There are fucking random spikes and projectiles everywhere. Amy is horrible. Also, Egg Rocket. Put the two together and I'm stuck for an hour.

I feel like the game may have been balanced around Sonic, as I actually had a harder time finishing the game with Tails and Knuckles. Amy... forget about it.

I've always felt that the game was designed around Amy. Slower gameplay keeps you out of Dimps' crummy trap placement, and she's got better reach and vertical mobility than anyone else for boss killing.

Ohhh...I kind of liked the options music too.

I remember as a kid for the longest, neither me, my brother or my dad could ever get past Toxic Caves.

The composition was pretty good but the instruments kind of hurt my ears. Which is weird because it never bothered me as a kid. lol

The further I've ever gotten in Spinball as a kid was the 3rd level. I forgot what it was like... it's been yearssss since I've last played it. I was typically stuck at Lava Powerhouse though, so I've only been to the 3rd stage once.

ps the lava boss was very creepy

That one creeped me out more than Robo-Scorpion.

The Machine is super confusing, I always stocked up on a billion lives for it. I've gotten to the last level...talk about a difficulty jump...

I like The Machine because it's a map with the least number of places you can screw up on. Like, it's literally two spots at the center-bottom, if my memory serves me correctly. Everywhere else just sends you lower into the stage. This is in contrast to Toxic Caves, which has death pits in all of the substages. Not sure about Lava Powerhouse. The Showdown is just Hell in general.

The Machine's my favorite map of the game, honestly.

I wish there were more variation in terms of level themes for the game. I want to use the Diamond Dust Zone song so much but there was no level that fits. :<

I don't see the problem! I played Emerald Hill while fighting Egg Dragoon once :D

...and it somehow made me win. I don't know how or why because all it did was made the boss fight feel awkward with such unfitting music.

Fun fact: YOU'RE A MONSTER

(I fucking love Toxic Caves but Chemical Plant is perfection)

Whaaaat. Replacing Chemical Plant with anything is sacrilege in my book.

Unless it's Live and Learn or Endless Possibility.

Chemical Plant is overated. ( ≖‿≖)

saying things are overated is against my philosophy, and Nocturnowl may call me out now.

Honestly, as far as stages go, I only change the songs if there is a vocal song I like tied to that game.

So for City Escape I'll toss in Live and Learn or It Doesn't Matter. Crisis City gets His World, while Rooftop Run gets Endless Possibility. All the other zones keep their original music, and maybe get some Sonic Boom thrown in from time to time for variety.

For the bosses however, it's all Live and Learn all the time. Just too perfect.

I remember changing all of the classic act songs for the post-genesis levels:

Green Hill
Splash Hill (for laughs)
Emerald Hill
Neo Green Hill
Leaf Forest

Chemical Plant
I'm not sure if I've ever messed with this level

Sky Sanctuary
Same above

Speed Highway
Starlight Zone

City Escape
Route 99

Seaside Hill
Angel Island
Hydrocity

Crisis City
Stardust Speedway (US)

Rooftop Run
I forgot lol

Planet Wisp
Death Egg (I kind of wish Scrap Brain was there)

I haven't unlocked too many songs and most of the songs were used for the classic acts. Whenever I get back to my PC playthrough I'll mess with the music more.

Also I remember using Toxic Caves too... but I forgot which level :lol

I wanted Radical Highway, but would have also taken Green Forest or White Jungle. Still love City Escape, though!

Oh, I love Live and Learn a lot too. Sonic Adventure 1-2 have my favorite music in gaming.

Sonic 2006: Radical Train

I've watched the pokecapn LP so many times or have had it running in the background while doing other things that I don't think I could ever play that level and not hear pokecapn or Medibot yells.

Honestly I thought the level selection for Generations was spot on with my personal tastes, but if I had to change something, I would change Sonic 1 to Scrap Brain Zone like you and include Sonic 3 representation with Ice Cap, while dropping Sonic Heroes altogether in the process.

Oh, I love Live and Learn a lot too. Sonic Adventure 1-2 have my favorite music in gaming.

My friend had the Sonic Adventure 2:Battle CD soundtrack and I was always so jealous. Would listen to it whenever I had the chance to, I adore that entire soundtrack as cheesy as it is.

Sonic 1: Starlight
Sonic 2: Aquatic Ruins
Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Ice Cap

Sonic Adventure 2: Pyramid Cave
Sonic Heroes: Mystic Mansion
Sonic 2006: Radical Train (as awful as that level was, I'd love to see a train level)
Sonic Unleashed: Chun-Nan
Sonic Colours: Asteroid Coaster

Would've been a neat post-game special or DLC. Kind of a shame it would've been too costly to make.

It also secretly irked me that most of the stages in Generations were city based...
I like the city levels in the series, but some more variety would've been nice.

It's not their fault most of the city levels were the best!

Or is it.

For SA1 I think they could have gone with Windy Valley or Final Egg.

Sonic Colours: Aquarium Park

Dark Schala

Eloquent Princess
I like the way this thread is goin'. Alternative levels:

Sonic 1: Spring Yard (would've went for Star Light Zone, but then I remembered that Spring Yard did an interesting job of making the player realize that Sonic's a bit of a pinball, too... and it's a more interesting stage).

