Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

Has anyone ever seen a bunch of players with "N5★" leading their names? Joined a random room and there were 5 different people with that name. Wanted to learn to play Dynamo Roller tonight and it was the first match I had jumped into.

Ended up playing a very spammy-but-effective 13-5 round on the Skatepark against them, and they all scattered immediately afterwards. It was bizarre.

antigaf?

Now all the people I'm getting matched with are fairly low leveled instead of really skilled level 19-20s

Is the game trying to tell me something

I think I may have lost 6 or 7 matches in a row. That kind of really sucks. Then my Wifi decided to crap out. Now I'm just sitting here quietly.

Possibly, although not what you might think if you read the interview about the matchmaking.

I don't like the gals. They aren't fast enough for me. At the same time most of SplatGAF is basically telling me git gud and I'm ass at the brush so I dont even know anymore
Use the nozzle on small maps like the mall and skate park, save the brush for rig and dome. I'm a brush user, but the nozzle keeps the speed and gives you enough range to keep away from squelchers and test chargers. Daboss and violet are more fun when you can make them move from their perches.

Feels like a lot more people are playing this now than were about a week ago when I took a break due to work schedule. Really fast times now.

I change my mind constantly about this, but I am now convinced that Blackbelly Skatepark is the best map in the game.

The central tower, combined with the various wall ledges add a dimension of verticality to gameplay that the other levels can't match. Standing on top of the tower is a very powerful position, but the distance of the ledges and perches neaby (as well as how easy the column is to paint) makes it a dangerous place to camp. The upper grates near each team's base allow for some fun offensive pushes too. The ground has a nice combination of ramps, slopes, and hard right-angles where you can hide.

Good map, that Skatepark.

Do you guys mind if I join? I'm only level 6 though...
Add people from your region on the Google list, then add the people currently talking about being in game. After they add you, join their game in progress. And gaf rooms are the best place to try new weapons and strategies. Just don't be afraid to fail at first, because it might be all you do, at least initially.

Until you get a good dynamo on a tower and a decent supporting team. Similarly with a good sniper on the tower, but to a lesser extent.

Good games geg and vecks. Got to level 17 finally. Wanted to play more but the battery indicator on the game pad came up haha. That'll teach me to not leave it charged.
Also it seems the game doesn't want me to ever be on the same team as vecks haha

I tried to join your game before geg's but you disappeared from the lineup. I think.

Lucky you. I'm mostly on the losing team anyway. :p

I feel like most maps get broken by a "good Dynamo roller" though. :p

Although can a Dynamo reach the wrap-around walkable ledge with their splashing? I'm sure they could reach the lower grates and that wall edge, but that wrap-around ledge is a ways away. I think they might, actually, since a Squelcher can hit the tower from there and the ranges are comparable. You could easily get a Suction Bomb up there to make him jump down temporarily, however.

I'm not sure what else you could do there, other than maybe going through the grates in the middle and rushing them down? If they're patient and they see you, they'll just splat you when you get there.

I wonder, what is the best way to deal with that kind of situation? Thinking maybe a Suction Bomb first and then trying to push forward while he regroups?

Everyone who wants to join in on games just feel free to add a bunch of the people in the thread and just join. No need to ask or see if its cool, people invade each other's games all the time.

Feel free to add me NNID: Xetehlol

lol this was me on Friday. Me + Japanese randoms vs. a team of Totakeke, BlueSilver, Crayolan, and SM239

Also this may be a dumb question but who is GuySloth on gaf? His name isn't on the spreadsheet

At B+ around 46 score, said alright, I'm almost done, I'll play until I lose. Proceed to win 5 more games in a row to reach 96. Then on 96 score get matched against a whole team of A players when my team is 3 B+ 1 A-. Proceed to lose the game and lose 6 points. Now I'm at 90 but I'm going to call it quits.

The matchmaking system is the devil. It tries to float you when you are on a losing streak, then when you are on a winning streak it'll try to stop you from advancing.

...sounds like it's working

A good dynamo roller would be more focused on area denial when he's up top. Keeping everyone away from reaching him and preventing everyone from running through the central area is important. Splatting isn't as important. When you can only fight head on without flanking your chances of winning are slim. Everyone can see what a charger is planning to do from a mile away in that situation, but no one expects the inkzooka.

Zero I saw you disconnect right in front of me D:

GGs guys that's it for me for a little while
:(
Add me dammit! NNID is MiguelBudag.

GYYS GUYSSSSS I understood! I finally got it! Inkbrush = best weapon in the game. Seriously just fuckin fun, it's like the weapon suddenly clicked with me, doing 1100+ every match is so awesome, and that was without using NinjaSquid!
I'll keep going tomorrow, got a shirt with ninja, and a cap with squid speed, boots with strength.
If rollers are Ninjas, inkbrush users are Samurais!

