Come on guys. You can shout something is OP in 2 hours. If anything Rollers are really well balanced. They can cover ground but if your smart they can never touch you.

Have lost all three games, by a lot.

Yet I'm having so much fun!
Pretty much my experience... I feel kinda lame choosing the roller, but my team has a higher chance of winning (albeit slightly) w/ that in my hands than any other ink gun!

So much fun!
Though, I had one of the worst sets of weapons on my team for one game. So much so that one guy quit. They were all using the Snipey, with me sticking to good ol' Junior. It's no surprise we lost that one. Aha!

For this reason I hope you can change loadouts mid-game in the final version.

Now to wait until the next hour pops up. . .

Hot damn, my team and I were getting bodied in the last round, but we managed to pull a win from the depths of hell. I'm loving this game.

Wow that was awesome! I'm actually pretty decent at this game. Tried without gyro and was pretty rubbish, I find using the stick and then using the gyro for twitch based movements when in a skirmish works best for me. Love this game, can't wait to get it!

Wow that was so good, it feels very balanced. With just the two levels it got a bit repetitive but it should be ok once it launches.

The drip-feed realisation of strategies with each game I played was delicious. Some very dramatic, tense finishes.

yeah for sure, yesterday I kind of started getting it but today some of the map strategies and teammate strategies became a lot more clear. surprisingly deep game and this demo only scratches the surface of the game.

I really enjoy both maps now that I know how to approach them better

Woke up went to the bathroom and came back to catch the last twenty minutes.

I wasn't number 1 at all like the multiple times during the first session.

I found a video of everyone saying rollers are OP http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=l4UFQWKjy_I

Michael Macdonald?

Yeah I just have to get used to aiming. There are really easy to kill from far away.

I also need to use the hopping into squid form more to avoid being an easy target along with trying to get high ground. It's just so early.

Used the charger for the whole hour. It's fairly difficult to use unless you have a stellar aim. My only problem with it is that it has an akward arc making it hard to hit foes below you, who should logically be the easiest for this weapon to hit.

If you can aim it fucks with rollers pretty good but I'm not that great so I only had a few shining moments with it. Something cool you can do with it though is provide a really quick rollout to the center of the map for your team, so long as they don't get in the way of your shots.

I hope there'll be a more competent sniper rifle in the full game which has no distance limit and goes in a straight line.

for the first half hour it was kind of 50-50 on winning and losing teams. the last half hour i was mostly on winning teams. i used everything except the sniper rifle, but i kept going back to the roller. guess it gave me the feeling of the spy in team fortress the most with the one hit kill, especially in the last game i played. i snuck around the back where they were foolishly grouped together to defend their spawn and squashed them like bugs.

The main reason the roller is overpowered is because of how quickly and easily it can change the color of the map. I've seen massive comebacks take place in moments just because of a roller blitz.
I had to disagree, those fugling snipers when they go high, they just snipe you like a fly. Lost a match because of them (2 in enemy team). XD

Welp, that hour passed by quick. Either I'm really good at Splatoon or kept getting matched with people getting used to the game. I came out on top for nearly every game. Game is really fun, but I also don't touch multiplayer games super often so maybe it's just that. I really love the tactics going on half the time. I ran with roller for a good half of my matches then went with the default splattergun or whatever it's called. Roller feels super good since you can cover area super quick and it's super weapon can deal with a whole path of enemies. It's a good way to protect an area for a quick second and head them off on the side. A lot of it seems to be sneak up to their face by being a squid, hitting them from behind since you don't have great perception around you at first, or just shaking it at them.

Regular Splattergun is super fun since it's just a regular gun and it's easy to stomp on rollers or snipers who don't have a full grip yet. I also love the bubbleshield since it's a good way to deflect one roller attack if need be. It's an easy way to turn a tide in a battle.

Other side things I loved was the ability to see other enemies super jumping in to spots in front of you so you can just sit there and sort of spawn kill them. I also fucking loved throwing a grenade behind an enemy so they had no where to run. I saw them crawl in ink trying to get away with probably no ammo while I shot them and another guy rolled over them. It's pretty great. I think my most kills in a match was 12 with my final match. I was feeling a little apprehensive buying this day one, but this shook away those worries super hard. I guess I'll try to see if I'm any good with the sniper rifle equivalent during the third phase since I've barely tried it out.

So this is what i found to be most successful.

Taking an Splattershot jr. and running in pair with a roller. Make sure you're not too close so you can't cover ground as well, but as soon as a fight looks to break out, bubble up (makes sure you bubble him as well, duh) and let him run everyone over while you spray the ground around them so they can't dive under and run away.

Most satisfying kill: jumping down on an enemy with the roller and smashing them with the roller flick and you land.

Ended up losing at least two matches. The second loss was actually close.

But I did do better here than the first test. Three victories I managed to be the top player with the most points (I think those did not involve the roller).

