The game isn't released until the 8th. This is early access.
Early access, also known as alpha access, alpha founding, paid alpha, or game preview, is a funding model in the video game industry by which consumers can purchase and play a game in the various pre-release development cycles, such as pre-alpha, alpha, and/or beta, while the developer is able to use those funds to continue further development on the game.”

Correct. The point being made was that the number of people playing now is not representative of the number playing at release.

What part of the game is racist? Black in Louisiana? Improbable yes, but I don’t think it’s racist.
I am only bringing this up because you may not be familiar with the area, but Southern Louisiana has a huge black population. Second largest by percentage of the population, behind Mississippi.

It's still a percentage, which you can compare to previous games in the same circumstances. Like I think the early access for Starfield on steam was about 50% of the release peak CCU if I remember correctly.
So the CCU doubling or possibly tripling, isn't exactly killing it with this starting number.

Technically true; the nuance, I think, is that paying for early access is still cheaper than $70. which would imply a higher number of players than what the game has.

lol....man we are really milking Steam CCU for all its worth these days. Ok then. This game isn't going to be "killing it" at any point. I'm guessing closer to Hellblade 2 peak CCU than Indy. Think I guessed 6k the other day. We will see.

It's just how the data trends. ha! I'd get a pc gp or gpu key to play this if I wanted to. So Steam CCU doesn't mean everythign to me. Paying $40 when you could pay less than $15 for a short game is a no brainer to me.

Fair enough. The game is $40, btw.

I doubt I would sub for a month just to play this. I have game pass with rewards points so I'll try it, but so far it isn't that appealing a game.

I'm not. Even for that price. The reviews just convinced me to finish Kena. I'm only like half way through it. I have way too many better games sitting in my backlog to entertain this.

The game is on Xbox, play it and judge for yourself.
The first bit is a bit slow, but the story is weird as fuck and gripping.
Cool.

I generally tend to ignore stories unless its really good. Hopefully its not cryptic and I can enjoy it.

Am mostly hesitant cause people that praise it call it a relaxing game. That usually means low interactivity, shut your brain off type of game.

It should....I'm a few hours in and loving it. It looks amazing and has a real unique style. Reminds me a bit of Voodoo Vince and Shadowman (the south/ cajun vibes and platforming).

It should so well but the usual suspects will shit on it saying 'typical Gamepass game' or 'It's woke'

Those are fanboys of a certain white console and will shit on anything not on their system.
(But....eventually it may be......and they will then praise it........hypocrites!)
That's a very odd take.

So they MUST like the game. But if they don't like it, it's because they are hypocrites and warriors -- and not because the game wasn't good?

when shills stop shilling, criticism and actual conversation can take place.

compulsion is yet another studio under MS that has falied to "level up/reach its full potential"

It feels like MS acquired studios and stop investing in them, or even worse, take investment away from them while expecting to achieve greater success.

The ROI on Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones, Avowed, and this game has to be practically non-existent. With Marvel Rivals and PoE2 making damage to Overwatch 2 and Diablo... I wonder bad is Xbox performing as a publisher this quarter

One guy said it’s good the other said it isn’t, no need for such a dramatic take on it.

Also we have heard from the studios they acquired that they have invested and some of them have grown quite a bit. We have no idea what the ROI is on these games or what MS expects because of GamePass.

The game is a $40 small title. I highly doubt MS is expecting it to sell millions.

Games been in development for years and years. This wasn't a low cost game to make and if it fails then i guarantee that there's going to be jobs on the line and rightfully so. Idk who this game is even for tbh. It seemed like an incredibly niche market to target when it was announced and it's clear that no one is going to care about this game when it launches.

but (We have no idea what MS expects) right?

ROI includes new subs from Game Pass/engagement (like Colt says) or whatever other magic metric MS uses to create "sucesss"

It feels like MS acquired...
whatever the investment is.. it's clear that is not working. Xbox keeps releasing lackluster, irrelevant games.

It's time use the brain. after all of that has happened there is no need to do damage control anymore.

Lol with these numbers it'll be a miracle if it sells a million. Think it's time to stop pretending these triple digit ccu's are anything but a diaster for these studios. The growth phase is over. These studios aren't going to survive long if they don't start become self sustainable. MS have closed studios for less.

You know the game is not worth defending when even the shills can’t do it.

I’ve played two great games in the last few months from them and I’m playing a good game now. I don’t really care what other people deem to be relevant. The best selling games are CoD and sports. The most played games are all F2P evergreen junk.

I’m more than happy to play a smaller $40 title that also happens to be a new IP. It’s the type of game that would be celebrated if Sony was partnering with it. Feel free to make another forty posts about what a failure it is before it’s even launched 😆😆😆 Not going to feed the troll any more.

This doesn't look like a small budget title, more like medium+. Seems that they didn't make a game that would attract a lot of people, but that's on the studio (and the publisher).

No one cares about you. You are not the market. Phil is not going to pat you on the back and congratulate you. You enjoying games is not going to save the studios from shutting down.

A lot of the studios MS bought are like this. inXile, Obsidian, Compulsion, Double Fine, Ninja Theory. Games that are usually good to very good but smaller scale and less monstrous budgets and also at times pretty niche. Wasteland 3 was amazing but it’s not the type of game that will attract a lot of people.

This is a $40 game from a studio with less than 100 people.

You forgot to mention Tango and Arkane Austin on this list. 😛 They also used to make good but smaller-scaled niche games.

I'm guessing around 1.5k to 2.5k, majority of players are going to be Game Pass. Might be a good candidate for a boost on Steam during an end of year sale.
