Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

Hmm....no maps unlocked. I guess we'll see either Camp Triggerfish or the Skyscraper next weekend for Splatfest.

Datamine Info:

Carbon Roller - Burst Bombs & Inkzooka

Custom Dual Squelcher - Squid Beakon & Killer Wail

YES! I've been hoping for either a squelcher or automatic weapon with squid beakons for soooooo long! That loadout will definitely be my ranked mode go to weapon.

- Kraken nerf was expected

And entirely unnecessary.

It's already near impossible to kill level 20 Japanese players with the Kraken, they are quite good at avoiding it.

But at least you can use the Kraken to push thru choke-points. Once it's nerfed, I doubt even that will be effective.

Certainly sounds like a great support toolkit for ranked. On the other hand playing support in ranked tends to disappoint...

Yeah that is the...unfortunate truth. If I'm in a room with good players I'll probably provide support but if they are all crap like half the time then I'll just place beakons for myself to squid jump to.

If I can push them back like the bubble I like this change.

watch them make the kraken completely useless. The bubble users don't have to be in melee range to get kills and can fire back ...

oh and I already almost get stopped by .96 Gals or Dynamo rollers (and a number of other weapons), now imagine you can counter every kraken by simply firing on them

The nerfs seems more because they were actually good abilities and everyone and their mother used them instead of other useless crap than really being OP (because they didnt give you automatic victory), and they want people using shitty ones to diversify.

IMO not a good way to go, what they needed was to improve the bad abilities, not make the good ones worse to level all into shitiness.

Will try to see what they have done with make the swiming slower now, If you cant scape krakens or rollers with it now, the ability will go into shitty territory.
And I never use kraken but I already think that nerf is bullshit. Krakens where not that good when you knw how to scape them.

Those are mutually exclusive abilities; you can't have Stealth Jump and Ink Resistance at the same time. That's why Stealth Jump is so underused; because everyone and their grandma is busy using Ink Resistance.

Increasing the time before a stealth jump isn't neccessarily a pure nerf. There are ways to use the jump that rely on your target dieing before you get there

You are right, but I think Ninja Jump would have only been useful if it was an option on some other gear. You really need ink resistance if you are relying on your team to die before you end up in the fray.

I'm not too sure about that, I still get triple kills against A ranked opponents with the Kraken. The main problem is not utilizing it at the right time. And with Ninja Squid being nerfed I bet the new meta will be Squid Speed up thus allowing for faster traversal while in Kraken form.
The main thing is how good the knock back effect on the Kraken will be, if it's similar to Bubbler - I would say this nerf is too severe

It's all about using it at the right time if you want to get kills - whether it's after Echolocation or when you were able to flank your opponents. Mainly it can still be used for a defensive tool. We shall see in a few days anyways.

I think in the hands of a good player the Kraken is too good - my whole sub skills in the gear right now is all about maximizing how fast I get it and how long it is.

If they are going to kill the kraken's effectiveness, they might as well replace it with the bubbler.

At least then we could fling paint at the enemy or swim in the ink to avoid their fire.

Fuck yeah Custom Dual Squelcher time!

Though I'm kind of conflicted because on the one hand SQUID BEAKONS YES

On the other, no Echolocator :(

Except there is nothing to improve on the other abilities, they're fine as is.

The drawbacks of those stealth/ninja abilities were negligible. And Ink Resistance Up is pretty much the best ability in the game having a huge effect on damage and speed.

And then the Kraken nerf is hardly a nerf. Who is actually going to shoot at a Kraken if they are not a safe distance from it.

In my experience there's usually not more than one person on any given team with cold blooded equipped
Read your post wrong sorry, though you were saying that it scary that it has an ecolocator but you were actually saying it has no ecolocator, lol

you can stop the kraken now with some weapons for almost the entire duration of the special. If they increase the knockback, you might be able to stop them completely. No reason to use it over the bubbler then, which already is the best special in the game

Inkstrike: Fixed the bug where the painted area differed largely based on the location of the impact. (Altered translation credit to /u/Arbaal)

is this was the best translation we got? doesnt seem like a nerf? I've seen it happen, sometimes the inkstrike paints less ground that it should if you dont target an open area

So far aside from Port Mackerel coming three days after launch all the maps have been spaced 9 days apart. Last new map was one week ago today so we'll probably get it sunday or monday.

I'm pretty sure Kraken can only be push back while it is attacking.

Edit: What TV do you guys use? Just curious since I'm stuck on my 19" LCD SDTV for now until I can get the Wii U wired near my HDTV. I'm asking because I'm curious if you notice input lag, especially on Chargers. At least the TV I'm using has almost no input lag. Gotta count for something, right?

One of the Splatfest changes is that they increased the amount of SSS you can get if you are on the losing side but have reached the highest or second highest Splatfest rank.

Yea, I know, but it happens so rarely and if they're focused on stopping a Kraken, then that means they're distracted from whatever the objective is. It is much better to run away so that another enemy teammate doesn't pick you off while you're taking on the Kraken.

The Kraken is much more mobile than the Bubbler and it can get kills. The knockback will unlikely be as big as the knockback against the bubbler.

I think knockback is increased when they are attacking, when not attacking, it is negligible.

