just saw Honey & Clover.

Holy shit it rocks! It could turn out to be my favorite anime this season. Can't wait til ep 2!

Haha. Just got it; Suprisingly awesome!

In stark contrast to a bunch of other rubbishy recommendations so far.

Great humour and animation with pretty good writing gelling the show together!

slayn

needs to show more effort.
saw the first episode of trinity blood, looked pretty sweet.

70% Hellsing / 30% Trigun

I love the disarm/throw move the vamp does to the priest. That was sweet and really well animated.

Just watched Honey & Clover too, and this is some damn good stuff, and so effin pretty. Favourite part was the girl on the train and the following conductor announcement. Episode 2 can't come too soon.

Also watched Eureka 7 1+2. Best new show I've seen this year. Right up my alley.

Just watched the first ep of Aim for the Top 2...

Why isn't there more hype for it here? Even ignoring Fnord's snide comments on it, there's only one other post commenting on it!

It's like ... taken all the fanservicey craziness of FLCL, along with the animation style and mecha/monster designs and wrapped it around a light hearted Gunbuster sequel core.

Not bad at all!

I agree.

The animation is superb and looks freaking amazing on my HDTV. It has comedy and very, very mild fanservice; what's not to like? Sure, it's not the original, but I don't think that's what Gainax was aiming for, anyway.

Sidestepping now, Honey and Clover is really good. If you're a fan of any anime with less bang, and more expression/story/character, this is really the one to see. The faces the characters make are priceless.

Can someone recommend me any animes (older or recent) that are like School Rumble and Azumanga Daioh? I just love the comedy :D

Well, if you want school comedy, try Full Metal Panic Fumoffu or GTO (EDIT: woops, forgot Gokusen). But if you just want the damn best, check out Sergeant Frog / Keroro Gunso. (or gunsou...so many variations)

Konex, you have a fruity taste in anime. Do you know that? :D

School Rumble and Azumanga Daioh = Fruity?

DIE!

Anyway we need more comedies :D

I like romance too :D

I hated the last ep of School Rumble so much, I will boycott the manga ;_;

Episode 4 definitely proved my theory that Speed Grapher is not intended to be 100% serious to be totally correct (it's about as serious as a James Bond flick). I think I finally am really convinced that I really like this series. :D

Incase you missed a good comedy, Sunabouzu was a good one. But then Lunar decided to speedsub Bleach and dropped it. They got to ep 9 before it got licensed. =( =( =( PS. I missed ep 9, PM me if you have it. :)

Guys, I'll need your advice on this. I'm planning on following a Samurai based anime next and seek your recommendations. I've got 3 titles in mind

Samurai Deeper Kyo
Samurai Champloo
Samurai 7

Which one should I purchase first or which one should I avoid altogether?

I recommend Samurai Champloo!

I haven't watched the other two but I read a lot of negative reviews/impressions for Samurai 7.

It's ok to pick on Konex, but not at the cost of insulting Azumanga. That's the only tolorable anime I've seen in recent years.

What is School Rumble?

Stay AWAY from samurai deeper kyo. Terrible. Check out the manga instead if you're curious about the premise.

Samurai 7 is watchable, but I dropped it around halfway through. Nothing anywhere near exceptional, and some might call it blasphemous to the source material.

Champloo rox. First half of the series can go deep into cliche and is very hit & miss. Picks up in the second half and finishes strongly. Highly recommended.

Champloo it is then! Thanks guys. I've been catching up on a huge backlog of Anime that I've missed due to work commitments. Has anyone tried watching 100+ episodes of Last Exile, Gundam Seed, FMA in a span of 7 days? I have...and I'm yearning for more :D

Samurai Deeper Kyo. That Crap Sucks.

Samurai 7 I could live with. It got pretty interesting although I felt you had to 'suspend your logic neurons' with some of the unbelievable action near the end. Still a good time waster with action. If you go into it with an open mind and stop thinking about the Kurasawa movie, then it's not so bad.

