Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

I was struck by inspiration and designed this.

It was a ton of fun to do. Definitely going to do more Splatoon-themed art. My girlfriend has logged more hours than me because I spend all my time doing art.

Man, is there any way to stop someone with an octopus power up? I always make a run for it when I see someone pop that. Seems a little overpowered.
Running away is the only option, really. It doesn't last for very long so you just have to wait for it to run out.

The general impressions I've been reading and the small part of the GB Quick look I watched pushed me over the edge to get this from the eshop. I honestly can't remember the last time I've got in to a multi-player game but this looks really fun and unique so looking forward to giving it a go when the download is finished.

Is it recommended to jump straight into multi-player or go through the single player? do you get unlocks by playing single player?

Would love to play with some gaffers later. Tried opening the spread sheet but it didn't work on mobile. NNID is nezumi1982
Please add me :)

Single player is worth the ride and you do get unlocks.

There are weapon unlocks you get throughout the single player and some gear for finishing it.

I'd recommend starting on Single Player, maybe only for the first couple of levels, just to get used to the gyro controls. I think the Single Player is a really good way of learning the mechanics of the game.

I think the scroll I struggled to find the most was the invisible platform level.

I only found it because I accidentally hit the hidden invisible platform with some ink

Got this game last night and played for hours, it's very addicting... can't wait to get back to it later.. I'm close to rank 9 ohpefully get to 10 very soon.

I can't wait for ranked battles because I want to play splat zone, that mode looked really cool.

They are not terrible. You are terrible at them. Crucial difference. :)
I feel like they would be perfect if I could control x and y with both. No matter how much I play with them I still try to move up and down with the stick then remember I have to with gyro then do it with the gyro then forget I can use the stick at all and I'm facing the wrong way and then I use the stick to turn my inkling and then forget I can't use up and down on the stick again because i don't exactly operate the best under pressure and it's just a mess. They're awful in their current state and super disorienting. I will accept the gyro into my heart if they just add that little option.

I need that on a hoodie, really. give it to the teefury guys and make some money! I'll buy it. even as a shirt!

also: team no-gyro. I can understand why people like it..but really I feel so sick after a few minutes.

I agree that it's odd they don't let you control the X axis with sticks while gyro is enabled. Still, I think it works great regardless. I use Y a lot instantly recenter the camera which negates the need for much of what I'd use the sticks for.

Maybe I just need to use y more. It just feels so disorienting and I never feel 100% in control. I'll give it some more time tomorrow. I can see why people like it. The precision in small movements is vital. I just spend so much time doing mental push-ups that I don't have time to splat anyone lol.

I got the game last night, I managed to play for quite some time. Today I finished story mode and it was pretty good but short. It reminded me of Super Mario Galaxy a lot. From the invisible platforms to the different moving blocks, to the octopuses that shoot things in the same manner as Bowser's airships... It even has that invisible platforms and a "space" feeling. The rewards are pretty good too, especially the one for the scrolls.

Other than that, it's a shame that there's so little content, for now at least. There are only 2 stages(I'm not sure how they change but I guess it's timed) and only Turf War. It got boring after few hours. I'd prefer if there was at least one more mode at the launch.

Overall, I'm not really impressed by the game. It's kinda fun, but I find it even more lacking than Mario Kart 8. At least in Mario Kart 8 you could race offline too and spend some time learning the game there. When I played my first regular match on Splatoon I was confused.

Confused about what???

Well, you guys converted me to gyro controls. Love em!
I definitely recommend taking a break from some multiplayer and doing single player. It forces you to learn new techniques.

I was level 1 and I was there with level 5+ opponents. Also, it was more fast paced that I anticipated. Both of those problems got solved pretty quickly though.
Sounds like overwhelmed is a more accurate word than confused. Because that's how I felt for the first few games.

I do agree the game is really lacking depth. It needs a whole load of DLC to bulk it up. Lots of free stuff to get the game to where it should really have been at launch and then paid DLC down the line to keep the game fresh.

I'd love more offline multiplayer. My wife and I would happily side with bots in a split-screen turf war.

For this one I didn't even know there were an invisible platform which lead to it, I just jumped from above

Thanks for the help I just had a quick match but I think i'll jump into the single player to help me get used to the gyro controls. Game seems really fun and I love the quirky presentation.

I'll add my id to the google doc - AmuroZ

Btw, two more comments. First, people complaining about no chat were wrong. The game doesn't need it. It's fast paced and matches don't last long, plus the team organizing, at least for the current mode, is minimal. Maybe a pointing system would be better. Touching a certain part of the screen to show to your teammates where to go.

Secondly, I think that most of reviews are way too good. The game has potential, but at its current state it's lacking. Personally I wouldn't recommend it to someone, especially for full price(and if I'm not mistaken US' price is more than Europe...) Putting low scores wouldn't be a solution though, but I'd prefer if they just posted impressions and no scores.

Yep, that's the right word, thanks.

Getting a lot of disconnects this morning, had to stop because I don't want to ruin other people's games. Hope it is better later.

On other news, holy shit the final boss is absolutely fantastic
!!!!!

So that blue box that appears when searching for people. What does it do? I know it increases as you win or something (Lukewarm, Toasty, Smoking etc). Does it affect anything?

Omg, I got to the very final attack of the last boss and he killed me, so frustrating. I don't know if I can be bothered to do it all again from the start. What do you get for beating him, is it worth it?

Gah, people need to put the snipers away for Turf War. I didn't understand why we were losing so badly until I saw their loadouts on the failure screen.
