With Lucasfilm recently confirming a Star Wars TV series and Lucas himself mentioning bringing the saga to TV in a recent yahoo interview , there is growing speculation that J. Michael Straczynski may be the Executive Producer on the series.
Firstly a bit of history. Rumors of this TV series leaked out late last year/early this year. They gained steam, and some validity, in May/June of this year with more concrete details leaking out such as ILM hiring people for a major television project and some details on the setting of the series.
Around the same time, Straczynski was rumored to be in talks with Paramount to be in charge of a new Trek series. In June, Straczynski posted this and it has to do with a non-Trek project:
From JMSNews:
There is strong speculation that he was offered Star Wars because:
1. Babylon 5 showed he can do strong sci-fi stories on television.
2. Babylon 5 showed that he can work with a very small budget and produce strong special effects for television as well as a show that looks like it cost much more than it actually did.
If JMS is doing Star Wars, the series would be in very good hands.

on 6/15/04 JMS says, "I've been offered an EP (Executive Producer) position on a network series, and while I don't usually do that on shows I don't create or develop, when I heard what this project was, I had to get on board. We still have to negotiate a deal, and work out how that will interface with the stuff that will be going on later in the year, but fortunately the start date should work out, at least at this point."
