Sonic Lost World Wii U Exclusive

I still have nightmares about Sonic Heroes, mostly about that fucking piece of shit too-bad-for-Power-Rangers intro song.

Edit: Dat meltdown, somebody sent that to Shawn Elliot.

Holy shit this needs a dramatic reading!

wow.. thats really cringe worthy

I think we may have to re-evaluate the word fanboy and forge a new term, "hateboy". There seem to be a lot of them around lately. Not really fanboyism if you just hate another plattform, no matter what.

The comments in that petition are hilarious.

SEGA has shot themselves in the foot over this one. I've been fighting the good fight for over a decade now helping Sonic reach popularity on consoles. I bought 15 new copies of Sonic The Hedgehog On the Xbox 360 (because that's the company SEGA publicly supported at first, not the PlayStation who kicked SEGA out of the market in the first place) to support the blue blur. 15! That's just the one game. Over the course of these last few years, I've purchased over 150 brand new Sonic games to help them win this battle. I didn't regret that money before because it was done in the name of service. When SEGA was forced to make Wii games, I looked the other way. I allowed you that free pass so you could give them horrible titles and steal all of the Nintendo fan's cash so you could make better games for us. It is clear now that I'm the only one who gives a shit about the war anymore. SEGA isn't about sticking it to the man anymore. It is NO LONGER ABOUT VALUES.

Now Nintendo has stolen everything we've loved and cherished: The Blue Blur. Within years, Nintendo is going to retcon the entire Comic and TV series out of existence just like they with their own games. They're going to take everything that us fans have worked for years to build and ruin it. Good Bye SeGA, you just jumped the Orca.

I like how in the meltdown he mentions that the other 3 platforms all market themselves to a wide audience with games like Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, The Avengers and Sonic.....all 4 of which are on the Wii U

This can't be serious. Dat first sentence...

I don't know what people expect Nintendo to do, not get games people want? How else are they supposed to sell the Wii U? "I don't own or want to own a Wii U. So they better not do anything to make me want a Wii U." It's like the conclusion is being made first, and the rationale follows it...

Deciding upon a conclusion and then cherry picking facts to build an argument is standard procedure here on GAF.

The meltdowns some are having over this has been amazing. Didn't expect it with Sonic because after all there have been exclusive Nintendo platform Sonic games in the past. Not just on the Wii but the GameCube and DS. This isn't new at all. The ones claiming that Sonic fans don't want this is crazy too. Sonic sells best on Nintendo platforms. There is a lot of cross over between Sonic and Mario fans.

I'm glad it's not up to Bayonetta 2 levels. That involved death threats. Some post in places seem like they could get to that point though.

Looking forward to Lost World. Enjoyed Sonic Colors. That it's a Wii U exclusive makes me want to get it even more.

Sega: STOP Exclusive Partnership with Nintendo

The Wii U is a bad console and Sonic's future CANNOT and SHOULD NOT rest in the hands of Nintendo

"One score and a couple of years ago, Yuji Naka and Naotao Oshima brought forth upon this continent a blue hedgehog, conceived with 'tude, and dedicated to the proposition that Nintendo sucks and Sega fucking rules.

But now we are engaged in a great fanboy war, testing whether these fanboys or any fanboys so conceived and so dedicated, can long keep holding dat shit. NeoGAF will little deny, nor soon forget the humor in what we say here, but Sonic the Hedgehog CANNOT, SHOULD NOT, and SHALL NOT perish from TRUE-NEXT GEN CONSOLES."

"PARTY ON, DUDES!"

the best part about colors and generations was how sega responded to the criticisms of unleashed's long ass werehog sections with "yeah but otherwise the game would have been like 6 hours long!" and everybody unanimously answered "100% cool by me!"

I know everybody laughs at Sonic these days, but I really do believe that this is a pretty big deal, and that these games might actually end up being a whole lot better than people are thinking.

I was already going to get a Wii-U for games like Xenoblade, but this may very well further cement my decision.

I can't lie; I'm kinda miffed that this basically takes my PC version away from me, but these melt-downs are on that whole other level. I can't.

Wait is this one game or three ?

The deal is for three games...

Sonic Lost World is one game.
The second is the new Mario & Sonic Olympics.
The third hasn't been revealed yet, but Sumo hinted pretty blatantly they're going to do a Mario/Nintendo Kart vs. Sonic/Sega Allstars Racing game of some sort.

