Oh yeah, moving away from shitty anime for a second, did anyone else bother to watch Otona Joshi no Anime Time?

Given that we're all bros who like nun punching and robots, I'm kind of curious to read some of your opinions about it.

By the way, the ratings I posted above weren't the newest figures, I just popped them up there because Scat Dance was on it.

Here's the newest one I know of:

I wonder at what point the idea of having a prestige anime block becomes untenable, since none of these shows seem to be able to sell on disc either. Or maybe they end up cancelling the slice of life half of the block. :(

And the Asians look white, so it's just one homogenous paradise!
Yep! Asians might as well be white anyway!

I did and it was pretty good. There isn't really all that much to say about it. It was a pretty good short story with really nice production values. I guess it's pretty rare to have a story like that in anime although the story itself wasn't particularly unique.

Yikes now I'm getting worried that the noitaminA slot will die. I think Usagi Drop will do well for them next season though unless No. 6 ends up so shitty and brings it them both down.

Yeah, I think I'm just wondering how it would go over in the "fanbase" since it's Desperate Housewives in anime form but with lots of mono no aware.

It's just too bad that we can't get more of that stuff. There is no josei anime audience in Japan, I presume.

Maybe for season 2 they'll introduce a character from a country that isn't 90+% white/Asian.

Well AnoHana was no. 1 on anime BRs on Amazon.co.jp last time I checked so maybe it will actually sell well in the end.

Well top 10 anime you don't want to miss on some Japanese site.
http://anime.biglobe.ne.jp/userranking/title/4083/
1. K-ON!

2. Angel Beats!

3. Bakemonogatari

4. To Aru Kagaku no Railgun

5. Gintama

6. Toradora!

7. To Aru Majutsu no Index

8. Haruhi

9. Durarara!!

10. Evangelion

Well I've seen Bakemonogatari, ToraDora!, Index, Haruhi, Durarara!!, and Evangelion. Don't really think I'd want to see the rest, but I'll be watching K-ON! anyways due to Extollere.

Naw, as much as I hate myself for knowing this, the three new characters are almost certainly white/Asian.

I just take S2 as an inevitability at this point.

We'll see... I have no idea what the correlation is between Amazon sales and actual sales though.

I guess I need to watch Drrrrrrrr! sometime.

Deadman Wonderland 2

Seems like there was some more censorship with the Dog Race, but I'm not positive since I only read the first chapter of the manga. Either way, good episode. I love Shiro.

Also, the OP was weird.

Doesn't matter now anyways since all the top spots are taken up by Madoka when I checked yesterday.

I don't suppose if anyone here knows how long some of these Spring shows are?

Ano Hana

Tiger & Bunny

Nichijou

I found out from anime news networks (not sure if this is reliable information) the number of episodes for the following:

Hanasaku Iroha: 26 episodes (someone in the thread did say it was a 2 season show as well)

Denpa Onna: 12 episodes

Other than Kaiji, this is the only anime I'm watching. Never read the manga, so don't know how the story progresses, but so far it seems like a typical shonen anime. And the main character seems quite likable. While I'm at it, gotta say I love the ending song. K-pop GAF may be interested.

Yeah, should have been a 13-episode series, unless the series is a slowburner lol, and it's get magically much better in the latter half of the series!

That was the first anime Ive ever completed on disc (OHSHC/Noein via iTunes), so it holds a special place in my heart. I wish they would remake those final episodes again though.

Thanks for the heads up. I will definitely check out all the movies after I've watched the original TV series.

From wiki:

Movies

Death and Rebirth (March 1997)
The End of Evangelion (July 1997)
Rebuild of Evangelion (1.0: September 2007, 2.0: June 2009, 3/4: TBA)

Edit: I take it this is the DVD release for the original Anime series?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000767QTA/

Looks like it's only available in R1 format so I better find a region free DVD player.

The way I've always described it:

Almost all the best elements of modern anime and nearly all the worst elements of modern anime can be directly attributed to Evangelion.

Death and Rebirth is just a pseudo-compilation of the series and not really needed.

I'd argue EoE is not needed since it's pablum dressed as fanservice masquerading as plot. But then again, I didn't wait 10 years or whatever for that movie to come out.

You can pretty much skip Death and Rebirth since it's mostly recaps with a small amount of new content. The rest you're clear to go through.

I'm probably one of the few people here who went through the entire thing in one run though, so I didn't have the "benefit" of desperately anticipating the movie or whatever.

I don't think anyone is going to change my mind that the movie ruins the subtlety of the TV ending.

Risette

A Good Citizen
If you watch the directors cuts of 21-24 you can safely skip Death, as those episodes have the new footage that was contained in Death.

Rebirth is just the first half of End of Evangelion.

I think you're right, but I still think End of Evangelion is a masterpiece. A completely unnecessary masterpiece, but still a masterpiece.

I did the same thing a long ass time ago and I thought it was great! I didn't have to desperately anticipate anything.
