Sony Reveals 75% of Players Select Performance Mode

Looks like the cat is out of the bag now. This is a massive stat that shows majority of gamers choose frames over fidelity. Maybe this is a turn towards a 60+ fps standard.
Probably why they decided to charge $700. They figured performance is a lot more important than in the past.

I think it's also evidence that most gamers think the visuals of most games in their performance modes are good enough, which makes this push for AI upscaling and increased ray tracing, rather than increased performance, all the more confusing.

I would imagine the "Most" of those gamers are still playing on old 1080p TV's way back on their couch, so wont pick up on the differences so much.

I sit too close to my CX so perf modes almost always look like dogshit to me 8D but 30fps is too garbage to play at. I'm all in for the Pro at this point.

There are still people who think 30FPS is okay for video games... it blows my mind.

60FPS is still not great, but still much better.

120FPS is where you want to be.

It really shouldn't even be an option. It feels graphic mode only exists so the marketing team can claim that's how the game looks in advertisements.

You love to see it.

Couldn't give a shit about the price, I'll get the Pro if it means playing some of my favorite games only on PS at 4K and 60fps.

I'm way more bothered by the lack of disc drive. That is concerning for the future.

Nonsense, on proper technology like plasma (or CRT), 60fps is perfect.

Not gaming fault LCD and OLED suck.

PS5 is the era of 60fps gaming on a console. All Sony games run at 60fps or more and the vast majority of multiplat games run at 60fps. 30fps has become the very rare exception.

120fps is becoming what 60fps was on PS3.

That's what people used to say about 30FPS ...
You've clearly never played on a Panasonic plasma, or totally forgot CRT. You're settling down for merely 120fps when you would actually need 1000fps to achieve similar result as proper tech. lol

can we go back to that thread where a bunch of people where telling me fidelity is all that matters and most people select that and I'm just weird for preferring Performance mode.

So 75% of gamers are playing at 720p internal resolutions using severely paired down graphics and then they complain that graphics havent improved much.

Shouldve never offered them the choice.

60 fps can largly depends on how you design your game, you will be surprised at how many PS2 games run at 60fps.

We can make a case for PS5 pro being $700 by being the most powerful and advanced console ever. But why in the blue hell did MS charge $600 for Series X?

Every game this gen that had both performance and quality modes i went with the performance mode... even with games like Guardians of the Galaxy (1080p) or FFXVI (60fps only in combat). Hardcore performance mode fan.

TBH in the first 3 years from launch performance modes wasn't at 720p... most of them was much higher.

75% of users also have motion flow switched on their TVs
They also complain about the image quality.
When they select performance they are thinking something else
To most of them

Doesn't surpise me. The only reason we had to put up with 30fps back in previous gen's is because the console companies wanted bullshots for publicity. When you're an actual gamer experiencing the content, the difference between 30 & 60fps is immediately noticable, even to laymen. For me personally, my biggest priorities go in the following order: frames, aliasing, vsync. Everthing beyond that is negotiable.

No sane person would pick a 30fps mode after playing a 60fps mode. It's just non sensical. You can't even use the bells and whistles argument because you lose then the second you turn your controller. Unless you are taking screenshots or doing a trailer like slow turn there is no reason.
