Sony's Gamescom Media Briefing On "Release Plans for PlayStation 4"

One of the reasons why The Order 1886 has not gotten much hype, even though it is being developed by a top studio is that we havent seen any gameplay. Look how much hype Infamous has gotten because people saw the gameplay videos.

Granted Infamous is closer to release than The Order 1886, but i do hope we see even a 10 second gameplay video, they must have something ready for show. I want to be excited for the game considering the pedigree of that studio, but its hard when you have seen nothing bar the intro.

So here is to The Order 1886 at Gamescom +

i agree
Although Infamous is an established IP. So people know what they are getting.
The Order got A LOT of attention but without gameplay people don't know what they are getting

For the record I believe verendous more than I believe myself. He seems to actually be a part of all of it. I'm just friends with people who are.

Maybe your friends got a directive from Andy House to troll you into deflating the hype for Gamescom because he's sad how GAF always exclude him from all the GIFs.

IMO, going to Gamescom, the least Sony should do is at least validate all the non-1st party studio PS4 works-in-progress, like the Stardust HD spiritual sequel, and all the other devs who has publicly came out and said they're working with Sony on a PS4 title. (launching in 2014, of course)

It's understandable that Sony will want to hold back on the big-guns from their AAA-teams, but at least give a name and presence to the 'more-than-indie' titles that they're publishing. Similar to MS's highlight reel of games they showed for mere seconds. Those are the kind of titles that will go under the radar anyway midst the noises of the AAA-titles from 3rd-party and 1st-party, even if announced later rather than sooner.
Mon. Tage. It'll happen.

So through this thread I had my hype shot down and brought back up again. It was at Verendus levels before coming into this thread, brought down to famousmortimer levels, and is now in between.

I think Sony is smart enough to see the criticisms of their E3 and many users on the net saying that MS is beating them in terms of games lineup and that they're now choosing MS over Sony for that reason. I think it would be wise to at least reveal a few of their unannounced titles (that are releasing before E3 2014), or heck, just do teasers for a bunch of games and do proper gameplay reveals later if they want to space out gaming news.

A lot of MS stuff was just teasers as well, but it at least let people know that there are games coming. So many people just don't believe that sony has a good amount of games left to reveal since they haven't been shown or even announced specifically at all, whereas they're eating up MS' reveals.

I really think they should have at least 75% of their first year lineup revealed by the end of this year. Yes, the console is going to sell out till march, and they'll need something to push sales then. But a goal should also be to win over people who are on the fence, which just isn't going to happen if they hold back their game announcements.

I'm checking out the gamescom 2012 vid now and yeah..they aren't messing around. Reveals/trailers back to back and the whole thing feels faster than E3

was a great show for the vita too

It makes me wonder, if the end-sales actually being anything like these supposed internal Sony metrics, my god what the guys providing 3rd-party exclusives to MS would have to feel like after totally missing that bet.

Anyway, the Gamescom cometh. #hype

Well I want Insomniac to do well, I really do - it just feels bad man...
R & C was one of the first games I ever played on a console :p never had anything before a PS2 besides a Gameboy

Since we are mentioning SSM and another team. IS ND doing the same?( After U3 they have 130 guys/girls over there.)

maybe it's a glitch, but ND jumped from 250-255 employees to 280 in a week or so. when you click on that number it only shows 225 people. So not sure what is the real number.
But 280 is the highest I have seen ND at. Been at around 250-255 for months.(they have over 20 job positions on their site for months as well)

Could the Battlefield Galactica writer be a part of that team?

I have no idea, im not in the loop on anything but from his blogpost on the PS blog it seems hes looking for people :(

Err as far as the writer, the teaser in GOW:Ascension had a spacey kind of feel to it so maybe he/she is working on Stigs game.

I just want a Release date, and Driveclub to blow me away. As long as a I get these I will be a happy man. Anything else is a bonus!

Stardust will be there. And there will be good news along with that.

This is the second time you've mentioned something like, Stardust will be there and also there will be none-game news that is good news with it. Sony bringing Housemarque into WWS? Maybe? They're a talented studio who would be a really tidy addition. Maybe????

It's funny, he says the release date is soon and that there's nothing MS can do about it, but I believe they already have.

MS limiting the scope of their launch probably happened because a) they're having production problems and b) they learned that Sony is launching much earlier than expected, and now have to advance their own timetable.

Delaying shipments to a few minor countries (in terms of volume, not how lovely they all are) will not give MS the stock to launch earlier in the US or UK. it might give them enough stock to have a reasonable launch rather than a massively under stocked one.

There was a poster in the PS4 E3 hype thread that said Guerrilla Games would show off their new IP at Gamescom.

Sure, but they didn't seem particularly legit to me.

With two Killzone games yet to come out, it makes zero sense logically that GG would announce their new IP next week.

I wouldn't be surprised if mortimer is mostly right (he has a good track record, after all).

And honestly, I just don't see ND or Sony Santa Monica being present at the event...I think those will be saved for VGA's and E3. The Last Guardian, I expect at TGS or E3. Ditto for From Software's RPG.

That leaves us with Media Molecule and Guerrilla Games. Some insider mentioned (can't recall if it was Verendus or Gopher) that Guerrilla Games were saving their new IP for GamesCom and that it wouldn't be at E3....they were half right, so far.

