Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

Went against a team that didn't really seem to know what they were doing and I kept getting kills. They were newbs...

Best K/D ratio I've ever had in this game, lmao. I guess playing with GAF is some hyperbolic timechamber shit! I say that because I feel like I'm moving around way better than I have...

murderer!

The official twitter just tweeted that the game is receiving an update to version 1.3. Obviously this includes the splatfest change, but google translate mentions a balance change.

Prepare your butts. And your killer wails.

I think the highest I've ever gotten was against a team of >level 5's on Bluefin Depot and I brought the SNIPES with 13 kills and no deaths

That score is just ridiculous though omg

EDIT: Please nerf the Kraken and Gal weapons.

Kraken nerf. That's all I'm asking for really.
Doesn't need one. You can only kill things you can touch, and finding hiding opponents is a bitch.

The only thing I want is a wider killer wail radius. Hell, maybe cone it at an angel.
I wish it had another application though. Possibly removing ink on surfaces in its area.

That's awesome. That they have a unique (though incomplete looking) squid form and can change clothes/skin color tells me that they were probably experimenting with having them playable early on but then scrapped the idea and recast them as single player enemies.
Nah, that's just how Nintendo creates its assets. The Octolings are humanoid shaped and act as NPC Inklings, so they directly use the Inklings as a base and just rig them up with a different model and some input AI. It's easier to make changes to the Inklings and Octolings this way, because you'd only have to change one of them.

Looks like the patch messes with Ink Strike & Kraken.
Also Ninja Squid, Stealth Jump & Ink Resistance.

Oh, goodness.
I hope Ink Resistance doesn't get fucked too bad. I neeeeed it.

Good lord lol. Best I had was 11-0.

11-0 was my best in Turf War and 19-2 was my best in Splat Zones. That's quite good record you got there.

- Patch incoming on the 1st of July
- Something about matchmaking when taking a long time during the Fests. This section I kinda skipped over.
- Special Tuning:
- Inkstrike: Some kind of change to the impact area... not sure if it's too big or too small, lmao. (Think it might be too big atm?)
- Kraken: When firing on kraken, (I think this means the knockback effect will be stronger against Krakens)
- Gear Power
- Ninja Squid: Slowing movement speed in ink further
- Stealth Jump: Time to super jump increased
- Ink-Resist Shoes: Reduced effectiveness
- Other: Other things to ensure a pleasant user experience

I'd translate some of the patch stuff but I'm busy playing now. Maybe later if someone else doesnt get it

edit: never mind lol

guessing ink strikes will only count if they hit before time is up now

Don't even bother trying to read them with Google Translate. This is the first line of that page.

"July 1, 2015 , will deliver the update data (Ver. 1.3.0). We apologize for the fingers are now placed in the customers, so that you will download the update data, thank you."

Gross Nintendo.

I can understand that, but why would they have a unique squid form? The one in the video is different from both the standard squid and the octolings' "octo form" in the single player.

jeez, way to nerf my current setup there ;_;

If that makes it so I can shoot away a Kraken as a charger for once, then I'm all for it!

I also hope the Ink Resistance isn't too much of a change. It's one of my favorite skills :(

The problem with inkstrike is that in many of the splat zones you can completly retake the zone with one well placed inkstrike, I've had games where were are on overtime, about to get the win, and a enemy launches a ink strike to retake the zone and win after we take out all other enemies.

Decent nerfs. I think the current meta seems to revolve around a lot of those abilities (Ink Resistance, Stealth Jump, and Ninja Squid) in particular, so hopefully small nerfs will make lead to a little more variety in the setups. Cold-Blooded has been getting a lot more popular lately, so I could see it pushing even farther in that direction (away from Ninja Squid).

I disagree, it should be a panic button that forces you to retreat or at least require aim like the bubble shield as opposed to just swim around and insta-gib on contact. It's the definition of pure cheese and too easy to use effectively. I had a few matches last night where 6 out of the 8 players were all krak-on rollers. 0_o

I also kind of hope the patch gives some sort of penalty to inkling jumps. I'm sick of seeing the entire server bunny hopping around lol.

Edit: You can tell this is worked on by a younger team because they give patch notes lol

.
Really not a problem when lagging rollers can just transform right in your face -_-

And when combined with echolocater I've seen my entire team wiped out by a single talented Kraken. Invinibilty+ink trail+OHKO is just too OP.

