I like the way this thread is goin'. Alternative levels:
Sonic 1: Spring Yard (would've went for Star Light Zone, but then I remembered that Spring Yard did an interesting job of making the player realize that Sonic's a bit of a pinball, too... and it's a more interesting stage).
Sonic 2: I honestly think that they went with the right choice here, but I'd go with Oil Ocean too, just for the sake of having a desert level. I would have loved to have seen Casino Night be a full-fledged stage, though.
Sonic CD: Quartz Quadrant (I would've gone with Stardust Speedway if it weren't for the Metal Sonic race)
Sonic 3: Hydrocity Zone (because I want that
Act 2 music, oh yes I do)
Sonic & Knuckles: yes, I know S3&K is one game. My heart wants to say Flying Battery. In fact, you know what, I'm going with my heart on this one. Just because I think some of the stage design would be neat. Oh, and the music's great)
Sonic Adventure: Red Mountain... but I'll say Lost World for the sake of diversity.
Sonic Adventure 2: Metal Harbour because it's a shame that it got omitted the first time around.
Sonic Heroes: *shrug*
Sonic 2006: Er... Kingdom Valley or Radical Train, I guess? Thinking about many of the stage designs in Sonic 06 in general, I'm not even sure any of them would be replicated in such a fashion to make them more interesting. I guess Radical Train would be interesting since train levels in
good games are generally good (see: Turtles in Time, Mega Man X4, etc.).
Sonic Unleashed: Jungle Joyride Day/Night / Dragon Road Day/Night because man, I love Unleashed so I dunno what to pick.
Sonic Colors: Aquarium Park (because DRILL! and some of the best underwater sections in a platformer I've ever played). But if we were going for diversity, Sweet Mountain wouldn't be too bad.
I've watched the pokecapn LP so many times or have had it running in the background while doing other things that I don't think I could ever play that level and not hear pokecapn or Medibot yells.
I think qq more and I were talking about that very stage once and quoted most of the Pokecapn/Medibot/KFJ/Kaz lines word-for-word last week. It was just pretty awesome how that LP just became the go-to source for the game and the humour.
Speaking of LPs, I'm stupid and neglected to include any Proton Jon stuff in the LP thread. I probably should add that when I wake up later! Fix the OP too, since it's verging on 24000 characters again.
So for City Escape I'll toss in Live and Learn or It Doesn't Matter. Crisis City gets His World, while Rooftop Run gets Endless Possibility. All the other zones keep their original music, and maybe get some Sonic Boom thrown in from time to time for variety.
For the bosses however, it's all Live and Learn all the time. Just too perfect.
Hey! That's what I do, too (I love Live and Learn; it's one of my fave Sonic songs ever). Though I like to throw on What I'm Made Of, Knight of the Wind, Reach for the Stars, and Un-Gravitify in there. Too bad Free isn't the Crush 40 version. Ahhhh,
I Am... All Of Me is a guilty pleasure as well.
I dunno. I like the Crush 40 stuff a lot of the time. Heck, I like a lot of the Sonic vocal songs most of the time. They're cheesy, yeah, but they're fun to listen to in terms of melody and all of the different styles incorporated in the songs throughout the years.

As an aside: qq more, Seven Force, and I were looking over at the
old Generations announcement thread last week (I think? Or two weeks before), checking out how
hopeful everyone was over the 3DS version. Up until RobbieNick's interview with Lord Iizuka-sama where he basically said, "LOL Game Gear", and then everyone's hopes were dashed.
Iizuka said:
The 3DS version is a celebration of Sonic’s portable history. As such it only makes sense that we keep that history on a portable system... Game Gear? (Laughter) No. For the 3DS we wanted to go with systems of more recent memory. So we are more focused on levels from the GBA and DS.
And none of it ended up being true!
That was when a bunch of us were junior members going on members too, including myself. Good times.
Also, this post:
If I remember correctly, Aaron Webber told me that the 3DS version is only about 10% done and is still being tweaked heavily so there's some hope. I personally don't believe the classic level was done. It was way to linear and short. Especially compared to the modern version in the same demo.
SIX MONTHS.
I remember the E3 demo looking like complete crumbs, too. Especially this bit that I had to complain about:

Was this posted? Someone got footage of the Sonic 3 Final Boss in the 3DS version at E3. (With direct feed audio) Doomsday Zone got a remix, apparently.

That arrangement sounds slightly off. Ewwww... and it sounds not... good... when it kicks in. The synth sounds generic, quite unexpected given how Colours DS's soundtrack was like. It's disappointing, really. Odd that they didn't use the Final Boss theme from Sonic 3, though. That fanfare is bad synth as well. It's not grating, but it's very dissatisfying.
The boss fight itself seems boring, consisting of waiting...it's like they slowed the game down dramatically. Its pace does not fit with the music's tempo at all, and seems rather disjointed.
Lordy, I'm so glad they changed that to
this.
