Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

- Having to carry my team to get a win is frustrating. Feels like I can't just have an "above average" game and get a win, it has to be god-like performance.

I feel this a lot especially now that I'm generally playing with higher level opponents. While at the lower levels I felt like I could kind of coast through playing normally and doing my own thing but now it feels like teamwork is a lot more important even in turf wars. One bad teammate on your side can be devastating

The disruptor description says it lowers abilities. But what exactly does that mean? It sure doesn't feel like it lowers damage output or defense.

Well, the most noticeable thing is it makes you really slow. Not sure exactly how slow, as people don't use it often, but if I had to guess, maybe half the speed because it makes them look like they are walking. When I get hit by it, I also feel like my ink efficiency goes down, like either my recovery is slower or the shots take more. This is something I can't confirm, but it sure feels like I run out of ink faster when I get hit by it. There's also the added advantage of targets being visible in ink, as they show up as a black hazy spot. It's no point sensor, but since they are slowed down, it makes them easy targets if they are trying to run away.

Matchmaking is not just level dependent. I created a new character today and it was very obvious. The first few games I was in groups of lvl1-8, but once I got a streak going, very soon I was paired up mostly with level 20s even when I was only lvl4-5. From my brief experience, I don't think there's any issues with low level matchmaking. There are still enough people in those groups. Just that if you're good enough for low levels, you'll immediately find yourself wondering why you're paired with 20s.

I guess that explains why I'm the only low level against 15+ people after a few matches.

Hmm, so I guess if the squid isn't running away, you throw a disruptor on them and then flank them? Otherwise maybe it's useful against ink-heavy weapons. Seems kind of useless to use it when you go head on.

I just played the most bat shit insane match on Bluefin. It was the last match I had before making it back to B tier. That match has also made it so I will never play a ranked match on that stage ever fucking again.

Two snipers set up from the north and west most upper areas. A hyper aggro roller. A Dual Squelcher user that would ninja out and kill off my team before we even made it to the zone. In the middle of all of this was myself hugging the walls for dear life and throwing Sprinklers under the train bridge. It got so bad at one point, I had to nearly forfeit 25 seconds of time to the enemy to come around from the right side and dispatch the two snipers perched on their base's ledge. It's fucking stupidity to engage a team of 2 or more snipers on that stage, I'm convinced.

Totally. I feel one of the biggest problems is the lack of "feeling out" your teammates people do in higher ranks. When you have no way to communicate you have to be perceptive to what your teammates are up to.

Like in Port Mackeral you need at least one person to defend your zone to make sure no one sneaks back. It's really important. At the start I'll defend it or see if anyone else is going to do it and I'll adjust my tactics from there. I feel like most randoms never do that, they just run straight to the zone in the other side and forget about ours.

Gosh.. am I imagining things or are the scoped chargers have less of a hit area because you're zoomed in? It feels much harder to hit a moving target.

I know 100% it slows them down, decreases their jump height, and marks them for your team to see even when under ink.

I think it decreases their ink recovery, and increases their ink expenditure.

I'm not really sure but I get the feeling it decreases turning speed, as disrupted people typically have a really hard time reacting when attacked from behind.

As someone who uses disruptors regularly, they're useful for flanking and ambushes. If the enemy sees you, it won't be any use unless you have a big height advantage. If they don't see you, you can use it and run straight at them (or jump down on them, more often) and they'll typically be dead before they even realize what's happened.

Also, disruptors seriously fuck with rollers and brushes. Because of their need to run around to spread ink effectively they become sitting ducks just waiting to be picked off.

And if someone (especially a brush) is trying to run away you can lob a disruptor in their path and stop them in their tracks, then go on over and finish them off.

They're pretty useful when you know how to use them.

Guy on my team just got 0 points yet 4 kills. Didn't even know that was possible.

Disconnecting at any point in the match leaves you with 0 points. So someone can stay up til the last few seconds and contribute a lot, but then disconnect and have them show up as 0 in the results screen

That feeling when you're B, one point away from B+, in a rank match that you're winning by a hair and the endscreen comes and "You've lost the lead" suddenly pops up.

I had a guy with 1200 points on my side today with 0-0 stats. I've never seen our side of the map so well/fully painted before.

Wah.. headache. I guess i'll jump ingame in a bit.

Need to put the Splash-o-Matic on the shelf and brush up my Inkbrush skills. :)

Almost lost that game, keep getting sub skills which I dont need.

I use a bubbler and roller pushes me off the ledge in the Oil Rig map...