Two out of three, it's obvious why those would stay Nintendo exclusive (even though PC ASRT was godly). Lost World is the only one with seemingly no Mario involvement. But Nintendo themselves might have helped with development?

Ah ok thanks for clarifying that.

Hope the mario /sonic kart game rumor is right .

Someone else mentioned that Nintendo have the publishing rights for sonic , i don't know if thats true but wouldnt that rule out any ps/Xbox/pc sonic
Games full stop ?

But the mario & sonic franchise is published by Nintendo in Japan. That one shouldn't count!

...but it probably does

Just in case it hasn't already been stated in this thread, Hirokazu Yasuhara (the primary designer for the original Sonic games) joined Nintendo in 2012, so this partnership could have easily been predicted.

I've never played a 3D Sonic, but I have a pretty good feeling about Lost World.

The fact that he talked about Mario and Sonic in conjunction with Nintendo publishing three Sonic games would imply it's part of the deal, I would think.

I wonder if Lost World is successful if Sega and Nintendo will continue this arrangement for future Sonic titles. I could imagine Nintendo putting a huge marketing campaign behind Sonic, bigger than Sega's budget could ever allow for.

I don't really see this being a negative for Sega or Nintendo. While I don't think this is the kind of game that will sell people on the console alone (hard to say without seeing it) it might help push people over the edge, or at least get their attention pointed towards the Wii U.

Worst case scenario, it doesn't sell. Wouldn't shock me if Sega has an out in that case and just ports it to the other systems. Hopefully it does well and we actually see the Wii U get a well made exclusive Sonic game.

Lets hope this isn't another Sonic and the Black Knight. Pleased to see it's down for a release this year. Fingers crossed it'll be decent.

Shouldn't be long until we see some gameplay at least.

It could well be a test, and at the right time. If this is successful, Sega could ride out the Hedgehog Engine for another generation, not having to invest in a "Next Gen"-Sonic engine, because these games could ensure alsmot all Sonic and platformer fans will be right there. With Mario, Luigi, Rayman, Yoshi and Sonic (four of which exclusive for the time being), Nintendo seems to be in a good position to make the Wii U the de-facto platformer-console of the next generation.

Excellent :)

For the love of God, just make this an expansion of the Colors/Generations gameplay, Sega. Now isn't the time to attempt radical departures from the best Sonic games since 1994.

Why does it matter?

I just don't see it as good or bad, just people bitter they don't get to play a game and people pleased to see a game on a platform they own.
Because everyone who doesn't own the specific console won't be able to play the game? Because most likely it would have released on multiple platforms if Nintendo didn't open its wallet?

It hurts the overall gaming population and it's the lousiest kind of behavior for a platform-holder to make in attempting to make their console noteworthy.

Would you have liked if some movie theater chain would have paid to screen movie X exclusively at their cinemas, when without said payment it would have screened in any?

So you're against exclusivity in general? I can get behind that.

Seems like Nintendo isn't getting a standard Sonic platformer like Generations but more of an adventure game. Good for variety I guess.

At this point, it seems people have a beef with Nintendo as a whole, doesn't matter if they offer what gamers want.
Of course. Envision this scenario - you're a gawky, overweight 25-year-old who loves Sonic games. You have your fine ass co-worker Jade (like the Reshident Evil gamesh) over for a romantic candlelit dinner in your mother's basement with wine and dancing. Everything is going great, until you two collapse onto a cheeto dust-covered couch from exhaustion after getting your funk on to that sick dance mix someone made of Katamari Damacy on the internet, and she looks at your entertainment center, crammed with hentai DVDs and complete Blu-ray sets of every Joss Whedon show ever made, and stares in disgust at your dusty, seldom played basic model Wii U, peeking out from the back.

"You have a NINTENDO machine?" she asks, condescension dripping from her mouth. You've seen her eyes before, the eyes of a deranged Sega fangirl straight out of the 90s.

Startled, you try and think of something. "No, no! That's my grandma's! I was fixing it for her!" Yeah, that'll work, you think, but it's too late. She's already stormed out of your parents' house, slamming the door to your man cave, leaving you to stare at the poster of a scantily-clad Tifa Lockhart decorating your door.

Having blown this totally realistic and plausible scenario, you fight away your sadness by microwaving a fresh plate of pizza rolls and playing Sonic Lost World on the console you never play.
