Split/Second Demo Out Now on XBLM

So what is this game (and Blur for that matter) doing that Forza and GT5P is not that makes it that the framerate has to be 30fps? Maybe Daytona, SuperGT and Sega Rally ahve spoiled me but I can only imagine what an eyegasm I would have with this puppy screamin at 60. That's all........I have vented. I have accepted Split Second at 30fps now : {.

well, there's nothing blowing up on the track in Forza/GT

Just played 3 races and found it to be pretty enjoyable.

I liked:

- Graphics looks pretty great. Frame rate seems stable.
- Power plays are awesome. There seems to be loads of route changers to keep the laps varied.
- Cars have a nice weighty feel to them. Driving them is fun.
- Enemy AI seems good. They took me off the road a few times.

I didn't like:

- Music. I really liked the songs in Pure. The music is pretty bland here.
- I think adding the ability to boost would make the game more fun. Power plays are pretty useless to those who are in the lead or far behind the other racers.

I hope that the full version will have faster cars and the ability to race to Remmidemmi. I mean custom soundtracks.

I am not losing hope over this demo.

Demo is coming to the PS3 11th of may.

Pure was a decent PS3 port, no significant differences.

Still exclusive demo's make no sense from a bussiness perspective at all (to me).

ahhh, thats good news :)

I played 2 races before I had to go to work. I enjoyed the graphics and the excitement of the explosions. But, I felt that the game had large periods of nothingness surrounded by short periods of craziness. It seems like the cars go too slow. Like others have said, the explosions happen so far in the distance that you don't get to have the satisfaction of seeing your opponent blow up every time. When I get home from work tonight I'm going to play a few more games. I currently have it pre-ordered and I'm sure I'm going to keep that pre-order.

ok so since some of you asked, these are my initial impressions

liked:
+the graphics are rather nice yup
+ the HUD yup
+ the shaky cam + all the post processing sucks + yup

did not like:
- not a dealbreaker, but the resolution looks like MW2 -- not sure if my eyes are fucking with me or not, but it's either no AA or sub-HD (it's still a rather pretty game though!) yup looks a bit low res
- it's really boring, there's not much going on save the odd power-plays nope
- the car feels slow and cumbersome and is not very fun to drive nope
- the Tier 1 powerplays are not very satisfying, and technically, neither are the Tier 2 ones as you hardly ever see them play out Nope
- the soundtrack. good god, why? dunno

I was pretty stoked for this game, but based on the demo this isn't even a rental.

Also, I liked (didn't love) Pure, I was always more of a Motorstorm kinda guy.

My 2 cents.

checked this out on my lunchbreak. lots of fun. looks great. i was worried about how the cars would feel after seeing gameplay videos. the handling is not slippery at all. the cars feel nice and heavy and the drifting model in the game is excellent. the drift feels just right. this game is insane crazy in the best possible way. SOLD!

I am really enjoying this demo. The controls are quite good and the track and racing is very exciting. My only questions are whether there will be enough content to justify this as a full price purchase and how the PS3 version will compare. I believe there are only 6 tracks in the full game.

Correction: according to the gamerzine split second PDF, there are 5 track areas on the map.

I like it. The handling could be a bit better and I wish it was 60fps instead of 30, but for the rest no complaints. Now to decide if I should buy this or Blur...

End demo sell screen: 12 Tracks (Matched the menu that was shown at PAXEast), and 72 areas total.

I found an article that says there are 5 different locations that you can race in. But, of those 5 there are 72 different events set in those locations. The 4 listed are Airport, Power Plant, Down Town, Docks, and a 5th one that hasn't been disclosed.

anyway, if you think Burnout went downhill after 2, try this demo out NOW!

my undying love for burnout 2 is solely due to the amazing crash mode (that got progressively shittier with each sequel and finally turned into that kamamari-ish nonsense)

still, i'll probably gamefly this

Damn I want to play this. Hurry up next week!

Hmmm... not a good sign.

