Sony's E3 2014 - What are we all expecting?

MGSV is a wildcard. The PS4/PS3 sales of GZ shows that the userbase is still with Sony platforms. I could see Konami making some deal where TPP is shown at Sony's conference along with debuting footage of the current gen PES. That'd be a good way of giving that series some exposure.
Yeah, MGS is always an odd one. MGR was revealed at an MS conference but didn't even get released on 360 in Japan and despite the MGSV trailer at MS last year GZ kind of tanked on the Xbox platforms. I'm curious if MS will keep trying to have them there just to show it's on the platform of if they'll just give up.

I wish Japanese gaming was in the state where they could show something.

A new Resident Evil could pop up. MGSV will be at one of the conferences. Square could have a slot if they're working on something other than XV and KH3. Then there's NAMCO and Sega who're probably the healthiest Japanese third party devs.

We could end up with a quick surprise like when Dragon's Crown showed up out of nowhere during their E3 2011 conference.

If Sony had plans to release Rime this year, it would've appeared somewhere on that blog. Same with Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. They're clearly lined up to be 2015 titles.

I understand what you're saying, I just think that if Rime was say 50/50 to release this year due to uncertain development progress then Sony would probably leave it off the listing for now rather than have to delay it publicly. They can announce it (along with currently unannounced titles scheduled for release later this year that also aren't on that list) when they are certain it will make it out. Which isn't to say it will release in 2014, just that it could well and there are many reasons why it wouldn't be listed yet.

Alright, fair enough. I'd love to share your optimism in that regard and get my grubby mitts on Rime at some point this year, but by this point I'm certain I'd be disappointed if I did. Hopefully E3 will shed some light.

What I would like, realistically, is one game from Sony Japan Studio (aside from Project Beast, which is a collab. anyway) for the PS4.

So this one Japan Studio game could be The Last Guardian. Or it could be that rumoured JRPG there's been whispers about. But just one title from them that we aren't expecting (which includes TLG)!

You aren't alone. Probably why I'm looking forward to Nintendo the most right now.

I'd also REALLY like to see if there's anything Phantasy Star related or anything at ALL, for us North American fans, from Sega.

It sucks a lot of us who are fans of Japanese games either have to wait for E3 or TGS to see the *major* games. =/

Yeah, I was thinking more about some surprises. RE, MGSV are more sure things. Wonder what Namco and Sega would show.

Final Fantasy XV? Kingdom Hearts 3? Project Beast? The Last Guardian? Gravity Rush 2? All have varying chances of making an appearance.

As excited as I am for KH and FF, I'm not sure if they are close to showing actual gameplay. Those other things I agree with, although Gravity Rush would mean acknowledging Vita.

i also remember from those posts from Sony about what to look forward in 2014 they worded so that the list wasn't set in stone, and that there was more coming they didn't want to talk about that soon.

for all we know Tequilaworks could have just said hey, we aren't comfortable with our title being attached to '2014' just yet. so Sony omitted it from the list. that said, i think it will be a late 2014 or early 2015 title. it NEEDS to be at E3 either way though.

Jesus Christ, lets hope that isn't true.

Well, Sega could show up there to announce translations for a certain two games from a series that deserves a lot more attention than it gets in the west. I'm sure their Japanese studios have to have something else in development that could appeal to the west.

Harada from NAMCO has said that he was hoping to announce two or three games this year. He's already announced Rise of Incarnates for the PC. So, there's at least one or two more games that he'll be involved in. It'd be great if Sony pushed to help them make a PS4 version of Zestiria possible. I think many would be happy with an announcement about that at E3.

Would be nice if we got a "Oh and one more thing" reveal for The Last Guardian or something equally nutty but I bet they will end on PS Now opening up to the public.

I do not expect much of a Japan presence for Sony. They kind of such at rallying Japanese support. Maybe its another SCEJ failing

Im so hyped! I can't take it GAF!!!

They showed gameplay last time, albeit at a separate briefing of their own, but was still gameplay.

Seems like Sony is being really quiet and it seems like a lot of games will be there. I don't sense any complacency as it seems like even though Sony is doing well they are being underestimated.

When are we getting a date for this shit?

Isn't Sony like the last person to put details out regarding their E3 conference?

They need something big to kick off their show and something big to close it. Uncharted 2 in 09 is the benchmark for show starters. TLG should definitely be saved for last. Just for the "Will they/won't they" factor throughout the show. Plus it's too much of subdued game to really start the show. The Order is probably the leading candidate to lead the show. At least of the games that we know exist. It certainly wouldn't be a bad thing if they started the show with something unannounced at the time.

I think it'll open with The Order and close with Uncharted.

Wouldn't be shocked if they opened with Destiny ala Call of Duty at MS.

I'm not sure if there will be an actual demo on stage for Destiny this year since they gave a 10 minute demo last year. If it were a sequel or expansion then I would expect one but another gameplay demo on stage of another part of the same area seems unlikely.

Destiny will probably be the opening demo if I had to guess.

edit. beaten

I honestly don't know what to expect, aside from an extended look at The Order: 1886, first Uncharted 4 "gameplay" and trailers for new third party offerings. Anything else will be gravy.

The Last Guardian reappearing out of nowhere looking better than ever and launching this year would be a fucking dream come true, tbh.

I'd be very surprised if Destiny is the opening demo. We saw the game back in February, then again at E3, and we've had a decent amount of coverage since then. Another third-party candidate is Batman, which could make a big splash.

Sony paid good money for exclusive marketing. You bet your ass you'll see another Destiny on-stage demo.

If TLG is there then I think it'll trump Uncharted for the last reveal. I could see them stacking both at the end. Uncharted first and TLG last. They did that in 08 with GoW3 and MAG.

I was thinking about that, but I couldn't remember if Sony had ever opened a show with a multiplatform game before. But thinking back to last year, that may have been the first time that they closed the show with one. So, it's certainly possible. It's definitely the type of game that's best suited for a show opener. I do hope that they try to avoid the rehearsed banter though. That was not good. Let it be spontaneous or just don't talk at all.

Kind of like how they did the TLOU demo?
