Wow, Trinity Blood was *abysmal*

I really wasn't expecting anything good, but jesus it's terrible, pacing was shit, felt really stilted and awkward all the way through.

Wow since everyone's still pimping their favourites... after first 3-4 episodes; Futakoi Alt. > Honey & Clover >>> Emma >> Eureka 7 > *
FutaAlt is work of genius no matter what anyone says, and H&C makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside heh, it's also sad seeing 15 groups working on Tsubasa while noone wants to pick up H&C :(
Emma is still rather excellent, though I'm starting to get slightly irritated by her character, and Eureka 7 is... well, still fun. Third ep of SpeedGrapher turned that show from 'promising' to 'plain out stupid' for me, animation/direction went downhill aswell. Will stop watching Tsubasa too, can't take BeeTrain torture any longer, and probably continue with HIMM and Gokujou Seitokai for errm... 'guilty pleasure' reasons.

After watching Eureka 7 episode 2, I'm not sure I can stomach it anymore. I love Bones, I really do, but the mecha look so aweful and this whole sky surfing thing is just so damn ridiculous now. Nothing even makes remote sense. At least give us some background or something to help people.

This is easily Bones' worst project since Wolf's Rain.

wtf?

Mars Daybreak anyone?

Mars Daybreak was pretty good. Great cast, good comedy, nice art, strong directing. Story was pretty light, but it was a good episodic watch.

Personally Kurau was the only Bones show that's turned me off. I've stuck from start to finish with everything else they've made, but I abandoned Kurau about 9 or 10 eps in. Didn't like the main 2 characters at all :(

But Culex you are a crazy man if you think Eureka is a bad Bones show. It's the first show to successfully rip off FLCL, successfully rip off Eva, and have a better lead character than both of them! The main character in Eureka is AWESOME because he DEFIES ANIME CLICHE', he's not afraid of women or some stupid tough guy; he's just a straight foward likeable kid and you can see where the girl is coming from when she develops feelings for him.

about to watch

Eureka 7 episode 2

Futakoi Alt ep3

Love Hina manga note: After reading many threads on many different manga fan sites, I have to say this is a hell of an overrated manga :( does it get any better? I'm only on volume 3. So boring compared to Ichigo, Pastel, Aishiteruze Baby, ect.

I have to say I liked the LH anime, but it was one of the first harem genre shows I had seen, which may forever reflect on my opinion of it. I found the manga to be much more frantic and sometimes even hard to read as a result, so I honestly only read the last two volumes to get a good cap to the series (since the anime ends earlier).

Bebpo: You didn't miss much with Kurau. They had a really interesting concept, but none of the characters really evolved and explanation of just what the hell was going on with the backstory was never forthcoming. Like I mentioned before, Daybreak had heart in the form of the well-meaning if a bit thin story. Kurau had soul in the form of a cast and story fueled almost entirely by an emotion, and sadly almost nothing to build off of it.

Maybe I need to take a second look at sutepri.

Love Hina Manga owns me. One of a few mangas that I read in 2 straight days. I just couldn't put it down so to speak.

If you're want more of the love story / comedy mangas then also check out Kimugare Orange Road. But there's an anime for it also.

Watching Trinity Blood, was good. Not GREAT, but it wasn't bad either imo. The main problem is it feels like a knockoff of Hellsing all the time, even though it's a rather original worldview and the designs themselves are great. I'll give it a few episodes to stand on its own, if not into the Gonzo dustbin it goes. :D

Speed Grapher 4 rocked btw, Rubberman vs Cameraman = own! :lol

slayn

needs to show more effort.
I enjoyed episode 2 of eureka more than 1... not really sure why. I don't really like the main character at all though. I'm incredibly sick of the whole, "kid feels 'held down' by his boring life and needs to prove himself" kinda story. The 'father is a neglected hero and he needs to follow in his footsteps' isn't helping either. Surfing mechs are kinda... eh... as well.

But I do like the animation though, and I suppose I can watch it if I'm bored.

