Splatoon |OT4| You're a detriment to your squad

My God, fuck Splatoon, the fucking point system and the fucking match making. You carry entire teams for minutes and get 1 fucking point. Then you get matched up with idiots and you loose 9 fucking points (or 7 because Splatoon decides it's time to match you up with A ranks) in one match. That's it for me. I'll only be playing squads or nothing at all. Can't stand this shit anymore. Getting to S+ is such a luck based shit system it's not even funny anymore. The devs must be rolling around laughing at people trying to get to S+.

Don't get me even started at S rank players who seem to have been carried there. Had some funny guy with the N-Zap with sprinkler. Did he use the sprinkler in Splat Zones? Of course not. On top of that, he died 10 times and killed one guy. 1. Ugh.

I ran into a guy like that in A+. Was an extremely tense match of splat zones on Saltspray Rig where after the first five minutes were up we held onto the zone for what seemed like another full minute in overtime before we finally lost control of the zone for too long and lost. Results come up and an A+ player on our team had only two kills and eleven deaths. This was in a room where everyone was either A+ or A.

So what's the deal with this Octoling thing that is causing people's stats to reset I'm hearing about? This true? Going to be patched out? Statement from Nintendo or on the Splatoon tumblr?
It is all bark and no bite. Consider it just the current cool thing to post on miiverse, right up there with "Splatoon >>>>> call of duty" and "am I a kid or a squid".

I also laugh at the thought of "trying to get to S+". It isn't an inevitable achievement nor a right to reach S+. Maybe the player just isn't good enough. Just ignore your rank and points, and you will have less stress. I treat ranked the same as turf war: I try new weapons and tactics, level gear, and rarely even look at the match summary or rank screens.

I do agree that there is a lot of skill variance at a every rank. I also come across the S player who goes 1/12. Sometimes I am the worst player on my team, despite them only being A+ and myself peaking at S+50 (currently S50 or so). Sometimes the player is legitimately low skill and sometimes it is just bad luck, weapon match ups, or incompatible tactics.

I do notice that I win more consistently in public ranked than squads. With squads, I am stuck with the same players for the whole session. So if we are incompatible or have a weak player, we will lose most of the matches. With public, the good players seem to stick around and the bad players leave, plus I can leave and join a fresh group at will.

It's even harder for a charger to carry the team, I found that I can carry much more consistently with a Krak-On - even though I can say I feel I'm pretty good with a charger nowadays. I personally enjoy playing with the charger more than any other weapon but sadly I find it extremely difficult to carry on TC/Rainmaker because team mates are incapable of protecting a lead when we are ahead. I push just so we take the lead and than watch my team die one by one with 20 seconds left instead of waiting for the enemies to come to an ambush point.

I do find that on SplatZones are the easiest mode for me to carry team mates - same with certain maps on TC such as Moray Towers/Camp Triggerfish/Walley Warehouse.

For me it's always hovering around S30 making it up to S80 than dropping down when maps I find difficult to carry on are in rotation. The only way to rank up to S+ for me is just to play maps I'm certain I can carry my team on. But I've given up giving a sh*t about that and just play E-Liter the majority of the time.

I know how you feel. S rank is too much of a chore to be enjoyable at time. And I'm sick of the matchmaking having a thing for putting four tentatek/octoshots on the same teams. They always seem to have that damn inkzooka...

Oh, I ignore my rank and points alright. But I'm mad about the match making per se. I just got mixed up with a bunch of S rank players, which is fine by me because I can get 3 or 4 points for a win. But then I get to over 80 points and Splatoon decides to match me up with A and A- players. A win gives me 1 freaking point and a loss costs me 9. It's bullshit and shouldn't happen. Let me play against S rank players only. I'd rather wait longer than have to deal with A ranks and all the bells and whistles that come with it.

The biggest problem is how long those matches can take. You carry those A ranks to victory, after running around the entire map, painting the zone, killing people, protecting mates - and you get one freaking point. The next match you loose within seconds - poof, gone are 9. You play 20 minutes to get 9 points and you loose them in 2 minutes.

