Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

The hype for that game confuses me at this point.

Ueda doesn't even work at Sony anymore right? It's like being hyped for a Metal Gear that Kojima decided he didn't want to make anymore.
It's the team itself. One man isn't a whole team. But if it's taking them this long to do anything it probably will duke nukem.

The lack of the promised "suspend and resume" feature is becoming embarrassing. This was maybe the biggest new feature in Sony's PS4 reveal. More than seven months after launch it's still missing.

Playing Watch Dogs has really made me hate Sony for not including this feature yet.

I remember reading an article not long ago that said Sony would be altering their conference based on what MS had to show.

Do you think its possible that the "Powers" segment was talked on and replaced a possible big game reveal?

Lets take a look:

1. First the obvious - the whole Powers thing is not THAT big of news.

2. It came very, VERY late in the presentation, we're talking "megaton territory" late.

3. Normally something like this would get a 10-15 second mention and that's it. I believe the whole Powers segment was just shy of 6 minutes.

4. The presenter - Brian Michael Bendis - seemed extremely unprepared and appeared to be desperately searching for how to keep talking and stretch it out.

I firmly believe that this segment, among possibly some others - like the Ratchet movie trailer, the Little Big Planet reveal (just seemed soooo rough and unprepared) were tacked on AND / OR extended in order to fill the conference and make up for gaps left by unrevealed / demonstrated games that they are saving for later.

I think it is very possible. That guy was extremely unprepared. He was just rambling and all they had to show was concept art. It's hard to imagine Sony really wanted to give that much time to something so unfinished. They could have said their speech, mentioned Powers, showed ratchet and moved on.

Then again I also believe Sony had a couple price points they were happy with for the PS4 and didn't set it officially until after MS's press conference last year.

Sorry, I misunderstood.

So MS is missing kids/platform, Action Adventure, horror/thriller and JRPG

don't want to start list war, but the only one legit is a JRPG ( on vita or ps3?)

please open your eyes, the games portfolio is a wash between ps4 and xbone. Different people prefer different games. But I'm sure most on this board will enjoy the game after the game presentation of MS than the 45 min+ dead time of past E3 conferences from any body.

Tales of Hearts is coming to Vita, Tales of Xillia 2 is coming to PS3 and I believe Tales of Zesteria is also PS3. Not to mention they probably have a PS4 Tales game in the work by one of their other Tales studio.

Microsoft had a chance to impress the kids a audience with kinect but since barely anyone like it. Its a wasted opportunity.

I just wanted to correct you that you said MS been all about gaming for the past 2 years. Which is not true.

Those 45 mins of boredom you're talking about had some very great news. I know my friend is excited to get his hand on that white PS4 bundle, and we are both stoked about Ratchet and Clank movie and the POWERS adaptation.

I suspect that Stig's game that was recently canceled was suppose to have a big E3 reveal yesterday. But since it go axed, Sony had to find something else to fill up time.
But they didn't have to do 2 hours. It's not like they're contracted by Spike TV to fill 2 hours with cool content. I agree it felt off and even weirder for me is, that they still had games not at the conference, that are coming out this year, like Driveclub and PlanetSide 2.

The more i think about it, sony really made some smart moves with this holiday by going after the x360 gamer.

Kicks off with destiny, sony partner for a bundle.
Last of us. new game for x360 gamers. The best ps3 game imo...
GTAV. can bring over your x360 online saves.

smart moves imo.

As much as I didn't like the Powers segment. I'm probably going to check out the series now and then watch the show.

Even if most of the people watching didn't like all the "other stuff" they talked about, it's important to mention so that it gets attention and people know it's there. Some things don't sell themselves so you have to do the selling. They really could have done a better job with that though.

Kids audience? come on. So you loved the Kid Kinect stuff back then? Ok, sorry to disappoint you this year. I just want Sony to do what MS does with E3, games after games. But you prefer Sony to have 45 minutes of talking comic and catering to kids audience. Have at it.

