SOA can't include the Japanese Mega CD soundtrack due to... licensing issues?

What.

SEGA OF JAPAN MADE THE **%*+#F-t-t-t-t-tkkkkaa*%*#%%@ SOUNDTRACK.

Licensing issues on internal content?
Because music is generally owned by the composer and licensed on a per-use basis.

Of course, when people say licensing issues, they usually mean they weren't willing to spend the money.

Funny, I feel the same way about their game.

I am too, but it's pretty damn obvious now that we're not getting anything. Didn't the Japanese version also have Vectorman 1 + 2? Also Vectorman 2 wasn't nearly as good.
Boo! They should consider adding Comix Zone and The Ooze at least since they weren't in the US Mega Collection. I think adding Ecco 1-2 and/or TJ&E 1-2 would make sense too honestly... both are way better than Vectorman 1-2. :/

Vectorman instead of Streets of Rage? It's like SoA is trying to ruin this compilation. They have dozens of Genesis games that are better than freaking Vectorman.

Guess there's always the import version.

Vectorman 1 & 2 are already in the Japanese version, so they're not the "replacement" for the SOR games.

The bonus disc idea sounds best, frankly. But that's probably more work than they want to bother with.

What? No. Really? There's no evidence of that on mine...

It's not directly listed, you have to input a code:

Different versions of Sonic 1
In Sonic Mega Collection, the version of Sonic 1 you play is the Japanese version.

You can play the US version by pressing, on the info screen for Sonic 1, Up, Z, Down, Z, Left, Z, Right, Z. The American version differs in that the clouds don't move in Green Hill, there's no wavy water in Labyrinth, and the level select is in the wrong order.

To play another Japanese version, which fixes the bug which makes you continue to take hits when you hit spikes even if you're flashing and supposed to be temporarily invincible, hit, on the same screen, Z, Z, Z, Z, Z, Z, Z, Z, Z, Up, Down, Left, Right.

Tried the codes myself, they do unlock different versions.

well, heres the reply to the email i sent informing SOA that i felt thier decision was poor in not including the SoR games:
Dear Mr. Walker,

Thank you for e-mailing Sega Technical Support.

Sonic Gems has only Sonic games in the collection. Streets of Rage is not a Sonic game.

Sincerely,

-Sandi

:lol
but what does that say for the Vectorman being included then?

I wonder if being an SOA-developed title, maybe that had something to do with Vectorman being unlockable. That game's absolutely brilliant, but I really dislike the sequel. I also didn't understand why they made his voice more robotic and cold, and much less appealing

I got the same response. :(

Is it so much to ask to have SegaSonic Arcade and Knuckles Chaotix in there too? The only non-Sonic game I care about being in there is Nights.

Couldn't resist posting this...

Notice that I have the entire soundtrack, including the "Past" songs which weren't CD audio tracks but actually amazing Genesis/SegaCD chip music. :D
