Damn it, I wanted to play on Arowana Mall. I hope it is in the next map rotation.
No problems at all.
I just pick a comfortable neutral position, set that as centre, and then don't change it again.

30 minutes non stop attempting to join a match and 100% failure.
My internet is fine (it connects online, no downloads, speed test shows normal), Nothing changed from last night or the day before when I was playing a bunch of this. Now the game is out I can't connect at all. Furthest I got was a full lobby that loaded into a match only to instantly disconnect.

Weird. I have had zero problems all night. The matchmaking has been stupid fast for me, like actually really impressive.
Seeing all you guys having fun makes it getting REALLY tempting to buy the game digitally while I wait for my delayed GAME delivery!
I can already feel it not getting here tomorrow despite their promise...meaning I'll have to wait for my (months in advance) pre-order till Monday and will have stayed home all Saturday for no reason. Fingers crossed!
Also, can we expect a Giant Bomb quick look of this game at some point today? They really seem to be sleeping on it so far, save for the occasional tweet.

Have you tried going online in another Wii U game?
I have to imagine the router's firewall is the main problem here. Try port forwarding. Or enable DMZ for the Wii U on your router.
And no DAY 1 patch, hahahhaaaaaaaa!

Other Wii U games and the eShop and the browser from the console are working fine online. MK8 finds a global match instantly for example and works fine.

Will best Buy have that amiibo 3 pack or did you have to pre-order? Haven't really been following the amiibo stock situation.
Okay, that's strange. I would imagine Splatoon uses the same ports as Mario Kart. Try putting it in DMZ mode for the Wii U before trying the stuff after.
Do you have a digital copy? Maybe you have a corrupted download and should try downloading it again.