Goddammit, that's 2/3 of my main gear skills >:(

Huh, these changes seem kinda unnecessary. Like the gear abilities are good but I don't think they need to be nerfed.

They need to patch 3 maps per rotation...

Nintendo gives Patch Notes, now (instead stability)

So, is there any info when this update available?

July 1, 2015 , will deliver the update data (Ver. 1.3.0). We apologize for the fingers are now placed in the customers, so that you will download the update data, thank you.

Well then.

The guy that hacked Splatoon to get black/white ink has managed to replace the Inklings with fully playable Octolings.

There doesn't seem to be any kind of texture for their eyes blinking though so it seems as if these characters weren't fully designed to be playable. Plus, of course, most of the headwear clip right through them. Looks like if we're ever going to get any playable Octolings it'll probably not be in this game unless a huge overhaul update happens.

EDIT: Didn't finish watching the video fully and didn't realize that there is footage of the Octoling unmasked after all. Bit more complete than I first assumed.

Fucking adorable.

Damn! I wanted to/still want to play as an octoling, what I saw of their octopus-form looked super neat. I wonder if it's scrapped content or stuff they may still work on/add later? Either way it's neat!

You already have reduced movement speed when bunny hoping.

I'm glad they're further nerfing the ninja twins, and the ink res nerf is a pleasant surprise.

they still gotta jump and know where you are, so

This I largely agree with.

Yeah, I think the Kraken's the only one which needs a nerf, and maybe the fact that the Killer Wail has such a long range and even cover won't protect you. The gear is mostly fine.

You can add me if you'd like, I've been hopping around rooms I see that are open.

NNID: BlivantheSanic

Well there isn't a spreadsheet for specifically the most active, but folks have been adding their NNIDs to the spreadsheet found in this post:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=166602253&postcount=6

I've missed a night or two since launch, but I've been playing pretty consistently! My NNID is CoconutTank if you ever want to play. Please do mention if you're from gaf and whom you are though!

6th post on this thread. Quote it to reveal the hidden document.

Thanks for all the helpful info! Whoever would like to add me, feel free: MistressMoitie

Coconut and Ivan, I'll add you to my list :)

Seriously though, ink resistance was ridiculous as is, so it's probably for the better they nerfed it. And I guess they had to nerf stealth jump too so that everyone wouldn't jump immediately from one to the other.

if ninja squid slows to the same as stealth normally you might as well equip something else and just manual stealth all the time.

not that you'll remember it in the heat of battle, but

I think that they're nerfing those abilities because they're just so useful compared to most of the others. Since I got my 3* ninja squid shirt and 3* ink resistant boots I haven't swapped them out for any other gear.

For inkstrike I hope they keep the same area for damage, but yeah, for inking it swings the splat zone too much IMO (also annoying at the end of turf wars).

The kraken repel at the moment is a bit weak, so I think that's a nice change. Kraken should really be less about killing, unless you manage to sneak behind.

The other changes... well, I think they're fine. I don't think ninja squid or stealth jump really needed a nerf (ink resist shoes, however, was a given), but in the case of all three I feel it'll just be a minor change.

I don't mind the nerfs to the ninja abilities. It sounds like they're probably giving it enough of a hit that you can't just easily offset it, making sure you really are giving something up if you want to make use of it. And ink resistance is just so good. I won't be surprised if Cold Blooded's effectiveness is reduced at some point too. I like the idea of putting the main-unique skills closer to the level of the sub-able skills, makes for the potential of more varied builds in the future.

I wonder if Nintendo collects match data about what kinds of gear/skills are used most often? If they look and see that like 70% of players within A-rank are using ink resistance, for example, they probably want to do something to try and balance that back out with the other skills.

Please nerf kraken

I feel like people who think Kraken is too strong haven't used it. Anyone with any reaction speed can get away from it. Otherwise it is you getting caught by surprise and that is a situation when anything would kill you.

I wouldn't be surprised if they had some kind of polling data, given how users end up in each others' plazas and stuff. I see so many White Anchor shirts and those blue Rockenberg boots whenever I view peoples' gear. Nintendo had to have noticed.

(If Stealth Jump sucks after the change, I kinda want to try Recon more. Too bad it's a clothing-only ability.)

Cold blooded shouldn't be nerfed as it only applies to one trait, one sub, and one special.

You're not getting any benefit out of it if the opposing team doesn't have a tracking anility.