Shiiiiiiit I won't be home till like 4 pm hopefully the beta is still up by then.

Also what the fuck guys what's up with the childish fight above? Give it a rest gaf is supposed to be better.

It is really cool... not in Portuguese yet.

I don't know, I didn't read the agreement. I just downloaded it and tried a game.
I did read some part but it was just the Terms of Service... nothing about the Beta... the NDA come on email, no? I didn't received email.

Edit - The game list is a bit off... no big first-party game.

I don't love Kid Kinect stuff. My god, where are you even getting that from? Either you're a terrible troll or really bad at comprehension.

Contrary to popular beliefs. Kids play video games too, my little brother play games as well. And kids game are just as important to a console as your gun-ho bros shooters.

I don't play them, but at least I can understand why having them is important to appeal to a wide audiences. Same with JRPG.

I'm sorry if you think gun-bros are the only gamers in the world. Sometimes people like to play games that doesn't involve shooting or killing something.

thats it then might be selling my vita

keeping some of my games, buying a Vita PS TV instead

it was great fun while it lasted but now its only getting the occasional game the ps tv will replace it and serve as the psone and psp for me but via the t.v and the odd vita game when they release them

and i still have my old psp too

So, this was like the most awesome conference ever. LBP3 before Christmas was a really nice surprise, and I loved the impromptu, genuine gameplay demonstration. Entwined looked awesome and obviously Bloodborne for a big Souls fanboy like me (although I wish we had gotten gameplay for that one). Some of the indies looked quite cool too.

Then Shawn showed up and everything took a nose dive. FTP (maybe that was before he showed up) comics TV series, random boring numbers (Major Nelson's facts™ levels of irrelevance), and PS now stuff that won't come to Europe anytime soon.

And they didn't show off Project Morpheus, which I had been hoping to see.

If not for the middle part this conference would have gotten something like 8/10 but that shit dragged it down quite a bit.

6/10 I'm glad I didn't stay up to watch it.

For comparison:

MS: 5/10
EA: 3/10 (I will probably change this to 2/10 when I make my final rankings)
Ubi: 6/10
Nintendo: 4/10

Yeah, the game list is....meh. Impressive tech though, I expected it to be a lot worse after trying the gaikai demo years back. But the tech has matured and my internet connection is faster than it was then.

Not conference related, but tomorrow we're going to get some news on Everybody's Gone to the Rapture

I actually like this. E3 is usually dead after the conferences take places, but this year it looks like companies have spread details across the entire show.

omg that was so awful. Tons of sequels, rehashes, and so little new that if it was shown I forgot. And then the TV Bit, and then no TLG or Lightning HD collection. The only game I want is AC Unity this fall. I can't believe I spent $400 on this. Joke's on me

Are comments like these real?

So just to be fair here Sony's problem was not bluray lol. That ended up working out very well for them. It was the 2 billion or so they spent on the Cell that was the fuckup. In no way whatsoever would the PS3 be looked at the same without Bluray. It ushered in the whole HD craze and Blurays are selling VERY well at the top right now. It was a great decision in hindsight. I think people are damn shortsighted if they feel differently. The Cell drove that machine up from 499 where it should have been to start to 600.

Literally, the PS3 is STILL my de facto Bluray player. It works better than my PC one. If that hadn't been there I wouldn't have even bought a PS3 for two or three years.

The One is just a poorly thought out product from start to finish imo. Not only do I not see them coming back from this Micro will have to rethink everything. At least Sony set themselves up to learn and grow from their first HD console.

Got around to watching the whole thing now and I gotta say Sony nailed it. I must admit I got a little bit pessimistic after we had those 2-3 bad news surrounding the PS4 for a weak or so but damn they delivered. I skipped the boring part in the middle so maybe that helped because everything else was straight up on point. What made it especially enjoyable is that they only showed 2014-2015 stuff as opposed to MS which had to go beyond, gives me kind of the feeling Sony didn't blow all their load.

A Lightning HD collection, why on earth would you want that?