I didn't know you can share the Bubble shield with other players via touch when activated, but it's really useful when you're surrounded and/or at certain "death".

Wow did way better with guns than I did in the first test. Although might as well call me a Grenader as i was dipping in and out tossing nades around.

Someone killed me with it across the other side of the rig map. git gud

I mean it has the rare occasional situational use, I've certainly gotten kills with it, so maybe it's not completely useless.

But the fucker takes like 18 hours to set down and activate. If there's anyone near you when you pull it out, you're dead.

Yep. It's fun even when you're getting your ass kicked. Did way worse this morning than last night. Even got stuck on the wrong end of a 4 vs 3 round in the last game (I guess our fourth player didn't make the server cut off). Being outnumbered in this game is brutal.

Guess I should eat some breakfast and get some shit done before hour three :)

The netcode is freaking impressive. Nintendo got net code for a game like this right? Madness.

As an individual weapon, yes. But a team of splattershot juniors isn't going to consistently beat a team with one or two rollers.

That's the point I'm making. Coverage.
Hard to argue 'consistently' after two hours play, but I've been using nothing but the Jr. today, and only lost one game. Won with a team full of Jr.s, also beat a team full of rollers. As long as you play your part well, all the weapons are viable and nothing seems OP.

I would say the Charger is underpowered for Turf War, but I'm sure it'll be powerful in the more focussed ranked modes where wider coverage isn't key.

I am a fan of the Splattershot Jr. Well, not so much the gun itself, the Super that comes with it. Having that Bubbler charged opens up a lot of options. Like charging the enemy, seeing their rollers bounce off and laugh. Or just as a panic button.

Or for the more sneaky advanced types. Bump into teammates and SHARE the bubble. Now we're BOTH invincible! Had three of us bubbled in one game.

Ubercharge tactics are a go! Except I don't need a Heavy. I AM my own Heavy.

I did not know that this was a thing. Holy crap.

Was pretty fun but the gyro controls (can you change those somewhere?) are absolutely horrible. I don't understand why they don't let you look up and down with the right stick. Deal breaker if that's unchangeable. Outside that it was pretty cool, but not sure if it's 40 Euros kind of cool.

Wow,time really flew by. I played a lot of matches and could try all the weapons. I didn't like using the roller and the sniper rifle was very weak. The roller is definitely not OP, it's a melee weapon and the only way for it get you is by surprise, if you see them coming you can take them down before they can reach you. Just skid away and get them from a distance, or gain height and there's nothing the roller can do.

I had no problem at all with the controls, it may be because I don't play shooters usually so I didn't have to "relearn" anything.

I was going to get this day one anyway, now the wait for the 29th is gonna be unbereable, I really really liked it!

Another hour of fun (my second). I was "XiaoMi" if any of you saw me. Played a fair bit of charger and splattershot, but mostly stuck with the roller, because it reminds me of playing Pyro in TF2. This game is FAST, and it feels great to zip around the map and take care of business. Things I saw:

1. So many bad roller players. It's supposed to be a hit and run weapon, not a full assault weapon. Stop trying to charge me from across a bridge; there are so many ways to kill you.

2. Lots of bad snipers. They'd find a high spot (e.g. above one of the flat rectangular areas on the Rig) and just stay there, trying to shoot people, often missing, while doing nothing for their teams. I feel like this weapon is more of a support weapon: get lines down so your team can move faster, and then defend large areas of paint from rollers. One dude managed to shut down my team doing just that (protecting the northern square on the Rig).

3. People aren't super-jumping enough. I feel like when an area is fully covered by your team, you should be jumping to a new area almost immediately (unless you are a sniper).

4. This game is fucking fun as shit.

It's so fucking hard letting go of the fragging mindset lol. I've been taught to kill things since I was an infant.

Bro, this ain't

I did have a really good moment where someone dropped a Killer Wail like... ten feet in front of me, so I just sidled a couple feet at the right and threw a grenade right at their face.

As a person that doesn't play shooters, I enjoyed my time. Was surprised how smooth the game was (no lag at all). The matches were fast, and they were a lot of fun. If you can add a skype call, the games can be amazing.

Going to be playing with analog controls, with the camera sensitivity set to -3 or -4.

Okay, after a the second test, I redact my harsh criticism of the sniper. I finally understood how to effectively snipe people and burst paint to cover ground efficiently, and it was pretty fun. I definitely look forward to how the splat charger w/scope will play.

Also, when a team member DCs, are they replaced with a bot? Because it seems like they just disappear from existence.

Well, the game is pretty fun. That Uzi is the bomb, and somehow motion controls are better from what I saw of dual stick mode. No matter what, my hands felt tied when it came to controlling and aiming, but I guess it's like a sack race - everyone is fighting the same fight so it's alright.

But 60 bones? Yeeesh.