I think many shows start off in a similar way but the great ones always get better. I like the characters, animation and music so I can't wait for ep 3 :D

I'm still going to watch the series, I just don't think it's up to the same calibur as Kenran Butosai: Mars Daybreak. Like I said previously, the animation is really great, it's just the damn absurdiness of the skysurfing that's irking me.

I'm not trying to derail the thread (again) but there's no where else I can post this so thanks in advance. ;p

RahXephon...

Just found the AnimeOnDVD thread and ga's duckroll made everything clear in the 2nd post. @_@ :lol

however, I'm still not sure about a few things...

1) So ayato tuned the new world, one where he's (and NOT itsuki, he just looks like him right...?) living with haruka and everybody is alive (mamoru and hiroki for example) and happy. So, uhm, did the 'God' rahxephon just disappear after the tuning and 'sent' ayato's soul to be reincarnated or something? Or did they become separate entities?

I can't get over the fact that after all that it's a happy ending, and done without compromising the build up to the last episode. Am I understanding this right?

2) The painting of the rahxephon on the wall, does that mean they all remember what happened and this new world is not some re-incarnation of everybody but a new beginning for the same generation that witnessed the tuning.. ? o_O;

3) Any official word from the director/creators of rahxephon on the ending - or anything else? Like the Eva red book for example.

man I never felt like re-watching an anime so close after finishing it. o_o

I can see now why crazymoogle gave it an S ranking, not an A or anything lower. Lots of games to play though so it'll have to wait until summer. I plan to see the movie soon but I’m not liking it being an ‘alternate’ dimension or whatever, I always hate it when story tellers do that. Somehow it makes the ‘first’ or ‘real’ timeline/dimension less real, even though I know it’s an anime.

EDIT:

Could it be that while everybody was reincarnated, ayato was left out because he became a God and it was itsuki that met haruka on the beach and fell in love/married her later? Jeez there's no reason why BONES couldn't have made it clearer.

To clarify:

1. Itsuki is an Ayato clone that failed the whole rahxephon compatibility thing, as I recall.

2. That's Ayato in the end, as if the whole Mu thing never happened. Presumably Ayato/RahXephon fixed up the world, ending the RahXephon "program" and placing ayato back in (because he is one of the people of earth, and hence needed for harmony anyway). Everybody who died during the whole fiasco is thus brought back, and certain relationships are left to fate.

Remember, RahXephon isn't a mysterious god - it's a god system designed by the Mu (or rather, one very specific guy thereof).

>I can't get over the fact that after all that it's a happy ending, and done without compromising the build up to the last episode. Am I understanding this right? <<

Yes.

>>2) The painting of the rahxephon on the wall, does that mean they all remember what happened and this new world is not some re-incarnation of everybody but a new beginning for the same generation that witnessed the tuning.. ? o_O; <<

I think that was a fate sort of thing, that his connection to Haruka is so strong that even the painting of her persists from the before and after. It's basically the symbol of them meeting.

>>3) Any official word from the director/creators of rahxephon on the ending - or anything else? Like the Eva red book for example.<<

RahXephon Bible is available in America, but it doesn't cover the second half of the series. I think there may be some strictly japanese books out there, but otherwise AOD is the best resource I recall to figuring out all the minutia.

I can see now why crazymoogle gave it an S ranking, not an A or anything lower. Lots of games to play though so it'll have to wait until summer. The movie isn't a favorite of mine either. It's too fast to work for anybody not familiar with the show, muddies up some plot points, and cheapens some others. On the other hand, in the SE box edition (besides the amazing box itself) it comes with an absolutely awesome series guide book/pamphlet that has an argumentative interview between the series director and Mamoru Oshii. (Oshii gives a beating that resembles constructive criticism).

Nope. Consider Itsuki out of the picture, as he's really just the failed shadow of Ayato.

Yep, A lot of people were confused by
Ayato at the end of ep 26, thinking it was Itsuki. But considering theyre both clones, not surprising ayato would look like that older. Seems this is one point that is missed by a LOT of people based on impressions I've read online. :)

Thanks to talking about the series again a bit back on IRC, I really feel like watching Rah again. It has one of the highest re-watchability factors of a show I've ever seen. Every time I finished it, I'd wanted to see it all the way through again :)

Last box for that came out. Need to pick it up to finish the show off and hopefully I can mentally imagine myself strangling Meiko and Namura.

