I've been a fan since the first episode, and I can certainly admit they are hit and miss these days. Last few seasons have been better, though. They also stopped with the stupid Libertarian crap for the most part.

South Park Studios got a revamp.

What has South Park done that has kept it from the missteps made by The Simpsons in later years? I haven't tuned into South Park since season 15, but it's material is still reasonably fresh. Certainly not as embarrassingly lame as The Simpsons have become.

All the South Park episodes are still written by Parker.

The Simpsons, meanwhile, are on their 5th generation of writers. Its not that they've gotten worse, its that the old writers left ages ago.

Supposedly Bill Hader joined the writing staff this season?

Yeah he's been doing it for awhile. In Nerdist podcast, he said he would come in for a few hours and bounce ideas with Matt and Trey and one more person, then Trey and Matt would work on it. They would also have retreats before the season starts, which is really just renting a hotel suite and talking about ideas.

Even when The Simpsons had old writers come back, they couldn't get the magic back. South Park is different. It goes wherever Trey wants to take it. Sometimes he fails, but he has that freedom. It's him or nothing.

Here's the website for that marathon:

http://www.southparkstudios.com/events/spmarathon/live.html

Starts in 3 hours.

The marathon will be comprised of 94 hours, 59 minutes and 40 seconds of "South Park" content online, including Matt Stone and Trey Parker's "Year of the Fan" commentary to introduce the Top 15 episodes, as well as the full-length "6 Days to Air" documentary about the making of "South Park."

Butters bottom bitch has to be one of my favourites.

And the one where butters is obsessed with bush and is trimming the little plant, got me
And then his line something like

"Yeah i finally paid a girl to see her bush and do you know what she had under there?" ..."Sick joker lips"
And he's looking so mad, totally cracked me up

Waiting to see if "all episodes" means all of the episodes. Wouldn't be surprised if a certain three episodes get skipped over.

there's 237 episodes and the press release clearly states that the marathon consists of 234 episodes ;)

Am I the only one that doesn't like those??

They were better in the past. The ones in the recent years like that Broadway episode and the food network one were pretty lame after a few minutes.

I think Randy specifically works much better when he's not the sole focus of the episode. I still lose my shit when that guitar hero episode comes on and he's laying on the couch in his underwear playing Heroin Hero and Stan comes in and turns it off.

And South Park has been skewing celebs and referencing real world events since the beginning of the show. Remember that episode that referred to that Cuban kid in Florida? That aired in the fourth season, and it aired within days of the event happening.

The difference between now and then is for me that it wasn't even that important to understand the specific references. The old episodes are still funny, because the topics they adressed were either much broader and general or packed into unique stories/jokes. Not to mention that there was a much better balance between rl/current references and simply random, fun stories.
Nowadays I spend half the episode asking myself whether or not I even understand/know what they try to parody. And other than that, there really isn't anything else to many episodes, because they just take two plots with one running gag each and then just repeat it until the end. The new episodes feel less like a focused comedy and more like fanservice for 16 years olds that wanna hate on the latest summer blockbuster, popular boyband and similarly redundant shit and then talk about how ,,its funny coz its so truee hurrrr'' next day in school.

You also see that they are running out of ideas because they focus way too much on the same characters since several years and their running jokes soon reach Simpsons level of staleness. (Butters is grounded at the end of the ep in some ironic way, NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE)

Not actually that important
Can't wait. Hope there's less celebrities parodying this season, kinda had my fix of that but hey they could always surprise me with something hysterically funny so whatever

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last season or if they start winding the series down and end it whenever their contract is up again.

i dunno they seem to enjoy the process of doing the show , the way they animate it allows for a lot of flexibility.

yes mecha streisand is on right now

Pretty sure those three are indeed skipped over.
It's complete bullshit that they still can't show them because of religious fears. No one got mad when they originally showed Muhammed when the show wasn't nearly as big in the media. You can't even stream them on NetFlix. It's been what, 4 years now?

You can't stream any of the episodes on Netflix anymore.

So excited, it's been way too long.

Honestly, I'm still hoping for a Brony episode. And I know it's a long ways off, but I'd love to see some kind of Cartman episode where he thinks Marvel stole the idea of The Coon from in the form of Rocket Raccoon.

Bring on the new season!

Three days away. So excited. I was so let down that there was no South Park half-season in the Spring so it's fantastic we get a full season over the Autumn. The show should bring some warmth to the cold nights coming up. Shouldn't there be an episode preview up around now? Then again Matt and Trey tend to cut it quite close to the wire. I remember in the "Six Days to Air" documentary they submitted the episode something like hours before the deadline. Still though I'm excited to see what their ideas are going to be for this season. I thought last season was a return to form overall. Almost every episode was great. I hope the writing is just as good this time round.

Wednesday can't come soon enough. Thanks for creating the thread OP. I was hoping there would be a thread for this.
