Well, we'll see what that billion dollar investments turned into come E3. Also, PS Eye will come bundled in every box too and I honestly don't see it as a downside either.
Being very careful how he speaks it seems.
he's saying all the right things
It's sad that it's got to the point where it has to be noted
Yep.

Problem with MS they are allocating excessive system resources to THREE fucking operating systems.
3 gigs of Ram
2 CPU cores
10% of the GPU
all on useless non gaming shit. Both these systems are weak already and allocating that many resources to non gaming stuff is insane.
Yep, it's a sad state of affairs that when a new console is released, we have to be reminded that it's aimed at gamers by the manufacturers. I mean shit. How'd the gaming industry get to this point.
A product's success is determined by its perceived value proposition. This differs from its actual value proposition, as marketing can distort it.
The value proposition of the console which is most appealing to the most profitable and largest number of consumers wins. Sony's narrower focus is great and should be its primary focus, but I do hope that they have strong offerings outside of the pure 'play games' space, as the market demands it. Have it enable all major media streaming services, be able to buy and rent movies and music and access all common internet sites like youtube, etc. Expand the trophy system too. Improve the digital store extensively. Make it a convenient way for you to watch content over a network, and easy to set up and use (ie non tech folks can handle it). Allow it to stream content online to you over the net or over wifi.
Do that AND be the better games machine AND market better than you have in the past (crying baby?) and you'll do just fine.
What makes you think it will only play games? The ps3 already does all this stuff you listed. Of course the ps4 will. Sony is simply pointing out, rightly, that you can't sell a games console on things like netflix, youtube, skype, etc. since there are plenty of much cheaper and more mobile devices that can do all of that.
A console's only reason to exist is to play games. If you don't get that part right, it won't sell.
I actually want to see more of the UI!
At the reveal event for a next gen 'gaming' console
Sony = Games, games, games, features related to games and more games + a very good breakdown of the hardware
MS = Tv tv tv tv tv Game game tv tv dealership tv tv and some more tv, game
See the difference? This is no conspiracy. When MS show games at E3 people will praise that too. If Sony messes up at E3 people will go after them too.
However right now we have a clear difference in the message Sony and MS sending out. MS = all in one box
Sony = Video game system first and foremost

This is my #1 issue with X1. The DRM sucks but it wouldn't be a problem for me. I was gung-ho about the 720, was gonna get both of them at launch, and then they daggered us with this bloated OS taking almost half the ram, a quarter of the cores, and 10% of the gpu power of the console. Just unreal.
Eh? Sony's been pushing the PS4 as a gaming console first since it was unveiled. This isn't some new tune they're singing.
I can't turn on my tv with my voice and skype with my mailman while watching Oprah.
Sony = failing the ADHD crowd that refuses to just play a game without doing anything else at the same time.

I'll believe it when they announce they're not putting their Kinect in the box.
Seriously whats with this leap of logic lately?Doesn't that thing detects the pad's position? I doubt it'll be optional.

I echo others sentiments - it's sad that we have to get excited that our future gaming consoles will focus on games.

Yeah and what's your point? PS Eye won't reduce system performance.
They sacrificed performance for "other" features! I am kinda surprised that there isn't a bigger fuss about this here on Neogaf and the various podcasts! The awesome Ingame Chat podcast (go listen!!) touched this subject and as a gamer you should be mad about this. It's gonna bite them in the ass in a few years.

Gaming has matured, I'm expecting financial planning apps and a prostate checker.
He's saying the right things. Now he'll have to show me.
