Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

I honestly can't think of another new IP on the Wii U to compare it to besides Wonderful 101.

Zombie U

If Splatoon really had somewhat comparable marketing campaign to Mario Kart I really don't see how around 20k debut week is that good. Sure it's UK and WiiU but still. Well it's not another Bayonetta 2 either though.

For a new ip with the userbase the console has over here, I think it's pretty decent.

Two questions: How do I unlock more of those squid retro minigames and what's the best strategy to win lots of points? I generally manage to do fairly well but I wonder how some people constantly get +1300 points when they win.

I think I'm missing something about the grand scheme of things.

Seems like the general consensus is the ranked unlock 'meter' which @SplatoonJP keep updating us with on Twitter is just a farce and is planned to go up at the current rate anyway?

Well, I mean, I'm sure the meter is "fake". It's likely just to generate buzz and keep a steady feed of content. 1 week after release ranked matches come out, then two weeks after that the Splat Fest for Japan, next week America, next week Europe, new weapons and maps and stuff, then the big update in August.

Imagine if the game was less successful than it is, and only a third as many people picked it up. As if they would wait 2~3 weeks to unlock ranked matches.

alright, so what are players looking for out of a roller online?

Seems to be the roller is all about capitalising on board position and then mobility around the map. and of course making sure the spawn area has nice coverage
I usually have to be careful around corners and random trails of paint the end out of nowhere. Oh and rollers dropping on me from high towers...

Darn it. Wasn't paying attention and got killed. Wanted another flawless game.

Know how to kill people.

Exactly. But it is also the fifth fastest selling Wii U game in the UK, which is more impressive.

Not according to this guy:

17k is never decent, even indie games need to sell more than that to be called a "decent" debut.

Then I said:

Well I think the game sold well outside of the UK, like Japan has sold out of the game and the US might have done well.

He come back with:

Do you have numbers for either market?

SO yeah...

...Splatoon was a failure because the UK numbers weren't high enough.

The minigames are handled in the OP.

Regarding strategy, something like this (although this was "only" a match against press people):

The opposing team neglected their own base.

Never sure which is worse: the people who completely neglect their bases, or the inevitable teammate who spends the first minute of the game overcompensating for it by being a perfectionist.

"Hold on, this tree isn't blue enough yet!"

It kind of depends on what weapon you use.
You only get points for painting the ground, so if you are using a charger for example, you probably won't get as many points.
If you want more points, use a weapon that will spray a lot of ground fast. You can test them out in the shop.
Matches are only 3 minutes I think, so every second counts. If you die lots that could be one reason (say you die 5 times that is like 20~30 seconds you lose). And if you are spending a lot of time engaging enemies that too will eat up your painting time.

Exactly. But it is also the fifth fastest selling Wii U game in the UK, which is more impressive.

I don't mean to be negative, but it's not like there are a ton of high selling Wii U games in the UK, so 5th doesn't strike me as that impressive. I'm not saying it bombed, but sales of 20k or so (if that is true) don't strike me as particularly great. Granted I don't know the Wii U install base in the UK.

The home base isn't important in the first minute or so, you should be surging ahead trying to block off the choke points and maybe gain a little ground. One or two stragglers max covering the turf to begin with but it's not worth it most of the time. Ink that shit on your way back to the front lines during the turbulent second minute (it's usually not worth super jumping back if there's no beakon or everybody is in combat).

My bad for never reading those and simply jump to the recent posts, thanks for the heads up though!

I've seen the video and that's what I aim to achieve but I swear that weapons with high firing rate have an edge when it comes down to gaining points. Either that or I'm just terrible with anything else.

I got a cool upgrade last night that I can't wait to try out after finishing studying today. It's a stealth jump. It means I can super jump without leaving a trail/circle on the floor.

That's awesome purely because I know I love camping those circles as charger haha. It's a death trap to super jump sometimes.

Isn't 3 star gear always 30k from Spyke? That's how it's been for me but maybe there's different tiers. If it's indeed 3* I'd go for it at level 7 for sure, but 2* isn't worth it. You'll be getting that gear quality in shops very soon.

Explain to me the item buffs. Is the main buff more powerful than the sub buff? Why do only three buffs show up on the HUD during gameplay? Is it better to have as many different buffs as possible or to stack?

The 3-star Gas Mask that I own was a 15k item. It might vary depending on brand maybe?

Is there a way to unlock the additional mini games without the Amiibo? I didn't realise they unlocked what seems like exclusive content. It's REALLY expensive DLC if you think about it and even more if you try to obtain those Amiibo now :(

I don't see any reason to believe it would be rigged. Am I missing something? Makes perfect sense that they would want to wait for there to be enough lvl 10's if that's going to be a requirement.
It does make sense. You can choose to agree or disagree with their choice but it isn't without merit.

Red is a ninja with that roller haha

Haha sorry. I felt kind of bad on a few of those warehouse games.

Pretty sure it's a % so it doesn't matter how it sold. They want to ensure enough people are able to play so the matchmaking is good.

I would agree with you except I don't know that feels. It sounds awful though.

If I remember to I'll write up a few tips and what not tomorrow. It's a very fun weapon.

Some one said spike charges 10x msrp.

I usually cover enough of my base to activate my special and make a push for the middle. After my first death, I go back and cover the base and either push mid or attack the enemy base based on how contested the middle is.

Imo there shouldn't be a reason to cover the base right off the bat because controlling the map is more important. Plus leaving it empty for the first player who dies might give him enough points to activate his special.

I don't mind if I have teammates want to cover the base at the start as long as they're not painting the walls like it counts as points.

It's pretty bad... I'm just minding my own business then all of the sudden my camera is focusing on you. >.<

Are the locked extra abilities for the equips randomly decided? I saw someone with a 2* scuba mask with 3 attack enhancements (including the original). Did they get really lucky? Anyway to redo the enhancement you get (mainly for the amiibo outfits).

It's random, but at Lv.20 you can pay Spyke 30k and s/he will reroll the abilities for you.

Multiple enhancements of the same kind do not stack on the same piece of gear.
Judd told me this.

Are you sure? I'm asking because we've had people misreading Judd's gear-related tips and that would be incredibly awful, that gear would be trash and essentially force you to pay an additional 30k.