On another derailing moment, Zetman rocks and jesus Vol. 4 is totally "What the fuck!?"

I will look for Orange Road thanx

Even though Shouta didn't like I''s, I still think you should check it out. Why? I'm a bona fide romantic comedy/drama fan, while he's a mecha/shounen action fan. ;)

I have read I"s

What I am reading right now that are just as good

Ichigo 100% (my favorite: this is a little frustrating to read)

Pastel

Open Sesame (I like this one)

Ai Yori Aoshi
Reading Ichigo 100% right now too, a bit irksome though - but I will probably read it until the end.
Have seen Ai Yori Aoshi, thought it was just about as good as Love Hina - the other 2 on the other hand was totally new for me.

If you want pure romance instead of that romance COMEDY stuff, go with:

Marmalade Boy and Kare Kano (ESPECIALLY).

These two series are up your veign instead of romance comedy stuff I'm guessing. It's certainly mine.

I think this thread should be renamed to general anime discussion.
Kare Kano is on it’s way to me right now (manga) - Marmalade Boy doesn’t seem that appealing but I will look after it afterwards.

I would not recommend KareKano (to anyone but that's beside the point) for romance purposes. It's not good in that respect IMO. I would go with Marmalade Boy, Kimagure Orange Road, or Hana Yori Dango for something in the same genre (or close proximity) to I"s (yuck) and Video Girl Ai (yay!).
I started to read Kimagure Orange Road last year, after about 12 volumes I was so tired of it that I just read the last volume and that was that - didn’t seem to miss anything at all anyway. And yuck to I”s? While it wasn’t as good as VGA it still was fine IMO - but I read I”s before VGA.. could be ‘cause of that.

Reading VGAi before I"s has a little to do with it but it also has to do with just how terrible the story progression is, lame plot devices, lame events, the forced character interactions, and a terrible female lead in Yoshizuki. Ichitaka isn't exactly keen beans either though. He's almost like an obessesive freak in a lot of his actions which made it sort of creepy but at least his intentions and mindset are admirable.

I'm really liking Tsubasa Chronicle. Surprising considering I really don't care much for most of Clamp's works. I went into knowing absolutely nothing about it, and I'm enjoying the shit out of it. This after most of you were damning Bee Train.

ANd for God's sake, why is it that there are like 12 groups subbing Tsubasa Chronicle, but know one has done Trinity Blood yet?

Love Hina is moving so slow for me... I read can read 14 volumes in like 2 days sometimes but some how I am not motivated to read Love Hina as fast. Maybe the ending will be worth it.

I netflix a Love Hina anime just to see... big mistake! Maybe it was just the crappy "Spring Movie" but the drawings in the manga blew that movie away. I stopped it 5 minutes in could not take it.

Do you guys get confused by reading too many mangas at once?

I find myself waiting on the next chapter (A) for weeks but then I'm reading something else (X) while I wait, and get very lost when chapter (A) finally comes around again. sheesh!

Problem is most of them have the same damn plot :(

I never mix up Naruto with Bleach but those romance/comedy manga damn, "Oh yeah he did not confess yet. Wait...?!? Wrong manga."

Welcome to the world of fansubbing. You've just taken the first step towards learning japanese and getting subbing skills. :lol

Foamed the KARAS RAW, looks good. Too good. :( So good I actually want to know what they're saying, so I stopped watching it. :D The main evil char has such a cool, haty-against-humans vioce. :p

Fansubbers, jeez! Sub some good anime!

Nah, anime isn't that bad. Manga is leagues better though but watch the anime first cause you couldn't be bothered to watch it if you already read the superior manga version.

man I am really reading Love Hina slowly... I did netflix the series but I want to finish reading the manga before I get the DVDs

Volume 4 really turned things around for me, I am enjoying it much more.
on to volume 5 :D

Is it me or are the Spring Animes coming out at a slower pace? I'm glad I have something to read or I would be pissed.

Where is my Club to Death Angel?