But I also don't think they'll show it until after KZ:SF releases, and as for Media Molecule, they didn't look like they had gotten too far with their pet project back in February...I don't have high hopes of them showing anything yet.

Sooo......where does that bring us?

Well, my hope is that launch games start looking a heck of a lot more polished/finished, KZ:SF looks amazing and more like the February reveal (but even better), and multiplayer blows everyone away....DriveClub shames the E3 footage and calms the doubters, InFamous: Second Son stuns everyone as per usual, and we get actual gameplay from The Order.

Not to mention the new Super Star Dust game...

That's all I'm expecting and will be happy so long as it looks like the launch software is coming together nicely, anything more will be a pleasant surprise.

You can fit a lot within an hour. Microsoft's e3 conference was pretty content filled and it was only an hour. But considering Sony's is split between three platforms, and the fact that they may be unveiling their release plans and haven't really shown off much of the operating system, that might eat into allotted game related time a bit. Who knows though, I hope they surprise me and have a hell of a show, because the lineup could definitely use some reinforcing. I'm still reluctant that they have further launch/launch window games to come out, considering that we're potentially 2-3 months out from launch. Seems like too little of a window to unveil and release a game.

I think people may be expecting a little too much from Sony at Gamescom though, especially with TGS and Spike VGA around the corner as well.

If it is 75 mins, they can spend 15 mins on PS3 and Vita, and an hour on PS4.

Because they've already had two big shows (feb and E3) I don't think they need to spend that much time on the launch titles, so hopefully more time to show what will be coming out in 2014. Last gamescom they did that too - a longer view of what was coming out.

Mortimer, maybe you've just heard more from NA devs because you know them and I have a feeling that EU teams and Xdev will have more to say at Gamescom (not only because it happens in Europe).
Nevertheless, I'm fine with Sony's release strategy of one exclusive a quarter. People tend to forget third parties are huge now and PS4 is expected to get the better ports anyway. People also forget that AAA exclusives cost tens or even hundreds of millions. Sony isn't in a position to spend endless amounts right now. Taking into consideration their financial status and the fact they invested in Vita, Gaikai and PS4,they're doing just fine.
I personally buy 1-2 games a month plus some smaller PSN titles. I've already chosen about 10 titles from the launch 40ish offer. I'll be fine for half a year from launch. Then I expect more and they will deliver, I'm sure.

So how's the hype train today? (after the mini-drama)

Slow train, high speed rail or hyperloop?
I don't know anymore.

Sony need to show something. I understand they'll sell out at launch. But they showed almost the same stuff at E3 as they did back in February. It's getting old now. Ey need to give us at least a sneak peek at a couple more games, just to give us confidence that there will be support next year (of course we know it, but it'll get good press coverage too)

No matter what you have in your back pocket it won't compete with Halo anyway, so just do your own thing.

Not even game footage..just a teaser like Halo. Something with Drake

I do have one, singular, contact in SCEE... but yeah you're probably right. It's also just sadly true that there are just as many rumors inside the company (or any company) as there is outside of it.

personally? Mortimer has killed most of my hype.

20 AAA exclusives in year 1 and we only know of 5, with potentially not many more to be shown at gamescom.

As someone who was disappointed about sony's e3 exclusive games showing, im a bit annoyed with sony.

Because they're making you wait? You KNOW they are coming! They have the stable, they have the horses, they just aren't showing you their prized stallions yet, but they're there.

I hope Sony announces an action adventure game for the ps4 that's going to be out at launch. And I hope the launch date is oct 10th

Erm, lol @ 20 AAA exclusives.
Noone said that these are all AAA games.

Even smaller PSN-games count in this list. It's the same with MS's "over 15 games".

precisely.

microsoft has shown their consumers games that are console-sellers....sony has not. like i said, after being unimpressed with sony's e3 conference, mortimer's news about lack of game announcements is disappointing IMHO.

Yeah I understand, I'd settle for a few teasers for the longer term. a very loose roadmap would do the trick, I'm sure the games are being made so it would just be reassuring really.

Doesn't stop multiple GAF posts about how MS have more titles announced than Sony. And of course it'll be sold out at launch, but there are plenty of people that don't care about the few launch games (entire threads here about that). Showing them what is coming at least for the first half of next year and perhaps a teaser of some later stuff might get those guys excited.

You want people to be happy to buy a Ps4 or wait to get one, rather than an Xbox on the basis that MS announced more stuff.

What we 'know' isn't important. People are simple - we want to see, or at least be told.

by FAR, this has been one of the most entertaining threads I've EVER had the pleasure to read! This thing has been all over the place, in terms of highs and lows...and I'm just on page 14. You guys and girls Rock! lol

anyway, I'm hoping for a late October release. August and September would really be too soon, in my humble opinion.

I would like there to be talk of the future also. But I get the feeling that Sony is laser focused on the launch.

The thing is that while it sucks right now, if true (and verendus says it's not and he knows more than I) it will suck for now. But later this year and early next year Sony will be dropping bomb after bomb while Microsoft will be talking about Halo and Titanfall which they unveiled the prior June...
