Spectrum Studio Boss in Hot Water as “Naked Sauna” outlined as Part of Employees Requirements Surface

You mean him wanted coworkers with him is stupid right?
Either he genuinely wants people to experience the sauna as intended to help with the game they're making and he's socially retarded, or he's power tripping and trying to get his rocks off at going through an extremely public and embarrassing dance with perpetually online twitter users.

Either way it's fucking stupid. That's what I mean.

Literally who studio with literally who boss working on literally what game that could go under by just refusing to work there if you find the conditions that are made known to you ahead of time so abhorrent. What is the tangible, real world problem here that we're supposed to be solving?

The bit the media is seemingly ignoring about the allegedly unpaid ex-employees from All In Games, the company the woman in question apparently just got laid off from.
What is your native language?

So are we gonna cancel all the Hollywood movies that require nude and sex scenes and rant about it on Twitter?

People who aren’t comfortable with the sauna requirement can simply not apply, also it’ll be weird to be clothed in a sauna. From my experience, most people use a towel to cover up.

I mean it's a bit of a weird hard stance to take that sauna meetings are a non-negotiable but also sounds like people complaining that have never gone and done sauna before. Because if they had they would know that it's not a very sexualised environment.

At work, I have been suggesting sauna as work team social because it's a very social and relaxing activity.

Also not sure what in the world this game they're making is supposed to be. Sauna based game but taking inspirations from Life is Strange, Final Fantasy, Touryst? What?

Done quite a few naked saunas in Japan. Nothing to be ashamed about and I don't even have a massive dong. They even have a word for just hanging out naked with someone in a hot spring or sauna lol

Same here, I also went with coworkers. NBD, it's only like the communal shower after team sports. But I would not force it on employees.

This guy is a legit creep, probably autistic. You dont have to make your team go to the sauna with you specifically. Can you imagine going to a sauna with your boss? Lmao

1. The game sounds shit and will bomb terribly
2. He's completely upfront about the hiring requirements as absolutely bonkers they appear to be, so it's not like he's springing it on them
3. I don't get the naked part, just wear your fucking swimwear like I've done in plenty of saunas
4. Ya gotta take into account slight cultural differences here and/or the fact that this dude is probably autistic, who knows maybe the sauna thing is the equivalent of a teams meeting in a bar for us normal Europeans
5. Everybody is an adult in the situation, no one is forced as far as I read, don't like it, don't apply to work in a studio run by a questionable weirdo whose very upfront about being a questionable weirdo
6. Again the game sounds shit

Who cares, just search for another job.
These are the job requirements and if you don't like it no sweat :messenger_smirking:
I don't understand why she had to have this discussion on social media, nobody forced her but because she couldn't have her way she tries to shame him.
Says alot about her as a person

It is not a good thing to do but it is on the term of the contract so if you don't want to you don't apply... it is baffling tho :)

Ok, the guy is getting a lot of shit and sounds like a creep, but he also said they have female only events, so it's not like he's asking the girls to get naked with him.

As far as I'd like to say they could absolutely achieve the same without being completely naked, I do get where he's coming from and I don't think it's that weird. If it could be brought down to "you can be in the sauna alone", I wouldn't see any problem at all.

Unless it's proven he's forcing women to get naked with him, in that case he's a creep.

I’m not entirely sure but a person told me some european countries do have unisex saunas. I’m assuming this is the case. Being mandatory is kinda sketchy though. His experience was decades ago though through a cruise ship.
Some european countries do have that and I thought westerners would welcome that? Or I guess those are not children's saunas :messenger_tears_of_joy:

What a nothing burger. Asking an employee to know something about sauna and participate in some optionally female only activities to gain knowledge seems awkward while perfectly reasonable in the specific game target. You require an artist to have seen some art pieces, a modeler needs to know 3dsmax, the Stalker guys visited Chornobyl etc... Game about sauna sounds stupid af- stories? next we get a pub game where people talk about politics or what- but with Finnland and Japan and probably other countries having an elaborate sauna tradition or culture, I know almost nothing about it, and anyone not wanting to know about it definitely just should not apply and not waste that dude's time (maybe he is hapy about some attention and more awareness of potential applicants though) to negotiate or pointlessly talk about a requirement that weirdly makes sense but makes them uncomfortable. Clearly not her dream job, so she should just f off? People who like sauna, have the required game dev skills and are either near enough or are even willing to move, probably would jump on this chance, to have sauna vistis on work hours.

Rubbish.

If you want your employees to have in depth knowledge of how saunas are, send them to private Saunas. They get to experience the exact same thing, without having to get naked with their bosses or co-workers. There is no benefit you’ll get in a sauna with 5 other people that you can’t get on your own.

