Splinter Cell Chaos Theory PC Demo is out!

It came from a German mag and one bit torrent site is seeding it currently. Can I post the link or is this against TOS?

I say post it. :P

Honestly, I don't see why there would be any harm in posting a link to a demo. The entire purpose of such a thing is to convince people to purchase the full game. Spread the link and help the team out!

It gets annoying to see a stream of posts saying "PM ME PM ME PM ME THIS UNALLOWED CONTENT (SCANS / NUDIES)".

No explanation is required, just don't do it!

Besides, you should listen to Olimario. But just this once. OkAy?

Clean demo, no spyware or virus. In english too!

Oddly enough, I'm most interested to find out how well they integrated Tobin's music into the game (if it is in the demo at all).

The demo is same as the Xbox one (lighthouse level) and the music is integrated in it (from the ost)

Game looks great (level is somewhat dark though!, sounds great, and plays great!

BACK TO THE DEMO!!!

The Xbox demo is so amazing... graphics and gameplay.

I bow down to Ubi Montreal... they shall now be known as Xbox legends. Nothing on Xbox comes close to what these guys are doing.

Just played some of the demo, very nice graphics with the night vision, heat vision and the other one (what the hell is that? You can see objects but see through people?), pretty good looking without these effects also.

The thing that impressed me the most was the sound, it sounds really really good with a 5.1 system. Might even top Half Life 2 and Riddick in the sound department.

Never liked the old games but this was quite fun, looking forward to the co-op mode, that’s where Im going to spend most my time.

I took a screenshot with the night vision filter on but it somehow gut screwed, the image is black and white instead of the greenish colour.

Beat the demo! Man that was good! God of War and this are going to hurt my wallet in March.

Awesome!

What graphics card are you using and what kind of settings?

The screens are bad quality because I coverted them from Bitmap to jpeg. Using Radeon 9800 Pro at Full Settings plus 1x AA.

BTW: The entire level is very dark!

Does anybody know when the OXM with the Chaos Theory demo will hit newstands?

Not sure, but those bastards didn't include my disc with my mag, yet again!!! I could have been playing the demo of this on my Xbox last night.

Damn it that pisses me off. They are gonna get a call from me.

I'm surprised : the new engine appears to have built in support for Anti Aliasing.

It's pretty hilarious how Sam's eyes look like they're budging out of his skull when the mission starts though.

lol @ the gaffots brainwashed to think low of opa-ages... many good posters and people over there... grow up children.

No one's been brainwashed. When UT2004 came out and we were having GA versus OA games, I checked that site out to see who I was playing against. And it's the worst message board I've ever seen. N this and N that.

am I the only one who is skipping this splinter cell game?

I was planning on it, but I'm willing to give it a go IF I hear the right things about it...

The single player campaigns in the last two games were not very good at all. The ultra linear missions with poor AI do not make for a fun time. I'm really hoping they went back to the drawing board and came up with something a bit more open ended this time.

I am interested in the soundtrack, as it IS very good, and I am also excited about the multiplayer mode (which was godly in PT). However, I need a good single player game before I bite...

Shader Model 3.0 is certainly..glossy so far lol

I'm trying to work out some kinks that seemed to pop up on my rig. Guess it's time to dive into driver testing again as some sets seem to do some weird shit on screen.

There's a shader 1.1 mode as well

Shader model 3.0 has the following options :

HDR rendering
Tone Mapping

Parallax Mapping
High Quality Soft Shadows.

I had a problem with AA not working with SM3.0 earlier, but I didn't notice the HDR option. Turning off HDR seems to fix the AA problem with SM3.0 though (it seems to have nuked most of the glossy look as a side effect as well).

I'm still playing around with it. on a single 6800 GT it certainly plays very well with 1.1 shaders at 1600x1200 with 4xaa and 8xaf.

Meh it looks good enough without HDR enabled. I'll try + get some comparison shots later (going to try + actually play the thing a bit instead of just tweaking around with the graphics)

working aa + af in a splinter cell game is pure gold though, this game looks a lot crisper with it on.

How does it run in SM3.0 mode? I'm using a 6800go (OC'd) right now on a 3.6 GHz P4.

Far Cry takes quite a performance hit, but still runs OK (benches a bit faster than a P4 3.2 GHz + 6800GT even). Is it the same story for Chaos Theory?

That's the EMF... Electromagnetic fields. whatever flashes on this vision, you can turn it off for a few seconds with the hand gun's new function. The hand gun has a e-beam. It turns green when you've successfully fired it on something that can be turned off by it. Red if it didn't work.

I'm happy you all like it. Some levels(towards the end) get Freakin intense(action wise).

I won't spoil you no more.

It's the same story with Far Cry more or less, play it with HDR off and you should be able to hit 1280x1024 with decent AA and AF settings with that rig I think.

with HDR on, that "playable" feel is around 1024x768 with no AA and no AF, which is about what most people get with Far Cry HDR as well.

and there is a noticeable difference with HDR in this game, certain objects show a reflective sheen on them.

BTW Nvidia SLI does not play nice with the demo at all (I tried AFR, SFR, and both have artifacts with no performance gain), it has to be run in single card mode until they somehow sort this one out.