Another thing that is annoying is the weapon balance. There is no fucking balance. How often do I have to go up against freaking snipers with my little Luna Blaster? Yeah, funf on big maps where I can't get close enough. And my mates have also short range weapons. When I have a sniper on my team, of course he is terrible and drags the entire team down.

So, it looks like I'll be out of my house for at least the next week and a half while the bathroom undergoes repair. I have decided to try getting in some Splatoon after work today, stopping off at home before I drive out to our temporary residence (a 45-minute commute). The basement is all dried up and I hooked the internet and wi-fi back up on Monday, so I'm all set for Splat Zones this afternoon!

I've been shaking from the withdrawal.

Definitely agree with you on the Point System. I've always felt that system like Dota/Splatoon where you get the same amount of points despite performing poorly and getting carried to a win will mean that ranks will not reflect the reality of the situation.
If you have a positive K/D or are 1st place among your team you definitely should be getting more points than that guy you carry who barely did anything but die all match long.

In terms of the Weapon balance I've always felt you should have two weapon/clothes load outs that you can change easily between matches. There should be the weapon next to each name and thus change your loadout to a different weapon if you see 5 rollers or 4 chargers in your lobby. Chance can be against you in such situation but it does balance itself out in certain ways during Random match making - since I've obviously had matches where the opponents were hopelessly outmatched due to the random team organization.

I never know if my teammate (or me) who dies loads is playing poor, or just had a terrible match-up. I always jump to the first conclusion out of annoyance, though the second reason isn't far-fetched. Most of the times I see (or get) something crazy bad like 1/10, the weapon being used is a Blaster or Roller, and the enemies just happen to have Chargers and Tentateks. Random weapon balance does crazy stuff like four Rollers against four Chargers all too often.

I need to know whatever you guys are doing in Splat Zones, that's the one mode I've stopped playing due to dragging down every team I land on. Only time I touch it is if Flounder Heights is in rotation. And I avoid it like the plague if Saltspray, Warehouse, or Camp are in.

I play with Beacon subs, that allow me to either take attention away from the SplatZone or allows my teammates to safely surprise opponents.
In terms of SplatZone my choice of weapon depends on the maps in rotation for example Krak-On Rollers are pretty bad on Camp Triggerfish, Mall, Depot(which can be dominated by Dynamo Rollers) and certain times they falter on Kelp Dome.
On the other hand Chargers are lacking on Flounder Heights, Skatepark(you cannot dominate the same way you can with a Roller), Urchin Underpass(after they changed the map) and certain times they falter on Kelp Dome.
Although I'm starting to be more effecting with a charger on all maps as I mainly play with the E-Liter/Hero-Replica/E-Scope but no way can I consistantly dominate the way I do with the Krak-on Roller.
So depending on the two maps in rotation I choose the more viable weapon.

I'm guessing most players are like me and are more comfortable on particular maps - I win the majority of Moray matches with both Roller and Charger. I win majority of Port Matches with Roller, I can dominate Trigerfish with a charger.

I feel that depending on the weapon you use certain types of rotations are simply not viable. Blasters/Weapons with Walls/Chargers are best on TC. Rainmaker is usually pretty bad for chargers since it requires more varied movement and positioning.
Beacons are always decent - simply because you cannot underplay the importance of being able to enter the fray without worrying too much about someone sniping you as soon as you land. On Splatzones they are I feel the best subs since they allow you to take attention away from the zone or enter the fray from a position people who aren't expecting you.

I view it as Japan stole the slot (three splatfesat at once? server would melt) and I'm expecting an original theme like Boats vs Trains (hang on the artwork would be awesome for that Tugs vs. Thomas the Tank engine...except I expect most players are neither British nor old enough to remember the former).

Lots of info and tips

Thanks, I'll take this all into consideration next time I try Zones. Haven't tried Beakons in the mode very much, even though I know they're a pain to face. I've tried the Dynamo, but maybe the maps were against my favor.

