Spin-Off Star Wars: Should the Opening Crawl Be Reserved for Main Series?

What does Disney give a fuck if there is the Disney logo on the Star Wars films if they reap the benefits of the millions/billions of dollars they are going to make? In the end, at board meetings whene they announce record profits, they can show their shareholders the Disney logo all they want in front of the Star Wars and Marvel franchises.

Yep. It makes sense for them to not brand Marvel and Lucasfilm films with Disney anyway. Disney doesn't plaster Walt Disney over ESPN either.

Yeah. And like I said earlier, they don't do this with their other brands either like Touchstone. The only time a Disney logo is included is if Walt Disney Pictures themselves releases a movie. Walt Disney Pictures is itself a division of the Walt Disney Company. Just like Marvel and just like LucasFilm. They are all separate studios within Disney. The lack of Disney branding hasn't hurt Marvel. I see no reason of it hurting Star Wars (if they go that direction).

A bit of a bump, but with the news that the spinoffs will be called Star Wars Anthology: (Title Here), I'll ask the question again, should the opening crawl used only in the main series? If it is used, how do you think they will present it? Will the Star Wars logo still fly away from the viewer, or will it say Star Wars Anthology? I actually think it's possible the Star Wars logo will still fly out the same as usual and the placing of "Anthology" could go where it typically says the episode number in the main series.

Totally agree. The "heroes on both sides" line in particular tells us nothing and is arguably nonsensical. I suspect you're supposed to assume Grievous (appearing with no explanation out of nowhere) is one of these "heroes," but to whom is he a hero? We're never shown the Separatist side of things from the perspective of anyone who would be in a position to consider anyone heroic on that side. It's just such a weird, weird piece of writing, even for the prequels.

There is actually an episode of The Clone Wars that explores what that part of the crawl means. It's even titled "Heroes on Both Sides". It basically refers to how not everyone on the Separatist side is evil, and that there are people from both sides of the conflict that want to put an end to the war without trying to backstab each other in the process. The episode in particular depicts Padme secretly meeting up with a Separatist friend of hers to talk things over and try to incite both senates to a mutual truce.

"There are heroes on both sides. Evil is everywhere" is a great set of lines. I've never understood what people dislike about it. It's concise and explains very simply that there are no real good guys or bad guys in the war. Both sides are grey. The separatists are right that the Republic is corrupt and the Republic is right in that separatists are scum. I remember grinning when I read that line when it played in the theater.

Anyway, I would have wanted the crawl to be there initially but since it's a spinoff movie I think they should have more leeway to do what they want. TCW didn't have a crawl since it used Tom Kane's newsreel announcer, and that worked fine. I read all the crawls in his voice now (especially for RotS).

I'd like a different approach to the opening credits for the Anthology movies. Something to separate from the main series.

Especially since the movie is going to have a more raw look to it. Like they said, it'll be shot more like a war movie. I think the crawl might feel out of place. They might want a more restrained, low key, opening credit sequence.

There has been far, far worse Star Wars-related shit than a spin-off movie to get the crawl. It should have a crawl, just not an episode number, which it won't.

Despite having strong feelings on all manner of Star Wars minutia (annoyed that TFA marketing didn't have "Episode VII" and that it needed more wipes, in addition to believing Nien Nunb should be a galaxy wide hero) I really don't care either way about this.
