you can turn the motion off and just use the sticks

You can use either the motion controls or the dual-stick controls. The motion controls are better, though -- you just have to get accustomed to them.

You can turn off the gyroscope. I wouldn't recommend it, but some folks are decent at the game without it on.

Weird never seen that happen. I have chucked a splat bomb to take over the splat zone just as the timer has run out and lost though. Any chance it was that?

Yeah but if you have control when the time runs out it goes into extra time until you either overtake the other team or they wrestle the splat zone back from you.

Maybe some lag, I've had a few times where I thought we had the zones for awhile and then suddenly it updates and we lost control and our counter went down for one second while to me it looked like 15 or 20 points should have went down

Edit: never happened at the end of a game though

Just played a ranked match where the team I was on only needed one more point to win. The match ended up going to overtime and the other team was able to bring it back for the win at a deficit of around 40 points. I swear this game is just pure insanity.