Samurai Champloo had it's ups and downs for me. I felt there were too many filler episodes and it didn't really kick in the story till near the end. Still a very beautiful and at times cinematically masterful anime.

Edit: Although I enjoyed Video Girl Ai the anime, I felt they didn't do it justice being so short. :( The Manga is wonderful.

How are they filler episodes? Are pierrot le fou or black dog serenade or any of those Bebop episodes FILLER? Man, when there are like 4 episodes in the 26 ep series that deal with specific story elements I think the other 22 deserve to be considered differently. Especially when the story isn't based off a manga. It's not filler, it's the actual content of the series.

Yes, filler is content. However, it is mostly content that does not advance the storyline. Instead it interupts it the story's rythmn without any payoff in the overall storyline. Sure they could insert a short scene to tie it into the storyline but it's generally something we could have done without. I'm not against, say, character background episodes for familiarization's sake but you have to admit some of the filler episdes came out of left field (literally) and didn't add anything of substance. It was almost if they were trumpetting their stylishness, saying how cool we are to have such offbeat episodes. In conclusion, I thought the main story was excellent but not enough episodes related to it. Too much drifting from the main path. Gets much better towards the end.

They seriously need to do a few more eps of Cowboy Bebop as an OVA...

I mean, the series is perfectly structured to accept more 'filler' episodes...

Bah, Honey & Clover 2 was pretty disappointing compared to the first episode. Little girl is just annoying in this one and there's nothing that really made me laugh. Still extremely pretty and a cool, laid back atmosphere, though. I'll certainly keep watching. I want to know what Morita is up to, even if it takes 24 episodes to find out.

I agree. Hopefully it goes back to ep1 quality

BTW, when is someone gonna sub Karas. I downloaded the ending song and it's freaking awesome.

PS: This might sound crazy but I can usually tell if an anime is good by the quality of the ED song. I'm serious....not many bad animes have a decent ED song :lol

well i'm glad honey & clover ep 1 was as good as it is, because a lot of anime series suffer from crappy/boring ep 1 syndrome. Even if ep 2 isn't as good, we already care about the characters since ep 1, so I am still loving the show and want to see more. I'd love to read the manga as well if I can get a hold of it.

it's still the #1 anime for me this season by far.

tokyo underground (one of the best ed ever IMO)

And yes please someone sub Karas OMG.

Dead

well not really...yet
Eureka 7 is definately my best show of the season. And yeah the ED is great, as well as the OP. The ED single should be out pretty soon too.

The only episodes in Samurai Champloo that could be considered filler are episodes 12, 22, and 23, because they are totally goofy and out there and have nothing to do with anything (or are clip shows, as is the case with episode 12). EVERY OTHER EPISODE IN THE SERIES is non-filler. 23 out of 26 is a pretty good number if you ask me.

Anyone still watching Ichigo? I saw ep 5 yesterday and realized the series had turned into fanservice 100%. You know it's time to drop a show when they introduce the busty teacher who wants the main character. It started out decent too :(

Champloo owns everyone and everybody's everyone. So yah.

Shame. It's been doomed since it was announced it will only be 11-13 eps. I guess just read the manga on that one.

I've seen FMP:F and GTO but I started watching Gokusen and while it's not LOL, I'm enjoying it very much. Thanks for the recommendations :)

I'm not into zany stuff like KG seems to be. For example, I thought that Guu anime was retarded :p

I want stuff that's funny while having a decent plot and cool characters. Something that makes you feel a bit sad at the end cos you don't get to watch those characters anymore. Like Love Hina, KareKano, Azumanga (No more Tomo hilarity *cries*) and GTO to a lesser extent :D

I really liked Speed Grapher ep 4

I'm enjoying Speed Grapher too, but I'm kind of disappointed by this season.. although (judging by the list at the front of this thread) there's lots of new shows, only a couple of them have really grabbed my interest.

I'm hoping that the recent release of Keroro Gunsou episode 7 by Soldats means they're going to start subbing more than one ep every six months...

EDIT: hah, just after I posted this, the sub of Speed Grapher ep 5 showed up.