People who like sauna, have the required game dev skills and are either near enough or are even willing to move, probably would jump on this chance, to have sauna vistis on work hours.

“if you like saunas, you absolutely must love doing it with other random people, completely naked” 🙄

Yeah make a team project individually... the point probably is to build together something. Whatever shite that even should be.

Saunas are as far as i am aware usually with random people. So you are either fine with it, or as I said you just f off, instead of even talking about it. Much like FKK, in Germany, with swinging dicks and bushes everyhwere in those areas. You either are into that stuff or you are not. No one is forcing that woman to even have any interest in that job if she is not accepting that point. Why even thinking about it, at all, if the topic sauna gives her the creeps.

Yeah this is BS. They make the game as a team. The narrative behind this sauna shit is that the team members need to understand the specifics of Sauna baths. You don’t need to get into a sauna with other coworkers before you understand the differences between wet and dry baths.

I think this guy might be on the spectrum himself. but his excuse is reasonable to me: we're making a game about saunas, so you should probably experience it yourself. maybe it is a little eccentric, but not perverted.

edit: i've been in plenty of saunas. I have never felt like it was a sexual environment... that's like saying going to the locker rooms is a sexual environment.

"Sauna evenings" are a thing there. As well as a lot of places in Europe.
Nah mate, sauna culture is almost non existant in Poland. And i say it as a fairly regular attendee (with my wife). The amount of creeps, swimsuit tourists and old smelly people make it not fun to do. And they mostly come as a 3 in 1 package, so i need to deal with old, smelly perverts with tiny boners in their trunks the moment they see my wife.

On topic i get what he wanted to achieve (giving the benefit of doubt regarding his intentions) but don't make it mandatory. Maybe try to do it once or twice, divide by gender to nit have a #MeToo at hand.

Seems like dude is a creep making a game only to satisfy his sauna fetish

"This is not a problem, nobody is forced to work there". Having the possibility of looking for jobs elsewhere doesnt change the fact that this is wrong af.

I don’t know these folks, but where can I put in an application? Makes me do it? You telling me I get sauna sessions for free? Sweating with other naked men for free you tell me? Can we play gay chicken?

It's clearly stated in the job application. If these conditions don't appeal to you, simply move on?

Having to participate at work, instead of say, bringing your own experience of sauna to the table is complete bullshit but it isn't like they are hiding this mandate in the small print
It's clearly stated in the job description you have to participate in group murders. We're making a combat game. You're free to apply somewhere else, but at this job we're killing people.

It is common to bathe alone in sauna. It is common also to bathe with other people in sauna, naked or with towels or bathing suits. In the end it comes down to personal preference.

I think he should have been more tactful about providing a solo sauna experience for those uncomfortable with bathing with other people / the opposite sex.

So, next game's gonna be a war game where the protagonist lead rebels. Job requirement for the creative process of writing that story: join a rebel group in Myanmar. You can bring your own guns. Also, experience in torture would be welcome. Have no time to waste to explain the difference between clipping and pulling finger nails.

how? Is any nude scene in any movie just wrong af? Is pornografy wrong af? You can have that stance, of course, but then just ignore this job.

Women: I want to be treated equal.
Also the probably same women: The world has to revolve around me.

At the people comparing sharing some sauna experience with murder or whatnot. You are certainly more unhinged than the dev boss if you are even remotely serious in those stupid af analogies. Nakedness is no crime if consensual, much like workplace relationships, stuff you suggest actually is though and even consent is only in certain cicumstances making it legal (eg getting a tattoo).

I personally think speaking with Linda and Francis from accounting about my yearly raise while we all bake in the sauna to be an entirely wonderful experience.

The office sauna is the only one available in the entire city? 🙄

People can walk into any private spa and experience it themselves. In as much privacy as they choose, often with random strangers.

how? Is any nude scene in any movie just wrong af? Is pornografy wrong af? You can have that stance, of course, but then just ignore this job.

Daft analogy. In a movie scene, you have to be present. You’re the center of the product. If it calls for a sex scene, it’s inevitable you have to act that part.

The devs of this videogame aren’t being scanned and modeled into the game naked in a sauna.

Women: I want to be treated equal.
Also the probably same women: The world has to revolve around me.

Most men would probably find it creepy if a job advert explicitly said you’d have to have nude team huddles with your coworkers.

What a fucking stupid comparison, ffs

They aren't movie actors, nor porn actors. They are developers.

And as I said, yes, you can ignore the job offfer (she did)

But that doesnt make it any less stupid

They're okay with it. Non-issue.

Maybe you need to hang out with the raver girls more ;)
