Just to add something other then my first post..

I have only 1 PS5 game that is a paid game (Stellar Blade Physical Disc) all other games are PS4** games or F2P PS5 games.

** Some PS4 games "might" have PS5 awareness patch to boost performance/resolutions, but is not a pure PS5 title.

Yup, I have people who stopping playing FINAL FANTASY, DEATH STRANDING likes, AND basically anything single player and are just playing

WARZONE F2P
APEX F2P
ZZZ F2P
Honkai F2P
Heck even Terra lol

F2P is killing console game sales imo.

Fortnite, Genshin, Apex, CoD Warzone (isn't BR F2P?), and so on.

People could just play these F2P titles and spend would be on MTX and not games. It is a crying shame that this happens, but it is what it is.

Look at the top trending games every month. Games like Roblox, Fortnite and Apex Legends. My daughter is 14. A lot of her friends, this is all they play.
It's because they're live service games. Continuous content and f2p, with the occasional paid entry at lower pricepoint.

As much as Gaf hates it, the times are changing.

Yup. I've asked the question to her friends and my nieces/nephews. The recurring theme is their parents are willing to buy them a console for Christmas or birthday, but outside of Christmas or Birthday, their parents won't buy them games. So outside of 2 days a year to get new games, they only have live service f2p games. Then those whose parents will buy them new games, like myself, my daughter just wants to play Roblox and Fortnite because that's what her friends play. She only plays games outside of those, like R.E.P.O., Phasmophobia, Lethal Company, etc. when she plays with me and my son.

No Astrobot?

Lol actually I forgot I bought Final Fantasy Vii intergrade and Silent Hill 2 earlier this year but they're still in their wrapping.

I'll get to Astrobot at some point. Honestly Playstation( and consoles in general) have taken a backseat to PC/Steam as far as how much time I spend in each ecosystem.

It's not surprising if people are buying less games. Even with non-free-to-play games, studios are waiting longer for sequels than they used to. And selling DLC and other content in the meantime. In some cases, the expansions are pricey enough with enough changes to warrant calling them sales of new games, but I don't think they are recorded as such.

According to the last Sony financial report around 15 Million of PS5 owners has never purchased a game.

"Of course, while the total figure is round and resounding, there is one detail that stands out: of the 80 million consoles sold, less than 15 million correspond to hardware for which no game has been purchased"

How is this site coming to this conclusion? I see they say "Curiously, of the entire console fleet, the ratio of PS5 users who don't even buy games is 0.175 , which corresponds, based on the calculations, to 14 million consoles in total." but I can't find any references to this in the document linked to.

That raito doesn't even make sense to me. What is the 0.175 referring to?

This is bullshit. The author is taking 65.9 million from the number sold in Q1 alone and using that number against the number of PS5 sold the entire generation.

Yep. The author knew what he was doing. That's why he didn't explain how he came to this conclusion.
Glad you were willing to do the work. I glanced through and didn't see it. I wasn't going to invest much time into it since I do not doubt there are people buying consoles for F2P titles.

So whats the conclusion? 20% of ps5 owners aren't enticed by the list of available ps5 exclusives?
The conclusion is that the author compared the lifetime sales of PS5 to the number of PS5/PS4 game sold in the last three months. So it is utter nonsense.

I just pulled the softare sold image from the Sony financials thread.

I don't remember the last time I bought a Sony game.
I buy 3rd party games and thats pretty much how my PS5 gonna be.

Yes but I don't get people buying spending 4/500 on a box to only play a free game, may aswell stay put on old boxes / pc.

You'd expect at least 1 Fifa or similar muck to be bought.

There are people that spend $1000+ to upgrade their PC for games like WOW. Why would a gamer that plays these types of games not want the best experience for the game they play? I'm not even going to think about the ones that drop that kind of money for V-Bucks without much thought.

I did look at that when I first saw this thread and thought that it was a wash regardless of how many were "not buying" games since plenty more are.
