What rankings did you get? This is like saying "I played this racing game and I did reach the goal without ever using any tricks at all, it's almost as if it played itself" when you just reached the goal as the last driver, after having been pushed back onto the course several times.
Can't remember. Your metaphor is a bit broken though. It's more like: "I played a racing game and got first place against the computer in everything without trying." To that, what you're saying is: "Well, the point of the game is to play the time trials over and over again till you do a pixel perfect run!"
Honestly, I've never been a fan of trying to speed run. I do not find speed running fun, and I think the idea that you need to speed run the game for it to be good is a bit silly. I preferred the old games, like Sonic 3 & Knuckles, or Sonic 2, where the game was challenging and full of platforming fun even if you didn't want to speed run the game.
Telling me that the games are good and that they're just not approaching them right is basically telling me that "Oh who cares about how the old games played and if you thought they were fun? The new games are great because you can play my way; it doesn't matter what the old games were like or that you had more fun with those."
To each his own taste, but that said, I'd say a game that is only "good" if you ignore the default rules and impose your own meta-game goals like speed speed-running is inferior to the same game that allows for that just the same, as well as being of "good" quality by playing the game normally. More than that, telling someone that they're not enjoying the game right because they're playing the game as it's presented, when the game can be presented in such a way as to be good either way, is a bit ridiculous and insulting.

Too Long, Didn't Read:The old games didn't require trying to speed run to be fun. Don't imply that someone isn't approaching the newer games, like Rush, the right way because they don't speed run and ace all the levels. The argument makes no sense because the old games didn't need it, so you're basically saying "play the games my way."