Today I changed my gear to reduced squid jump and respawn, because you get killed a lot in that mode and it helps. With the Luna Blaster I can kill a lot of people, sometimes 2,3 or 4 in a row and defend or attack a splat zone, so that's what I mostly do. Unless I have idiots on my team who don't paint the ground. Then I take my time to cover the important areas before I do anything.

I don't know how people get to S and have still not learned to cover the freaking ground in ranked. It's so incredibly important to have your ink on the ground so you can move freely around or escape if necessary.

When I die a lot it's mostly because nobody inks the ground. I'm pretty much dead if I can't catch people by surprise because of my reduced range.

Yeah beakons are almost a necessity in Saltspray splat zones. If the enemy team has beakons and you allow them to take control of the area to the north of the zone, you're gonna have a bad time

Right? I mean seriously everyone in ranked has played at least ten level's worth of Turf Wars, why isn't the concept of map control burned in yet? It doesn't matter if my team has control of the objective if we're surrounded by enemy ink.

Yes in Splatzones whenever you have taken the zone and aren't in danger look at the mini map and ensure there are no beacons placed, if there are you should prioritize dealing with them. One person can place a maximum of 3 beacons - if a beacon disappears while you are going to it from the mini map - expect to meet at the very least one opponent.
Once you are able to shut down a team with Beacon users they have a very difficult time regaining control.

If you are playing against Rollers always keep your distance - you want to out flank them as opposed to getting into a direct confrontation. Rollers suffer if your team dominates in terms of turf on the map. They can't ambush you if there is no paint of their color and they are very much not efficient. Also they are very much at risk while painting since they can only run over opponents.
The best way to deal with chargers is to prioritize their eliminating them, by flanking them. If you are in their cross hair try to get to cover but try not to get to them in a straight line.
If you are playing against Blasters, either dispose to them from range or try to get real close and personal with them. I would recommend retreating if one is closing in on you.

Cold Blooded is the best ability for a shirt in Splat Zones regardless of the weapon you use.

The lack of inking territory is precisely why I have resigned myself to always using a weapon that turfs. Splattershot or Jr, Splooshamatic.

The ironic thing is that the current metagame has swung so far into using cold blooded that using cold blooded is virtually useless now since no one runs echo locator.

I see all the Echolocators when I change my Gray Sweat out to something else. Makes me believe that the ability is still used a good bit, but we don't notice it much since it doesn't last enough to really register.

I dunno about that. I admit that I'm not S ranked, but I think the E-Liter and the Scoped E-Liter loadouts are going to stay forever in the competitive consciousness of Splatoon, and due to that echo will persist.

Jr is always fun, but I am not so sure about it for rainmaker. Arowana splat zones is amazing, though. I charge in, get bubble by the time I get to zone, activate it and just run around the zone taking control.

I am having much better time with 52 right now.

Okay... So I haven't played in over a week, what's with this sudden surge or people who can send like five seekers at once?

I feel like I'm wasting my Special when it's fully charged and I have to pick the Rainmaker because no one else seems interested in doing so.

lol, this is amazing

love this splat

Haha :) I had a kill in which I let off a Seeker, then the Seeker I release gets revenge on the kill cam before I respawn. It was funny because I released the Seeker while I was on our team's hill of Urchin Underpass, died on the hill, and the Seeker followed my killer through the middle to the enemy's wall.

I partly agree but I also think it's very dependant on the map. I think a charger in RM needs to act more as an overseer, stay behind the front lines and especially be ready to stop enemy advancement. I (try) to do most of the latter in early stages of the match.

My God, how narrow minded can people be. Always go the same route, alway die at the same place. Meanwhile I run circles around the enemy and spam the come here button, nobody gives a shit. Let's all die together huehuehue.

96 points, so close. Lost a game because our Brush user was a huge pussy and didn't advance once to capture a zone.

Also made a nice triple kill with the luna blaster. Went into the enemy zone on Port, planted a mine. 3 people jumped me, 2 got killed by my Blaster, the last one went boom from the mine.
