Err, no. They took a MAME shot of Soul Calibur arcade.Martini said:so basicaly the guy took a SC2 arcade shot and fuzzed it up? why do people waste -our- precious time. effin hell.

Are YOU blind? SC is still one of the very best looking games on the system and was a MASSIVE improvement over the arcade. Nothing was retained from the arcade just like TTT for PS2. That is Soul Calibur 2, BTW.btrboyev said:I just love how Dark10x likes to compare first gen DC games which also happen to be psone level ports(character models and all) to 3rd gen ps2 games. Hell, SC2 is f*cking multiplatform. Why assume it's PS2?
Nope, I don't think so. Geometry was increased beyond any other DC fighter...and the DC never proved to us that it could throw a lot of it around. The inability to throw around geometry was where the DC really faltered and is why it could not keep up (well, that's not the only reason...)btrboyev said:I'm just bringing up the fact that you think SC2 is miles ahead of the DC soul calibur. It is to a degree but I'm just saying if namco had the opportunity to port SC2 to DC hardware it could most likely look nearly identical to the other versions minus some lighting effects.

And how many 3d fighters are there on DC that weren't ports anyways? Very few. Plus the DC wasn't around nearly as long as current systems have been and thus never had a chance for any late gen graphical masterpieces to show up. And its still a port after all..it basically keeps the level design and character models true to the original but just enhanced.
I don't care. I know people tossed PSX ports onto the machine, but you talk as if EVERYONE did that (which they most certainly did not).btrboyev said:I'm not saying it would be keeping up with current systems, but I'm am saying it would of have improved by quite a bit. Another thing to consider is that a lot of 3rd party devlopers pushed ps1 ports at the system and never really took advantage of it at all.
DC Dead or Alive 2 and PS2 Tekken Tag Tournament are both said to perform about 3M polygons per second according to their respective developers. DoA2 seamlessly transitions different characters and stages with no load times between fights, however....SC2 sports fewer effects and less complex models than TTT...
...Geometry was increased beyond any other DC fighter...
Dead or Alive 2 already improved certain aspects of performance considerably.I don't think SC would have seen any major improvements on the DC.
There you go. The Dreamcast invented streaming. GTA3 would've been better on the DC.Lazy8s said:DoA2 seamlessly transitions different characters and stages with no load times between fights, however.

There were plenty of teams that really set out to do great work on the DC (and did).
Once again, each console has had a number of games that basically showed us "the future" of where the consoles are going and what they are strong with. There seems to be this general attitude that the DC was never properly used due to its early death. That's BS. None of the machines have seen massive, generational boosts over their lifetimes. They've simply shown improvements in areas they were always good at.
It almost seems as if people expected the DC to take a radically different turn in life and start producing results that it simply was never intended to. There is a reason why Naomi 2 was made...
There ya go. Dreamcast had mad RAM, yo.Lazy8s said:The implication of having no loading time between matches is that a significant amount of stage and display detail for the current stage has to be set aside for the next stage.

I was way too hasty. I have some exclusive "Soul Calibur IV - 天命のシステム" pics exlusively for the Sega Dreamcast.
Notice how the DC is capable of rendering THREE characters at once in that second shot? Incredible stuff. I hear they make great use of volume modifiers as well, which the DC should be declared god at. Unfortunately, Namco is unable to yet harness the true power of the DC and its ability to render reality, so the art style is a bit "plain". Looks like generic Western art...
Take a look...