Gonna take a break. I'll add some of you guys when I get back on later.

As for maps, I don't think I can really rank them. But my favorites would have to be Skatepark, Saltspray, and Mall. The ones I don't like that much are all the new maps. I don't really hate any of them though. I like the variety. And it's neat how each map feels totally different.

That's true, but if you can get him to come down a lot, it makes him less effective. I know poking people up there with a Squelcher (or Splattershot Pro) often makes people go away temporarily (even if it ultimately takes 4 shots to splat). The closeness of the platform still makes poking him with Suction Bombs and, ohgawdyes, the Inkzooka viable.

I guess you'd have to get rid of one of his teammates patrolling the puddles below and then make a move at poking/circling around him. Maybe get someone to distract him by going up the side hallway near the wraparound ledge. Those teammates roaming around are a problem.

Wait, there are specific GAF rooms? How does that work?

Damn, must have been when I got booted :( Hopefully I'll see you guys on again!

You can't even get close to hit him with something like the splattershot pro though without walking in enemy ink if he's doing his job constantly flicking. The elevation plus long range splashes can even deny the standard charger from reaching him.

Yeah but a good Dynamo user wont stay still at one platform. I'm always changing from high place to high place, spreading as much ink I can with the shot gun move, and keeping myself as a squid to avoid being targeted.
I'm surprised that as a Dynamo I barely use the actual roll of the roller, only when I know I'm completely safe, or inside friendly lines.

Exactly, what I love more about the Dynamo is that you can shoot your "wave" of ink across high obstacles. I makes very hard to your enemies get close to you.

Wait, there are specific GAF rooms? How does that work?

When you join someone, you go into their room. As other people join them, the randoms who aren't friends with anybody in the room will get moved to a different room. Eventually the room fills up with gaffers.

Nah, they start just by someone joining off of someone else and then people join them etc.

That sounds fantastic! Thank you so much everyone for being so patient and explaining these things to us newcomers =]

Sadly because of it some of us cant get in sometimes :(

It's not that your not good, I just don't think your playstyle is working right now with the brush, I feel you are too patient sometimes and just wait for people to come to you then half the time they kill you because they have range over you and you pretty much wasted 30 seconds. And as iv told you in the past you are pretty predictable, you are getting better at this though there are times when I don't see you coming. Just keep working on it we all can get better, this is my second day using gyro controls when I have like 150+ hours in the game using analog so I'm still trying to improve on that. I don't know how to give you exact brush tips because you know I don't use it so maybe someone else can give you advice on that one, just don't give up on it because if anyone is going to be the best brush out there my money is on you.

I'm just a bit concerned about you just saying that my style is just not working with the brush. The last time you brought this to my attention, I thought to myself that you were right especially since I was still in that early understanding of the weapon and still powered on forward thinking I'd get it. Now that I've had more time with it, I do still think that I have a ways to go, but I also feel like I can better articulate why I had such a mixed reaction to your advice.

You say that I'm too patient and my response is that in 3 out of 5 situations where people are inking forward in an area I'm stopped up in, my goal is to get around them and continue inking elsewhere or dispatch them on the spot from a different angle. I think the latter has seen a lot more success more so than the former with the only reason behind the former's failures being because most times GAF is very OCD about painting everywhere. (Seriously, even versus folks I've seen/dealt with in the higher B/B+ ranks or in general Turf Wars, GAF is still overall more consistent about "Always Be Coloring".) The "issue" with me being patient versus you specifically is due to the fact that you pretty much main the N-Zap and for every 10 seconds of in game time that passes, I'm tagged by Echolocation and the large majority of my approach options are immediately invalidated. As such, the best things I can do are "Red Light, Green Light" it, be as proactive as I can be with regards to the win condition and head back into base/previously covered turf for area to cover while avoiding your team's fire, or just Leeroy Jenkins (a strategy that is almost always the worst strategy; never do this anyone looking to get into this game).

Overall though, this experience did teach me a lot. I'm considering having a Cold Blooded speed build that would probably be more about being a constant harassment for the other team or even a Haunt build to counter play some team members hoping to take advantage of Echolocation's benefits versus being a general coverage concerned person. I'm also thinking about some other things that might require the new Inkbrushes to really shine.

Thanks for the vote of confidence though. I want that title of GAF's best brush. :lol

echo really ruins my usual dickhead sneaky jackass playstyle, especially with melee weapons

i really, REALLY want to be able to weapon switch without leaving the lobby. ead plz
