings for either system. Im already prepared to throw multi-platform completely out of the window for any future comparisons. The big multi-plat devs will be riding the GPUs so much the differences will probably be moot more often than not.

100% agree with you.

Unfortunately for my wallet, its the first party & exclusives that make each console worth buying :(

Yep. I agree also.

I've said it before. Multi format next gen games will look the same on PS3 and 360.

The differentiator on next gen will not be about graphics. It will be about services and connectivity. Online gaming/ trading and building gaming communities.

True, but I feel it more about games as well.

X360 I believe has a better line up.

I still think thats a gen off, I may be wrong but I don't see it truely becoming mainstream till 2010.

yep, i think so too. the majority of gamers will not care about online, community, trading and such...

range of products, new gaming markets and visuals will just as these gen dominate next gen.