Sonic 2: I honestly think that they went with the right choice here, but I'd go with Oil Ocean too, just for the sake of having a desert level. I would have loved to have seen Casino Night be a full-fledged stage, though.

Sonic CD: Quartz Quadrant (I would've gone with Stardust Speedway if it weren't for the Metal Sonic race)

Sonic 3: Hydrocity Zone (because I want that Act 2 music, oh yes I do)

Sonic & Knuckles: yes, I know S3&K is one game. My heart wants to say Flying Battery. In fact, you know what, I'm going with my heart on this one. Just because I think some of the stage design would be neat. Oh, and the music's great)

Sonic Adventure: Red Mountain... but I'll say Lost World for the sake of diversity.

Sonic Adventure 2: Metal Harbour because it's a shame that it got omitted the first time around.

Sonic Heroes: *shrug*

Sonic 2006: Er... Kingdom Valley or Radical Train, I guess? Thinking about many of the stage designs in Sonic 06 in general, I'm not even sure any of them would be replicated in such a fashion to make them more interesting. I guess Radical Train would be interesting since train levels in good games are generally good (see: Turtles in Time, Mega Man X4, etc.).

Sonic Unleashed: Jungle Joyride Day/Night / Dragon Road Day/Night because man, I love Unleashed so I dunno what to pick.

Sonic Colors: Aquarium Park (because DRILL! and some of the best underwater sections in a platformer I've ever played). But if we were going for diversity, Sweet Mountain wouldn't be too bad.

I've watched the pokecapn LP so many times or have had it running in the background while doing other things that I don't think I could ever play that level and not hear pokecapn or Medibot yells.
I think qq more and I were talking about that very stage once and quoted most of the Pokecapn/Medibot/KFJ/Kaz lines word-for-word last week. It was just pretty awesome how that LP just became the go-to source for the game and the humour.

Speaking of LPs, I'm stupid and neglected to include any Proton Jon stuff in the LP thread. I probably should add that when I wake up later! Fix the OP too, since it's verging on 24000 characters again.

Hey! That's what I do, too (I love Live and Learn; it's one of my fave Sonic songs ever). Though I like to throw on What I'm Made Of, Knight of the Wind, Reach for the Stars, and Un-Gravitify in there. Too bad Free isn't the Crush 40 version. Ahhhh, I Am... All Of Me is a guilty pleasure as well.

I dunno. I like the Crush 40 stuff a lot of the time. Heck, I like a lot of the Sonic vocal songs most of the time. They're cheesy, yeah, but they're fun to listen to in terms of melody and all of the different styles incorporated in the songs throughout the years.

As an aside: qq more, Seven Force, and I were looking over at the old Generations announcement thread last week (I think? Or two weeks before), checking out how hopeful everyone was over the 3DS version. Up until RobbieNick's interview with Lord Iizuka-sama where he basically said, "LOL Game Gear", and then everyone's hopes were dashed.

Iizuka said:
The 3DS version is a celebration of Sonic’s portable history. As such it only makes sense that we keep that history on a portable system... Game Gear? (Laughter) No. For the 3DS we wanted to go with systems of more recent memory. So we are more focused on levels from the GBA and DS.
And none of it ended up being true!
KuGsj.gif

That was when a bunch of us were junior members going on members too, including myself. Good times.

Also, this post:
If I remember correctly, Aaron Webber told me that the 3DS version is only about 10% done and is still being tweaked heavily so there's some hope. I personally don't believe the classic level was done. It was way to linear and short. Especially compared to the modern version in the same demo.
SIX MONTHS.

I remember the E3 demo looking like complete crumbs, too. Especially this bit that I had to complain about:

Seven Force said:
Was this posted? Someone got footage of the Sonic 3 Final Boss in the 3DS version at E3. (With direct feed audio) Doomsday Zone got a remix, apparently.

That arrangement sounds slightly off. Ewwww... and it sounds not... good... when it kicks in. The synth sounds generic, quite unexpected given how Colours DS's soundtrack was like. It's disappointing, really. Odd that they didn't use the Final Boss theme from Sonic 3, though. That fanfare is bad synth as well. It's not grating, but it's very dissatisfying.

The boss fight itself seems boring, consisting of waiting...it's like they slowed the game down dramatically. Its pace does not fit with the music's tempo at all, and seems rather disjointed.

Lordy, I'm so glad they changed that to this.

Actually, yes, Windy Hill WOULD be better. Time for adjustments:

Sonic 1: Scrap Brain
Sonic 2: Mystic Cave
Sonic CD: Quartz Quadrant
Sonic 3: Ice Cap Zone
Sonic & Knuckles: Lava Reef (dat fire/ice contrast)
Sonic Adventure: Windy Hill
Sonic Advance: Angel Island
Sonic Adventure 2: Metal Harbour
Sonic Heroes: Bingo Highway
Sonic Advance 3: Route 99
Sonic Rush: Dead Line
Sonic 2006: Radical Train
Sonic Unleashed: Jungle Joyride
Sonic 4: uuhhhhhh
Sonic Colours: Tropical Resort
