That makes sense, I wonder when a ps5 game will come over to other stores? So far only PS4 games, I wonder if they will take a few years to come over or wait to end of gen.

Destiny will. Future IPs remain to be seen.
Calling them independent doesn't mean anything. Bethesda and Activision are also going to remain independent.

Multiplatform is fine as long as they realize there’s still value in making releases feel special. Right now there’s a lot of attention on the Steam Deck, they should go past getting their titles verified and also promote they have a custom profile for the Deck with settings tailored to Performance and Quality.
With EGS they should make one of their titles free for the week since EGS customers are constantly thirsty for free shit.
Also they could easily throw the upcoming PS1/PSP games on PC as well in conjunction with GOG.

Sony is about money and they saw being strict exclusive isn't going to be lucrative anymore since the costs of making videogames are significantly higher than it was years ago. Just look at the end product t of Sony exclusives today and compare all the money that went into it to a product from PS2/PS3 days and you'll easily see where the huge step up in financial support is required. That curve is NOT linear.
People need to stop thinking that events in time are strictly linear. Our universe doesn't work that way. Just because things worked in the past doesn't mean those same exact things will work today.

When it comes to Bungie they will probably release their games on Xbox. However they will be more selective with PlayStation Studio titles. It’s what I see happening in the future.

They made more profits in 2020 from their PS division in 2020 than they did in the entire PS2 era while releasing an expensive console that was sold for a loss.
Their profits are already higher than they have ever been. They make more money from royalties, PS+ subs, Digital sales than they ever have in the past. 46 mllion paid PS+ subs. They didnt need to go multiplatform. This is just greed.

Bungie isn't a first party studio in the sense that it will operate outside of PS Studios umbrella. Your exclusives will be better off for it from a financing standpoint imo.

And they will make even more money going multiplat. All the things you mentioned are new ways of making more money. Of course they would make more profits than times ago. During the PS2 era, they had no such revenue generators like digital sales and PS+ subs.

Never, Bethesda literally showed them what happens same with Rockstar. Steam is too entrenched at this point to try and do something like that. Maybe the goal is that in the long term in having their own launcher and offering it also on steam. Be cool if cross save worked on Playstation PC launcher with trophies and stuff like that.
But they have such a great relationship with Valve right now, I doubt they want to take a hit of instant sales/money in releasing their games on steam.

VFX is right. Microsoft/Activision proves that status quo has been thrown out the window. Industry consolidation means that sony has to secure large multiplatform developers under their brand in order to maintain the exclusives we love. This isn't a bad thing. The strategy goes towards making sure AAA exclusives from PS Studios remain financially viable.

No they will not. Their first party sales are a tiny part of their overall revenue. They make maybe 2-3 first party games a year and sell 5 million a year for each. Thats max $1 billion in revenue out of the total $25 billion in revenue they make from their playstation division. Their main source of revenue is those 46 million PS+ subs spending $60 a year. It is the 30% cut from all digital sales from the PSN store. It is the 10% royalties from the hundreds of millions of third party games they sell ever year. It's about keeping their players in their eco system
The moment they go multiplatform, they give everyone the incentive to go to someone else's eco system and they lose their biggest moneymakers.

Microsoft CEO was saying Xbox recently gained market share vs PlayStation.
With no exclusives.
Every Xbox game is PC day 1. Yet the system sells. The buyers don’t care.
So, telling Jimbo why true exclusives matter would be a hard sell.

-We knew PS Studios will continue focused on PS only games while having separate teams to port some old games to PC
-We knew SIE will bring some of their brands to mobile gaming and that somewhere in the future their cloud gaming will be playable on smartphones and tablets
-We knew PS will use their IPs in movies and tv shows
And well, once they get rid of the chips issue PS5 will break all records and will eat market share for breakfast.

Yes, they said Bungie will be under SIE but outside PS Studios. Bungie will be full multiplatform day one and PS Studios will focus on PS exclusives, some of them being ported years later to PC.
That only meant that for some reason during a quarter or two they got more chips to produce consoles than Sony. It will be compensated with other quarters where Sony will be the one getting more chips.
