Sony Aims To Sell 15 Million PS5 Units This Year, but Is Shifting Focus to Monthly Active Users

Maybe just maybe stop removing games off your live sub service all the while putting shitty ones?

Yeah, it does seem like the PS+ tiers content grows steadily worse while the price increases. Premium especially is dire. So many good games exist on PS1/PS2/PSP yet the amount of games in that section is laughably bad

How does that mean that? Its just talking about the sales figures of a current console vs one that is like 20 odd years old.....
Because the Switch is a current console that is selling those numbers, meaning there is a high selling alternative in the console market to PlayStation

Just one man's opinion but I'm not a fan of Sony's recent directions. They are clearly juicing their actual audience with nonsense pricing to access multiplayer in my opinion. They seem more concerned with growth and trends than fostering their existing audience to me. And now they're focused on the metrics championed by a competitor who needed to spent like $80B to "compete" (a/k/a concede and go third party).

They're sitting pretty right now with almost no competition in the console sphere for the type of games they put out. But if someone with brand loyalty like Apple ever jumps into this space, either from scratch of by buying an eco-system that someone else might be willing to part with since they are 3rd party anyway pretty much, Sony might wish they did a few things differently.

It's not an alternative if you wanna play games that are on PS but not on Switch. The same applies to Nintendo games not being on PS.

Well, to grow or even sustain that MAU they need to sell at least 15/16 million consoles yearly.

And heading to the future, create a multi generational ecosystem between PS5/Pro, the alleged new PSP compatible with PS4/5, and PS6.

Didn't you hear? The SW2 is going to be the primary partner for 3rd party games this gen and the next. At least that's what some people are championing around here already.

Yet, because SIE want big growth in markets like China, where PC dominates, they probably want to continue with their PC porting strategy, but for whatever reason never just...made that a regional effort vs. pushing for global PC support?
One has to consider that Microsoft has had an aggressive PC strategy for most of 10 years at this point, and it hasn't helped the sales of their games or their consoles, which are and were selling worse than ever even pre-Gamepass, let alone post. Europe, America, China, India, it has absolutely not helped them in any region in any way.

If there ever comes a point when the Chinese audience's gaming diet isn't a closed rotation of League, Genshin and Chinese mobile gacha, it would behoove PlayStation to be in a position where their hardware is protected.

Not necessary. There are other alternatives like PC, streaming or other platforms.

Why are you even asking this?

I log on to gaf and see mentions from you and DenchDeckard DenchDeckard in two different threads where Sony have just announced good results and are on course to comfortably cross 100m sales for the console.

Meanwhile you guys are prepping to move to "Xbox PC". As much as you wish it were the case, we are not the same.
Fucking "Xbox PC," that's the cringest brand cuckhold marching orders™ ever to propagate on here.

Yes that is how competition between platforms works. By offering "alternative" games and features you can't get elsewhere. Not by being a carbon copy with no meaningful exclusives (which was the Xbox strategy).

No it won't.
Just like Steambox and SteamDeck didn't take off.
Disagree. I see steam as pushing beyond their ecosystem with these attempts but msft could potentially build one ecosystem and dictate min specs for next gen across the industry.

It's about the software; if they can wow folks next gen could be interesting.

Shifting focus to MAU you say?

Nope they still have very active PS4 owners & new PlayStation Portal owners so why only focus on PS5 sales?
And they're on PC and have GaaS games. The only thing they haven't echoed from Microsoft is putting their games on Xbox.

But in the interim, my PC is an Xbox, and a PlayStation. The only place you can play horizon and Halo. Until Halo is on PlayStation, of course.

I do have to say, marathon will be on Xbox. So I guess I'm wrong on that account also. It makes sense why they're monitoring users rather than PS five sales.

Shifting to active users means they want to focus on live services. So whoever keeps waiting for Sony to deliver single player games for next gen, will be waiting forever. They are stubborn to become the next Ubisoft.

Why do people like yourself say silly things like this?
