Gamepad only, at least in multiplayer (online).

I've been to a couple stores, despite my most convincing negotiation skills I cant get anybody to break the street date on the amiibo here. !@#$%!

The game requires the touch screen to perform basic functions (would be impossible and a rather different game otherwise, like for example the local multiplayer mode that is unlike the rest of the game).

If you have them on your friend list, go to that menu option (it's listed right below the regular Turf War icon) and join. If their lobby has an open slot you'll enter their game lobby.

Alright, back with some new gear now. Hoping the random perks will shake out better this time. Stuff like 'faster squid jump' or 'less ink used for sub weapon' is not really that useful to me.