Man, I can't seem to level up beyond rank B. Each time I'm there a streak of losses takes me back to B-(or even C+ on rare occasions). I also need to master more weapons and/or play styles for those times where I have to carry my team and my Tentatek Splattershot(my favorite 'all-purpose' weapon) seems to be falling short.

This is why I hope they add the ability to switch load-outs between rounds(even a 15 sec window limit would suffice). When you quit, switch weapons, and return to play again, you get an entirely different group of players with play styles that may - again - shutdown the new load-out you just chose, so you are back to square-one! My Tentatek is perfectly balanced for my playstyle, but you always have those matches where you just wish you could turn the tides with an inkstrike, or burst through the enemy line with a qraken and take out all their spawn beacons(Salt-spray Rig, behind the zone), or even strategically place beacons of your own. I guess this is the result of currently not being able to set team matches up, so your team is rarely diverse enough to handle all the tactics the opposing team may employ, and you can only do so much. Need to try some Gaf matches!

50" LED. I don't know if there's lag or not but if there is, I'd say it's negligible.

I'm constantly amazed how how many people are awful at this game. I see people above level 15 struggling to get over 500 points a match. YOU SHOOT THE GROUND. IT'S EVERYWHERE.

Inexperienced players trying out new weapons + weapons that generally give bad ink coverage = gonna have a bad time

I'm sure some awful players are out there, but sometimes there could be other explanations, like; Trying out different weapons or playstyles, or allowing less skilled friends/relatives to play. I do both of these on occasions. The latter I would not try in a ranked game! Also, sometimes you just have to step away for a brief moment, and in Splatoon, every second counts!

So yeah, knowing I did all these things before, and how negatively it affects my score, I'm a bit hesitant to conclude it's always awful players to blame(in turf wars), even though I'm really tempted to do so. In ranked battles however, I'm often upset with my teamate(s). I also do audibly acknowledge when they do an awesome job, though they won't hear.

I do hope Nintendo are going to do something about bunny hopping. It wouldn't be a problem if that crappy aim-assist didn't keep on automatically moving your crosshair to the floor, stopping you from killing the annoying twerps.

Either allow us to turn off the aim-assist or stop people from spamming the X button.

I had enough of bunny hopping when playing CoD/Halo/[insert online shooter here].

The problem is lessened due to the game not having kills and deaths affecting your score but if a bunny hopper places himself in choke points it's a major pain in the arse.

there's no aim assist in this game, is there? I think that's just the sensitivity difference between the axes

I'm trying to break into B+ right now. That feeling when you get 12-5 for three matches in a row and lose the match every time. Team pls.

You know what, I wasn't in agreement that the kraken needed the nerf it's going to get, until today. Just had the most bullshit match of ranked possible, we were absolutely dominating and then all of a sudden the enemy team just started swarming with krakens. It got so bad that a few seconds after I respawned from a kraken death I ended up with another one mowing me down from behind, and then another. Of course half of the time they weren't even near me when I would just randomly explode, and we lost miserably because while they hunted us all down it gave a Tentatek user time to sit up on a perch we couldn't reach and rain ink down endlessly on the zone.

I have a 42" Vizio that has almost negligible input lag, but the 47" LG I had had somewhat noticeable input lag. My test is to use youtube on the Wii U and judge the sound difference. Anyways, that TV died out of the blue, so we're getting a 60" LG. It'll probably have the same amount of input lag, but I'm not the only one in the house, so I don't have much to say, especially since I'm not the one paying for it. =P

good on them
?

It sounds more like lag and the nature of Splat Zones as opposed to just the Krakens. They're ok at best in Turf War, unless you lead a coordinated strike on a key area with your teammates, such as the Rig's upper area.

There were nerfs? Where?

The nerfs isn't until the 1.3.0 patch which isn't out yet. Ink Resistance is getting nerfed (less resistance), Ninja Squid is getting nerfed (move slower in ink), Ninja Jump is getting nerfed (longer charge) and Kraken is getting nerfed (has Bubbler-esque knockback if you're being shot at). The patch also fixes an Inkzooka glitch where it doesn't consistently cover ground.

Aw man why nerf ninja squid and ink resistance :(

Inkstrike glitch not inkzooka, but yeah everything else is right

I hope the nerfs to Ninja Squid and Stealth Jump aren’t too slow, or at least can be counteracted with some speed ups. I cannot live without those abilities now. So many times I’ve taken someone out by diving into the ink and going completely invisible. I also love the ability to super jump without fear, rushing to the front lines to help the push without getting killed the second I land.

Here's my full translation of the Splatfest changes in the upcoming patch since I don't think anyone's done it yet:

-In the event that the timer runs out without finding anyone from the opposing team, a battle between members of the same team will take place. (I'm guessing that means just a 2 vs 2 turf war match)
*Even in matches between people on the same team, you still earn splatfest points.
*Splatfest's final results will only reflect points earned in battles between opposing teams.

-In the event you start the game before Splatfest begins, we've made it so you can begin participating in Splatfest five minutes before the starting time. (There are some parts of this bit I don't fully understand, but basically it seems to be to try to mitigate the chaos/rush of players coming in right after Splatfest's start time).

-This part was already translated, about how even if your team loses, you get an increased amount of super sea snails if you've leveled up your status enough.