Wow, you can even change a route for a second time. I collapsed the road around start/finish for a second time and it took me past the terminal and parked planes:lol

Feels a damn sight less frustrating than blur. I want to punch the moron who though of not introducing a grace period where you can get up to speed so you can avoid incoming attacks, but anyway! Cars need to go faster, I felt I had far to long to think about some of the power plays. Oh and it needs a boost button. Will add to my list of things to buy this month of: Skate 3, Modnation and the aforementioned blur.

I'll be renting GTA: Wild Wild West & Alan Wake me thinks.

Did not like the controls and the car did not feel very good driving it. At times there was a sense of speed but at others it felt incredibly slow.

Also, in many places the track is way to skinny where it should definitely be wider.

It;s not easy to say I love the PGR series, but Bizarre get's fuck owned by these guys, much more fun than Blur imo.

Nah, without a singleplayer Blur demo, or a multiplayer Split/Second demo, it's still hard to judge the better game for me.

I'd love to buy both, but that can't happen I'm afraid. I'm still playing Forza 3 too.

I don't see airplane control towers or planes crashing in either of those games and watching the trailer as you quit the game there are even more crazier stuff that gets blown up.

Awesome fucking game. Its kind of like Mario Kart and Need for Speed 2: Hot Pursuit(my favorite racer ever) meshed. I like it much better than the Blur demo. I wish it was coming for PC also though as the graphics look like they would be amazing on good PC.

Also of note (I do this at every other chance I get).

Trackmania Wii comes out a week before this, and Mod Nation Racers is the week after (Same as Blur)...

yes, i am going to reserve judgement until i play the single player of Blur. to me, the most important part of any racer is the single player. split second has earned my money but blur has yet to do so. i had a blast with the blur multiplayer but i would love to know how the single player is set up. the idea of split second's tv show is pretty cool. if blur has a good single player set up (doesn't need to be a story for a racing game, just a cool set up). i will reserve judgement on which is the better game until i have played both final products.

Kinda surprised no one is talking about the lackluster sound effects and quality.

Anyway, kind of hard to judge the game as a whole from this demo, but if it is indicative of the entire game, then it's a turd sandwich.

Graphics are about average for 360 racing games at this point, but it's way too slow and boring for something that is supposed to induce adrenaline and get your heart pumping.

I really doubt they will have an online component similar to or as awesome as Blur, so my money is on Blur.

So, I put in a 48 hours code to get this demo. It accepts it, and tell me to sign out and sign back in to make it work. I do that, and it's still Silver!! FFFFUUUUUUUU!!!

Tier 2 Powerplays don't seem to come fast enough, either for me nor the AI racers. At my best, I was able to get two off the entire race. Maybe the game needs more laps?

At any rate, I'm definitively going to consider buying this one. After watching a giant airplane crash and take out the entire racing team, I was hook. :lol

48 hour codes won't give you access to Gold Exclusive demos.

While that may be true (and god knows it is undeniably awesome), but a gimmick like that can not help me ignore the fact that the underlying gameplay -- as in, you know, the actual racing -- is slow and not very exciting.

I'll have to play it a little more, but I think Split/Second is a little more technical than what the trailers would have people believe. I don't think it's a turd sandwich. It's just not the sandwich you were expecting.

Are you kidding? The game looks fantastic imo. The amount of insanity going on plus the game has an overall nice visual style to it.

That being said, i've been eagerly anticipating this game since its announcement, but I found it disappointing. I was getting bored after a couple of races, shit flying everywhere...doesn't feel like there is any strategy to it.

I can see it being a fun single player romp once it drops in price, but for multiplayer I think Blur is gonna be more fun in the long run.

I am having a hard time telling if I like it or not. =\

On the one hand it is pretty exciting and some of the explosions and track changes are cool.

On the other hand something about it (maybe the controls) just doesn't feel right. Also I find it's a matter of luck whether the events you trigger actually take out other people.

I just checked the demo out. Nice handling, forgiving physics (which is good IMO), AI is a bit on the easy side, good visuals, power plays are a tad unimpressive, but oh so satisfying when involving multiple opponents. Shortcuts are nice.

All in all, a good first impression.
